Stay Away - This Place is a Disaster 1 - Unsafe, Unsanitary, Unacceptable Our experience at this property was unacceptable from start to finish. The air conditioning unit was broken and releasing so much moisture that the tile floor became dangerously slippery. The shower had no running water, the sink was clogged, and the toilet was in an unsanitary state. The bed was so uncomfortable, you could feel the mattress springs on your back. The toiletries provided were in faded, previously used bottles that were only half full. Dinner service was appalling -- food trays were more than half empty and not replenished, and what was available looked unfit for serving. We had booked for five nights but checked out after only one. When we attempted to order room service, we were told there was no food available at all. This hotel is horrible. I paid $500 for three days. It was all inclusive, but the food was so disgusting that we ate elsewhere. The bed was like a brick so hard and uncomfortable. The pillows were awful. The staff was rude and really seem unhappy. the floor is sticky in our room. The shower is gross with mold and the water pressure is horrible. I don't give a lot of 1-star reviews, but this place is terrible and sad. There are much nicer resorts, and lots of hotels in town where you're not trapped. The food is abysmal. I don't need obscene amounts of it, I'd just like a plate of good food for a meal. For breakfast i realized there's plain yogurt and fruit, and a terrible "smoothie" that's too icy and chunky on top, and liquid most of the way down. The hot food is meh at best. The only thing remotely Mexican was the refried beans they have at every meal. They'll bring you food, but the fries sitting in front of my are only partially cooked. The max and cheese looks fine but tastes like nothing. The juices are canned and don't taste like much except sugar. The one espresso machine was down this morning. I've tried to see if I can leave a few days early. One day the computer was broken so they couldn't look at my reservation and the applicable policies. The next day the one guy who could explain the policy was gone for the day. They won't let you go. They have a 24-month cancellation policy--see that and stay far, far away. Oh, and when it rained water started coming in under the balcony door, or maybe through the opening in the sliding doors--they wouldn't fully close and certainly wouldn't lock, which also struck me as a safety concern, even in a high floor, because someone could climb from one balcony to the next. The staff is trying really hard, but it there aren't enough of them and corners get cut. The place is pretty clean, but only through their physical efforts. They can't do much about the mildew, which made me sneeze a lot and wake up each morning feeling sick (my stuffiness and swollen-feeling throat cleared up after being out of the room for a few hours). read more

15 years ago we brought the family here for a week and weren't impressed. Looked like they did some upgrades and the price was reasonable so we booked. No in room bar, refrigerator and the bed is like sleeping on the floor. Cheap booze creates a huge hangover and this place provides that. No premium choice here. The room service is a set choice of next to nothing. WhatsApp is the preferred method of communicating but no one answers the call. Restaurant has very limited options for dinner and the buffet is the unfortunate better option. Usually the north end of the island is wonderful but this is not the best option! Our suggestion is to look elsewhere for an all inclusive resort that provides better options for the price. This place is deceiving as it looks great but the only thing great is the limited options and the hangover from the cheap booze being served. read more

Trip advisor I was assigned to a room, that clearly hadn't been used in a very long time, and I found out it's because the hotel knew it had horrific pumping issues. The water came out black and brown, and I had to wait until 3:30 the next day to get a new room. The hotel manger didn't even try to talk to me, and not one single accommodation for my unconvinced was made. I asked the front desk for bottle water. They said I had to go wait in my room for house keeping to bring it. I'll never ever book at this hotel, and I'll certainly be writing a review, that will have pictures of the black water coming out of the sink and shower. My stay is completely unacceptable, and had it not been for a major holiday weekend, I would have left, but there was no other hotels to go to. This is by far the worst way to bring in the new year. The view was beautiful from our balcony. Our room must have been on the old section. We walked in and the room had a odor. We opened the door to let it air out and it was better. We ordered 2 beds and got a king. The room was very old and run down. Needs lots of updating. We never sat on the couch that is how it looked. We did have a TV. No coffee pot ( but that was ok with us ). The bathroom was a big room and the shower reminded me of gym shower or a camp. Not sure. We didn't have any water pressure and never used cold water because the water never got HOT. The towels reminded us of the towels you get in hotels to stand on. We never asked to be moved didn't want to lose our view. Then in order to get reservations at the only restaurant they have you had to be downstairs by 7:45 and get in line. When you eat in the restaurant you will be in there for hours. Don't have plans after. The food was good at the restaurant. The food at the buffet didn't look good most of us didn't eat it we ordered Quesadillas and nachos to eat. The breakfast ( no reservations needed) in the restaurant was great it was nice to sit and enjoy the view and coffee. The snorkeling was great here. Lots to see. Very rocky. Pros- 1. Views- has the prettiest section of beach. The water in front of Cozumeleno was the clearest & lightest blue out of surrounding areas 2. Price was inexpensive in comparison to other resorts Cons- 1. FOOD- incredibly bland, poor options, and not safe if you have any food allergies or sensitivities. I have celiac disease, which means I cannot eat gluten. I spoke with people before booking and was assured any allergies could be accommodated. There is a buffet and a restaurant. To book the restaurant, you need to go to the front desk the morning of your desired reservation and see if they have any availabilities. We weren't able to get a reservation during our stay. So we were stuck at the buffet. There was a surprising lack of fresh fruit and mexican food. things weren't labeled. i saw a bird walking in a tray of salad that was then placed out for people to eat. at the grill, the tacos with pork were the best, however they have flour and corn tortillas and grill both in the same section. so cross contamination got me sick more than once. also, the people working at the buffet didn't understand when i tried to ask them about ingredients or tell them i couldn't eat gluten, wheat, etc. 2. Amenities gym was tiny, classes were a joke (half the time they didn't even show up to teach the class), library and game room were listed on website as being available, but i couldn't find it and no one working there could point me in the direction of them either. mini golf was alright. it was on concrete and the concrete wasn't level, so it ended up being luck more than anything. there was no live entertainment or themed parties while i was there (claims of such are on their website). there was only 1 hot tub with water in it and it wasn't actually heated. same temp as pool. the indoor pool isn't actually indoors, its outdoors but has a roof (not a big deal, but still not accurate). 3. Least helpful front desk/concierge/staff, etc. - when we checked in basically all we were told was pay this amount and here is your room key. nothing about any of the amenities, such as the gym is there, the hours of the restaurant, if you want access to your safe, you have to pay money and we'll give you a key, etc. we would ask questions throughout our stay multiple times and not get an answer at all. at one point, we wanted to go to the city center (after i had gotten sick from eating food that i was allergic to at the resort) to get some food and asked the concierge to call us a taxi. it took 5 minutes to convince him to give us a phone number to call for ourselves, and then it ended up being the wrong number. when we asked about room service, we were given incorrect information on how to access it (had to scan a QR code on your door and use your cell phone to call. the menu was on the tv, channel 3). also, our sink and shower were running when we got there, which was weird.. 4. Decor- rooms are outdated for sure. bed is so hard. also many parts of the room seemed dirty or falling apart (toilet, lamps, chairs, etc). i would absolutely not ever stay here again! the staff really don't speak/understand english. I understand this is a hotel in mexico, so we should be speaking spanish, but the website said they speak english and spanish, so i was expecting to be able to ask questions and get answers. the staff was often rude to us as well. not helpful and nice, minus a few people. but really, even if i didn't have celiac disease/could eat everything, the food was the biggest disappointment for me. not fresh and seasoned, like i know a lot of mexican food to be! i have 6 pics of the room that for some reason can't be uploaded to yelp. basically stained couch & framed picture, shower head falling out of wall, toilet seat & lid not actually even attached to toilet, etc. read more

I have stayed here twice over the last few years and only for 2 days, I usually spend some time in town at small hotels. The hotel itself is not a bad value considering the beach front location and it is about 3 miles from town. The room are not too nice, the a/c barely works so everything is always damp including your clothes. The beds are like sleeping on plywood! The food at the beach front restaurant is not bad, there is a menu you can also order from. I might be back again next year for a few days. Words of advice, don't take a high maintenance gf or wife there, she will be miserable and complaining the whole time! read more

This is the worst resort on the island the service is terrible. The rooms on the 5 story building were made in 1978 and haven't been touched since. They say they offer room service but when you call they won't answer. The cleaning people will intentionally break your chargers if you leave them plugged in. The food is boarderline inedible. Nothing looks sanitary. The lobby drinks taste like they use salt water. The lady in the gift shop will upcharge you on drink prices. All the "free" sodas are flat. We are on our last day of a week long trip. We stayed here five years ago and in the newer tower and had an okay time for the price. This time all six rooms were in the old part and it was a disappointing experience. Two couples moved after the first night due to the horrible musty smells. Our air wasn't working properly and we called but to no avail. We brought a small personal fan, thank goodness. It is really unfortunate that they haven't reinvested into their rooms. The good, they are huge in the old building (unless you have a corner room-old side). The bad, they are outdated, furniture is broken and looks very weathered. The exterior doors are sketchy and you need to be sure you've got it latched, they do have new keyless entry. Shower heads are corroded. Just some simple updates would help a lot. For the most part the staff does the best they can with what they have to work with. The buffet food is average at best. The one restaurant is not great. Bring your own reusable water bottle, I forgot and they only allow one warm bottle of water per room a day. However they have filtered water with and without fruit available all the time. No refrigerators which we knew and it's a bummer. Coffee was good. Views were beautiful. We won't be back until we see they have had a complete remodel. I gave a 2 because of the employees that work hard everyday to make it as enjoyable as possible. read more

We have been coming here for over 18 years. This resort has not updated anything. The facility is old. The room air conditioning doesn't get the humidity out of the air. I am handicapped explained I need first floor. (I know they have power outages) I won't be able to climb the steps. Our room...second floor. Oh sorry. The food has always been hmmm??? This time.... HORRIBLE!!!! I can stress that enough. Very small choices on their lunch & super buffet, nothing I'd have my dog eat. No bacon, sausage cold, watery scrambled eggs, margarine that tastes like lard, cold waffles. No salt or pepper on tables, napkins are worse than if eating at McDonald! Our room....phone didn't work. Hand dryer blows only cold air! The sad thing is the staff here are very very nice! They have to keep making excuses for poor faculty and lack of resources. Asked for guacamole & chips..... no not today. Ok, how about salsa & chips. They are to busy to make. Maybe later. We "rented" a refrigerator for $10/day. Other resorts that comes with the room. I decided to try El Cozumeleño because I usually visit an all inclusive resort when I cruise to Cozumel. I typically go to Mr Sancho's that caters exclusively to day resort guests. This trip I decided to try something different and my review of El Cozumeleño is mixed. When I first arrived I was greeted with a cocktail and shown great hospitality, but as the day continued the service in the resort was just satisfactory. The food and drinks were included but I found the drinks to be a bit watered down, unlike the great cocktails I received at Mr Sancho's. The food menu for the day was a bit limited on actual Mexican dishes (there were a lot of Americanized dishes available), but the food I did order was extremely fresh and very flavorful. The beach and pool areas were great and not very crowded. My overall opinion is this resort is more suited for people or families visiting for several days or a week, that want a secluded and relaxing stay. This is not a resort to just visit for a day, if you are looking for a day resort I would suggest a resort similar to Mr. Sancho's that caters to day guests. read more

Pluses and minus of El Cozumeleno Beach Resort. Pluses are enough to recommend it - but we did pay for top-of-the-line room so we were very happy with our view, refrigerator, bed. Pluses: 1. Staff - very friendly and attentive. Waiters. Bartenders. Maids. Front desk. Tour guy. All were available and ready to assist. No issues at all. Some speak no English so it helps to know a little - bein, (numbers), hola, si. 2. View. Hotel is right on the ocean and also offers a sunset from our balcony. (Excellent weather and sunsets - which the hotel can't provide - we lucked out). 3. Restaurant food. Excellent. Buffet was meh - Would be better if buffet food was hotter. You can order off the menu where the buffet is, which is pretty good. Breakfast had watery scrambled eggs and cold sausage. 4. Snorkeling. Right off the beach there. You can rent snorkel-set on property (or tanks for scuba or jet ski). Snorkel set is $15/day and you don't have to take a day trip anywhere. Four types of fish - may not sound like much, but it made us happy. Turquoise water; great water temp; lovely guests. (Taking a trip could be a 10-hour day away from the hotel; on a bus; waiting around; getting to the snorkel place, etc. vs just snorkel from the hotel.) 5. Room - we enjoyed our room, but others complained, and some beds were hard. 6. Private beach - no one comes to sell you anything on the beach 7. Close to downtown by taxi - which are always available right at the hotel - staff assist you. Maybe five-minute drive to downtown and about 10 minutes to airport. $25 or so. 8. Alcohol - it was decent. Maybe not high end, but definitely not low end. One of us was fine with the red wine - but one of us had to upgrade for more money. 9. Free hotel internet was available on your cell phone. Negatives: 1. Residents 'reserve' their beach chairs, some do so at 1 a.m. for the next day - with towels and a personal item like a sandal or water bottle. If you didn't and you go down at 10 a.m., there is nowhere to sit, even though all the beach chairs are empty - they reserve then go away for five, six, or seven hours. No staff remove the towels - other hotels remove towels; no reserving is possible. If that matters to you, do not use this hotel. 2. No beach umbrellas. The sun beats down on you (which is nice until you are sunburned). There about 10 'umbrella' tables but they too are taken/reserved by 7 a.m. (Even when no one is sitting there.) 3. TV - this could be a positive because there were options. But nothing was live. There were fine movies (FX, USA channels) and CNN features, but no live news, etc. 4. Check-in took forever. It would work better if they gave people the form to fill out while in line. It would then go much faster. They usually bring you a cocktail which you wait in line. 30-to-45-minute wait. 5. Worst - absolutely no orientation. You either go to the internet to figure what you can about the hotel or you ask guests. If you don't ask, you will know nothing about amenities. Where to get snorkel gear, where to get a blue beach towel, how to reserve a restaurant spot, etc. They tell you nothing at check in except where the elevators are. A brochure is needed desperately. 6. Pool water was very cold. Sea water was chilly, but you get used to it. read more

I visited El Cozumeleno right before the US shut down the border between Mexico and the US. While many advised to cancel our trip, there was no way I was going to allow fear to interrupt a much needed vacay. I give this an overall 3 mainly due to the age and overall esthetic of the rooms and common areas. While the exterior does have a beachy Mexican vibe, the rooms are overdue for some updating. With this said the beds are extremely hard and very uncomfortable. The sheets, blankets and towels were coarse. The room itself was a 1980's flash back with the greens and terracotta coloring throughout. The rooms do include a safe to stash valuables. Housekeepers come by daily to refresh the room but you do have the option to place a do not disturb sign if you do not want them in the room. Just note everything is old a rusted from toilets, showers and sinks. You wi definitely want to re clean yourself before using anything. As far as amenities, they have a place to get a massage for an additional cost. There is a kids play area, mini put put golf course and 2 large pool areas. The pools are nice and include a swim up bar. Due to Covid19 these were not open. Fact is most areas were closed due to Covid. The dining area initially had the buffet set up but after our 1st day everything was a la carte, understandably so due to a low number of patrons. The food was mediocre Mexican food or I'd say not at all Mexican. I do understand they are looking to accommodate the pallets of a variety of people so I was able to overlook this. What I can not overlook is the lack of service in the dining halls (both of them). There were never more than 10/20 people in the room and the fact that we would have to ask for water, tea, silverware etc multiple times and eventually have to get up to get up ourselves is simply inexcusable. I could skip mentioning this if it happened once, but nah. It happened EVERY single time we went to eat. While all inclusive. You may be better waiting at the bar to get the drink yourself because you will be done with your meal before it gets to you. Again, there were very low numbers of patrons and you could see staff members standing around, so there is simply no excuse. My though is, if the onset of a global pandemic is going to hit your city hard where you have to shut everything down meaning no income, why would you not make sure to provide the best of the best service to the guests you have to ensure they return. Many people there including us had to reschedule flights out before the shut down and wanted to thoroughly enjoy ourselves before going on lock down. The really missed an opportunity here. I will say the front desk staff always amazing, warm and friendly. They are the reason I am not giving this 1 stars. They are the saving grace here. Tip- before booking any excursions with the hotel, take a bit to look for additional pricing. We took a Jeep tour in which we were ripped off for. We could have rented the Jeep ourself and used the map to navigate the island. Everyplace we were taken to was free. Side note- something made me sick when I arrived home. We just wanted a quick getaway for a minimoon since we aren't able to take a full 7-10 days off for our honeymoon. My husband wanted to try snorkeling and Cozumel is well known for diving and snorkeling and we found affordable accommodations. However, we learned quickly that its true, you get what you pay for and the website is deceiving as the photos are from a long time ago and the beach has disappeared and the property has not been maintained specifically, the rooms. Site states they have a 24 hr shuttle to and from airport - another lie - you have to purchase tickets at airport to ride shuttle to hotel $16 for two and from hotel to airport you have to pay a cab 200 pesos for two people (approximately $12) Old, smelly, worn out and disgusting furniture in the rooms. Bed is lumpy, uncomfortable with matching lumpy pillows. It was all I could do to sleep there. Never sat on any of the other stained/worn out chairs or sofa in room. Massive smell of mold and mildew. Rooms stay moist. AC is super noisy and the return leaks, leaked onto our floor from bathroom to glass slider door at opposite side of room. Asked front desk for hand towels, they were never delivered. We didn't have maid service for our four days, we just swapped towels and asked for extra of what we ran out of. 1 bottle of water per room per day...no fridge in the room unless you want to pay for it. We didn't have daily maid service because we heard of a lot of theft in Cozumel and I'm glad we kept the do not disturb sign on - still worried with safe door and hotel door not working properly... Shower door doesn't open/close properly Shower facuxet doesn't work properly and head sprays all directions of water everywhere Hotel room door doesn't shut properly have to make sure completely shut or it will hang open, no self closing. (The hinges are on the OUTSIDE)!!! Wut? Safe door lock was broken we had to tighten ourselves to make safe work/lock. Nice welcome snack of chocolate covered strawberries. The person delivering it never knocked on our door, just used a key and walked right in!!!! Right in!!! I was walking toward the bathroom when it happened - I jumped outta my skin! She ran away, no apologies but I'm sure I scared her as much as she did me!!! Can hear neighbors so loudly they sound like they're in our room. No WiFi in the rooms - only lobby! Miniature golf, Where? Workout room, where? Events, where? Dining, you have to make a reservation - we never could get dinner before 8:00pm-8:30pm unless we wanted 5:00pm or 5:30pm. Yet, tables never full in dunning room... Food was ok. Staff was great. Cocktails, horrible and watered down liquor. Stick to beer or wine! Staff very accommodating and attentive. Quick and easy checkin to your nightmare. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Highly disappointed. Needs some serious updating!! For an all-inclusive resort, it's definitely very poor. The accommodations are pretty low. There are only 3 places to eat: one sit-down restaurant, which requires reservations for dinner, a buffet and a snack bar. There are only 3 bars: a swim-up bar, which is open very limited hours during the afternoon, a bar at the snack bar and the lobby bar, which is the only one that's open past 10pm. The rooms are spacious, yet out-dated. The decor is lacking. There's nothing on the walls except one framed paper picture of some fish. The bedspreads are the same color scheme as the picture, which seems to be straight out of the 70s. There is one lamp, with no lamp shade. Any other amenities are lacking. There is no alarm clock, no coffee pot, no mini fridge, etc. The bathroom looks like a locker room. Again, it's spacious but needs updating. The drop ceiling over the shower was even filled with moldy ceiling tiles. Your room key is, literally, a metal key on a lanyard. Ever hear of keycards??!! The resort has free WiFi. However, it only works in the lobby, and the service is spotty, at best. They told us, "We don't have WiFi in the rooms yet." There is no night life here. The resort basically shuts down at 10pm. There is no theater with nightly entertainment, no sports bar, no dance club nor any late night food options. (Every other all-inclusive resort provides these perks.) It's got a nice beach, and the area is great for snorkeling. Also, the property is small enough where you don't have to walk a mile to grab breakfast. If you like going to bed early, and don't want any night life, then I would recommend this place. If you're like me, and prefer more restaurants, more bars and more night life, then this resort is not ideal. read more

We had a great view, but the room was so hot! They suggested the A/C be between 73-77 degrees. I put it on 60 and it was still hot. I asked for a fan and was told they don't have any. Would have been cooler sleeping outside. The breakfast and lunch buffet was the same every day, and we had to special order a hamburger for dinner just so I could eat something other than mashed potatoes. We were on the 8th floor and just to get ice, we had to get it from the bar on the 1st floor. Javier was our waiter, and he was great. He made sure we had everything we needed. I don't know why the reviews on yelp are so poor!? I had an amazing time at this resort the past 3 nights. Sure, the wifi is not great, and the food isn't 5 star.. But for the budget price, you get a clean, spacious, OCEAN view room, a beach with snorkeling, and all inclusive food & drink! For the price, this place is a steal. And I'm usually very picky about staying at nicer places, and I was completely satisfied at El Cozumeleno. Pros: - Fantastic service. Everyone from front desk, to bell boy, to wait staff, to bartenders, we're so friendly and helpful. - Beach! Not many Cozumel resorts have a beach, since there are a lot of steep rocks around the coast. The beach has lots of fish and good snorkeling. - not overcrowded! There was always empty beach chairs or pool side lounge chairs. I loved not having to fight for space! - plenty of activities! Beach games like corn hole bags, ladder golf, also billiards, ping pong, a DJ with poolside music. Even movie theaters in pool deck later at night! Jet ski rentals on property, also other water activities. - pool! 2 pools, and one was very much larger than I expected. There's also a covered pool area that's always shaded. It's only 10 mins from the airport, 10 min taxi from downtown with all the shops and restaurants. But far enough away to relax from the cruise ship madness. Cons: - wifi only in lobby, not in rooms. (But it's free!) - restaurants and lobby tend to get a bit hot, could turn up the AC a bit. - buffet food is mediocre. Lots of variety, but average taste. But both restaurants have made to order menu items that are a bit better. Still, not bad for the bargain price of this all-inclusive resort. - no scuba dive shop on site, but there's one walking distance next door at Playa Azul resort. Easy! - pillows were pretty hard! But the bed was comfortable with the egg crates. Overall, fantastic experience at El Cozumeleno. Sure it's not a 5-star resort and you can tell, but it's really a steal of a deal for the great price. I paid $380 for 3 nights, for 2 people. That's less than $65 a night per person, for all inclusive! Amazing. Thank you to the staff for such a great vacation! Beautiful architecture from the outside, but then the rooms were gross and very outdated. The food was awful from the restaurant inside, but the outdoor buffet food was alright. Airport shuttle, It showed as one of their amenities so I assumed it was included. But not. Oh well, it was US$9pp for a less than 10 min ride. (If you bought a package deal, it's included. I guess) WiFi is free but really only on the first floor inside the building. Should say "Lobby only." Sprint connection didn't get any signal at all any where. (ATnT was ok) I guess we just had to learn to relax away from our mobile devices for awhile. We had a Deluxe room. Super roomy and an extra sofa bed and comes with a fully filled fridge. But only 2 fake beer. Just ask for more or get it at d bar. (Had to really ask for more supplies) Room was very clean! Balcony top floor beats anything else but also we might wanna try the first floor(Garden View) in front of the pool next time. Might be noisy but will get WiFi and just walk to the pool. Two ladies we met had the room and loved it! Shower pressure is weak but normal of Yucatán. AC super good! Coffee maker tricky. Amenity good. Bed n pillow ok. I carry an extension cord when travel and came handy. Not many outlets in the room. Property was very clean every where. La Veranda, formal restaurant. Make a reservation for dinner early. Dress code. Dinner menu change every 1 or 2 days. Different desserts everyday! We had stake everyday and was cooked perfect every time. No need for reservation for breakfast, fruit and cereal bar. Mexican and American menu. Service good. We tipped here. Pool bar great but cocktails are weird. Just ask them how u want it. They constantly come serve you anywhere at the pool. Midday, they have burgers, hotdogs, tacos made to order by the pool. They were good! Nachos and guacamole too. Bicycle rental in maintenance, nothing available. (Boo) Water equipment rental is only from 10-4. Free for 1hr with ID. So last call is 3pm. No "Hotel info at a glance" no where! Channel 4 and 5 have info and room service menu but didn't look like updated. Activities everyday so check at the activity desk outside in the morning. The schedule on TV at the lobby didn't say Yoga on Wednesday but they actually had it at 9:30. I missed it. Schedule said Movie night on Wednesday, but they didn't have it. U have to ask about everything. Aqua exercise was good. Stretch class good! Activity staff, Angel did everything! From snorkeling, Yoga to bracelet making! Cool guy. Naomi and Sebastian were good as well. Snorkeling rental didn't fit. (Mask or flippers) They just give you whatever they have so I just had to do without flippers. I can swim so it's ok. But don't recommend kids or ppl scared of water. Mexican dance and mariachi music show was excellent. I bought a souvenir from a kiosk by the pool. You can paint it yourself and make an original figurine or accessories. No sign or advertisement, so can be easily missed. Shame. I got my own souvenir, and love it. Service over all was great. They are polite and willing to help. Made friends with a few of them. They take a good care of you. When we checked out we asked how we can take a ferry then bus to the main land side, but the hotel ppl just told us to go to the ferry station. Not much info. We googled it but when we got there, there were 3 different companies and prices. It was a little confusing. Then we had to take a cab to the bus terminal. Again we had to ask. You would think the hotel ppl should be able to explain better to you. But oh well that's just a part of journey I guess. read more

This is a basic hotel that will provide you with what you need and is a no frills place. I stayed with the all inclusive option. The workers speak and understand English for the most part. They were also very helpful with any questions that I had. The room was relatively large and the ones facing the ocean is breathtaking simply because of the turquoise water and location. The door uses an old fashion metal key. The furniture and decoration in the room appeared to be older and somewhat outdated. The bathroom was relatively big and reminded me of a school's bathroom. The bathroom towels were inconsistent. On some days, I received nice thick towels; on other days, I received worn and thin towels. The AC unit was somewhat loud, depending on the setting. The safe box is a tad small and will not fit a laptop. There was only one unconditioned, small elevator on main entrance side of the hotel, which can get annoying. During my stay, I was able to sleep relatively well and did not hear much noise from the other rooms. I also enjoyed a few available amenities, such as the pool, bike riding, miniature golf, ping pong, and billiards. The food was inconsistent and ranged from average to a little above average. We stayed here at Christmas with our 4 kids ages 12-19. The rooms are quite big and very clean. The hotel does need some updating but it was perfectly fine. The beach at this hotel is great for swimming and snorkeling. The other hotels nearby seem to have way too much seaweed and we never saw anyone using those beaches. There are two restaurants - a buffet (there are two sides to this: inside the restaurant and then if you walk all the way to the back, there is more food in the pool area) and a sit-down one which is more formal. Our kids loved the buffet restaurant and were here every chance they could get. Our son ended up with tonsillitis while we were there and the staff at the buffet restaurant were wonderful in stocking me up with ice cream for him even though they did not serve ice cream at the buffet restaurant. Bring your own snorkel equipment from home or rent for free at the hotel. We went to almost every store to find snorkel equipment and the stores that actually sell them charge $50++ US for a cheap set that would cost $10 at Walmart The swim up pool bar only serves beer. Wifi only in the lobby. There is also a big tv in the lobby where a lot of people gather to watch sports etc. We felt completely safe here at this hotel and everywhere we went on the island. read more

This place is ok. We had a great time with my Family since we just wanted a place to rest. If you are Looking for a small , quiet, and very private hotel this is the place. I will not recommend if you are planning to stay for a week or longer. You will get tired of the food and since the hotel is small you will get bored. Overall this place is ok if you looking to stay less than a week . We stayed 4 days and 3 nights and that was all for us. Cons: food, the hotel needs upgrades, short on staff, no wifi only in lobby, if people talk on the hallways you can hear them from your room( anoying), no fridge in room or coffe maker, water you have to pay for it, safe box in room needs upgrade you have to use a regular key to use it. :/ Pros: small beach but beautiful, friendly staff, quiet place, family friendly place, close to downtown cozumel. read more

We ejoyed our stay immensely. The key is to recognize that you are not at a 5 star resort, and you most definitely did not pay for a 5 star resort, so for goodness sakes do not expect everything to be on a 5 star level. We have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts and this was a GREAT deal for the price we paid (4nights, 2 people, $650 after tax the next cheapest place was 1,150 before tax so... ) I was very happy with our experience (re-read 2nd sentance) The rooms- Spacious and very clean, hot water in showers. Blow dryer provided. our bed was fine, beds seems to be awful at a lot of AI properties and this bed was actually one of the softer beds. The pillows were something to be desired but again....re-read 2nd sentance. Food- This is a smaller resort and has only 1 a la carte restaurant. These are the ones where you will make a reservation and get dressed up. Its part of the experience. However you only need to make the reservation for dinner it is also opened for lunch and breakfast, no reservation needed. When you check in they tell you all of this but your mind is already on the beach, most likely you will forget. Write it down. I wished i had. They should provide the info on a welcone sheet, but they are an eco-friendly resort ( which is why you get only 1bottle of water for rooms( buy water from Mega) , and no cans ect are given out) Side-Note: we caught on that the "special" of the night in the restaurant was served in the buffet. Also lunch is great, they have a buffet but also a menu you could order from and the food was great. Lunch was my fave meal here. They do not offer the menu for dinner in the buffet area, only lunch. Service- AMAZING. The staff make this place amazing. Shout out to Angel our favorite server. Also to William and Ricky they are the professional photographers, but they should be doing activities also because they had soooo much energy!! It was contagious. They were so amazing and hilarious! Nestor helped us book our snorkeling tour and was patient in showing us all of our options and honest opinions about which were worth the money and which tours were not. The staff here go out of their way to help out. If you want something they will try their best to make it happen. The staff always gave 5 star service. Also the snorkeling is great on the beach at the hotel. They lend you gear for 1 hour for free, $5 for the 2nd hour and $10 for the whole day. When we went into town we purchased from Mega(similar to wal-mart) and purchased our own. It's worth it if you want to do it more than once and time will fly by! That 1 hour is nothing when you are looking at the beautiful under water activity. We would stay here again....and again. read more

El Cozumeleno was the worst resort I have ever stepped foot into. We went with a group of friends and after inspecting our 4 rooms we all decided we wanted to find somewhere else to stay. Every room we got was gross. Everything at the resort is falling apart from the lobby celling, bathroom sink, "gym," patio chairs, mattresses and even the decorative paintings on the wall was stained from water damage. The hot water did work in the shower. The mattress bedding was stained and scary to just sit on. Believe me I could go on and on, and I was only there for a few hours. We were gone about three hours after we had checked in. We then found ourselves on the Cozumel island with no where to sleep for the following 5 nights. Thankfully we were blessed with a beautiful/affordable Airbnb on the south end of the island. After talking to the manager he was calm (we were not) and understanding, but still hesitant to refund all of our money. I disputed the charge through my bank and eventually got all my money back. Please save yourself the misery of dealing with this resort. read more

Stayed here with my family for a few nights and wasn't completely impressed. At the same time, you get what you pay for! For the price of our stay here I guess you can't expect anything more. The resort itself was relatively small compared to those in Cancun, but it had a decent-sized pool and great access to the beach. The water on our side of the beach was much clearer than the water at the resort next door (which we also considered staying at). What was great about this resort was being able to snorkel in the clear blue waters right in front of the hotel. The water is very calm here and there are so many amazing sea creatures you can swim with! As for the staff, everyone was very friendly and hospitable. My main complaint would be the food - be sure to eat at the buffet outside! Not only is there a great view of the ocean, but the food is soooo much better than what's served inside the sit-down restaurant. That restaurant is supposed to be a little fancier (I think they were trying to make it like a fine-dining Italian restaurant), but the food was sadly a disappointment. You'll probably see that's why the outside restaurant is much more crowded for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner. Regardless, you get what you pay for and you definitely don't pay for a five-star resort so you can't expect it to serve five-star quality meals. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and enjoyed our time visiting Cozumel. I'd recommend renting a car through hotel for the day to explore the more private white sand beaches around the island! read more

They need to stop people saving beach chairs overnight...unfair! Pools were nice but a lttle cold. Excellent Spa....had an awesome massage by Angelica!
