    Nespresso bar unlimited coffee!

Paradisus is accurately named so - what a beautiful place to spend a vacation! Upon arrival, we were so overwhelmed and there were so many cool things we wanted to see so we were worried we wouldn't get to it all! We had about 4 full days there though and saw most of what we wanted to see. I think one extra day would've been great though since we wanted to check out the water park again and maybe try another restaurant. If you're visiting without kids, you'll also be able to visit the adult only side with even more options available to you for restaurants, clubs/bars and pools. The staff all across the resort were amazing. There was no shortage of them and always easy to find somebody. Many of their services and information can be found on the Meliá app. It's not the best app, kinda slow and not very up to date but it gets the job done if you need to order room service, find a restaurant, or order amenities to your room. WiFi is across the resort and I never had issues with it being spotty during our visit (until you walk out to the beach). The actual rooms are beautiful even if you have the basic one. Ours had a pool view so we woke up to a great view every morning. Ours was on the very east side of the property so it was a nice walk through the pool area to get to all the restaurants. We were closest to the water park also. I really liked that their hotel room access card is actually a bracelet so you don't have to worry about pulling a card out to get in/out of your room or have to carry a card around and worry about it when swimming. Food was pretty good but not the BEST - you have to remember it's all inclusive so portions will be small and buffet quality isn't always up to par, but it was all still edible and delicious and you can totally get your money's worth. One of my favorite parts was the Nespresso bar located near the lobby and restaurants. We got iced lattes every day and it was the best! They have plenty of dinner spots but you have to make sure you make reservations ahead of time with the reservation desk located near Capella. It doesn't allow you to make reservations on the app for some reason. Depending on the restaurant, some are a la carte and some are family style with a prix fixe menu. The portions can be small even with family style so you might find yourselves at the buffet after like we did. Many of them are resort casual dress code but some are formal so make sure you have nice clothes packed. My favorite restaurants were Agua Marina and Bana. I really enjoyed the fish tacos at the Sunrise Grill too, it was the perfect light lunch meal to enjoy at the pool and they even have a swim up bar to order drinks. Room service is also available 24/7 but will cost $5 starting on your 3rd room service request. Portions are small here too depending on what you pick but the food isn't terrible. It's just a nice option to have if you can't leave the room, like us while our son was sleeping. There are tons of amenities here, more than we could even use! They have a kids daycare area where you can leave any age children starting at 1 year old. We didn't use it but it looked like a great size kid-safe play zone and they even have a schedule of kids activities available. There are also portrait sessions available and the only cost is if you want to purchase any photos. We ended up picking a few but they came out great considering it's a short 20-min session, and they know all the good spots! I thought it was so smart of them to have this service because families often want some kind of memory from vacations and it's a great chance to get photos taken for you without having to worry about taking them yourself. There are also other things like a spa, various classes, gym, and planned activities throughout the resort like water zumba or silent disco parties. There is also no shortage of places to cool down too. You'll never find it difficult to find a place to hang out and lounge. It gets warm as soon as you wake up and stays humid through the evening so you could swim any time of day comfortably! The pool area is great and you can be in a kids area or a quieter side pool all in the same central zone. The adult pools are on the other of the resort too. The water park was fun, for all ages. One side is for small kids, and there is also a main area with large water slides and a water play structure. Just like the pool area, there are tons of cabanas and lounging areas along with a full bar. This was our first visit to an all inclusive resort and it did not disappoint. It's a great way to have a nice vacation if you want to stay on the resort and not have to plan any activities outside the resort (although those are available too!). I think the pricing is a great deal too, because elsewhere even if you had a cheaper hotel you could easily spend just as much on food and activities. I'd recommend it equally for both families and adults looking for a relaxing time!

We been going to all inclusive resorts since we had kids and understood it's time to travel differently than what we are used to. We started when my youngest was 8 months and it was hard in the beginning. Until it turned out to a family tradition. We go off season for my birthday. Not during winter or spring breaks. We went with big groups, extended family, grandparents and alone. We also try a new resort every time. This is one of the worst ones I think. Best features: the concierge and staff treat kids like royalty. No frowns or faces just joy seeing them. Concierge came daily to make kiddos fun balloons and give them treats like shirts, hats and so on. They have service for kids camps if for hours or days called kidsdom. We never used that. Water park for kids inside the hotel with warmed pool.cause well when we came, it was winter in Mexico. For us it's just low grade sunny days comparing to snowing back home. Every night at 8pm, there are shows. Kid friendly. One of the best restaurants is bana family. They have sushi and main dishes and cater for allergies as best they can. Besides that... we got the swim up pool and nikte service that was about $900 more. We never used the pool (it was freezing) and our room only got sun when it was around 3pm. So it kinda rendered the pool upgrade useless. We didn't use the nikte pool cause we were at the water park pool all day long. It also grated access to lunch box restaurant that is open from 11am to 4pm. Not amazing. I wouldn't recommend that extra service. we usually go to places that have high recommended food cause that's our priority in resorts. Good food. Most of the restaurants here were very mediocre. Not sure how they got the high reviews. It's a nice yet expensive resort. I personally don't think it's worth the money they charge. We've been to more affordable ones that had better food and better activities. This one for the price and what you get for it is at 2-3. Mexico excarat being top at 5 stars. Good pointers: spacious wide rooms with big bathrooms and amazing water flow in the shower. Downside, mediocre food, not a big veriaty if activities with kids if you want to do something extra. And... between 4 to 6pm only one bar or taqueria is open for food. Odd

Definitely not my favorite all-inclusive experience. 1) Food was great! When you could get in.... The restaurants all kept very weird hours, and nothing but the snack bar was open from 11am-12pm (prime lunch time for me) 2) Getting a restaurant reservation was difficult. This wasn't even peak season, and it seemed like everywhere was full for any time. We had a bigger group, so we even offered to split into two tables of 4-5 people. That didn't work for them either. 3) The resort was huge and very spread out. We weren't sure where our bracelet level of access could allow us to go, so we frequently were asked to relocate, even on the beach. 4) The was a $5 charge every time you requested room service food or beverage (I've never encountered this at any other all-inclusive resort) 5) There were no hot tubs anywhere!!! (Technically one in the children's water park which closed at 5pm and one in the spa, but we never got to have a warm evening hot tub dip which I always look forward to on vacation) 6) Room service cleaning crew did an excellent job multiple times a day, but I didn't appreciate them putting my things into other people's suitcases and vice versa. Overall, I would 100% choose a different all-inclusive experience the next time I'm going to Playa Del Carmen. Other than the quality of food being pretty good at the buffet (couldn't get a reservation anywhere else really), this resort didn't leave much reason for me to return.

Best family friendly resort ever!!!! We have came two years in a row & will likely be back next year! Everything from the room, amenities, food to the staff are amazing!! Alan by the pool was my fav! He remembered my sons name & our favorite song Our chef at Bana was also great but I can't remember his name. We ran into a few issues here & there but nothing crazy. The reason I took a star off is a long story but basically we were lied to about the price of something & we were stuck paying the bill Everything else was great. The water park is our fav because the water is heated but they don't serve liquor over there (you can go get it yourself & take it over there).

This was my first time ever going to México as well as going to an all inclusive resort. Arriving here is a 30 minutes drive from the airport of Cancún. Let me remind you that this whole state of Quintana Roo is a jungle therefore the climate is humid. Once arrival, you are greeted by bellboys and staff, waiting to help you feel accommodated and relaxed. Check in was easy and I was ready to eat. I had taken a red eye flight and was hungry! I went directly to the other resort for adults only to have breakfast since the family side of the resort was busy. And let me say that the food was not disappointing. After eating, wanted to explore the resort, check out my "home" for the next few days, and was excited to know that there was a beach a walk down the beautiful resort. Service was amazing! I was always greeted, had conversation with workers and wanted to interact with them. Everyone was great as well since I did have an emergency situation in my room and medical staff was fast and informative. As my days counted down to my departure, I took advantage of all the shows, performances, events and clubs inside the resort. This resort has it all for both family and adults, I highly suggest you bringing your family or yourself and enjoying the Mexican riviera.

We are loving our stay but the seaweed situation on the beach is a nightmare. They are cleaning it up but they are overwhelmed. If hanging on the beach is important to you Playa De Carmen is out for a while.

Visited here for a destination wedding. No plans on going back. This is my first all inclusive ( I use that term loosely here) resort. I have been on all inclusive cruises and this is not all inclusive. So, I get it and this was my first time, so I won't rate them to bad not being all inclusive until I go to another resort and have something to compare it to. It's a business I get it. Customer service:. Very remarkable. Everyone on the staff said hi everytime I saw them. They always asked if I needed anything and did a great job. Language was a barrier at times but I blame that on me not them. I was in Mexico and not them in America. Some of the best service ever. Food: Ehhh.... Not impressed. Again only had a cruise to compare it to and this stuff wasn't even close. You had to pay for better food and I didn't do that. The food was just ok. Tried to figure out why and I think it was just a volume issue. Too many people to serve? Had to pay for room service food. Sucks. Had to make reservations to eat at the nice places. Sucks. Empty seats all over and I couldn't get a reservation before 9. Sucks. Visitors: I noticed the entire resort was more of a family place. Even on the adult side it was couples and very reserved. If you are a couple and looking for a calm relaxed place with no action this is it. So, no action. Resort entertainment:. Sucks. No nightlife. Maybe a random band or karyoke but nothing worth mentioning. Seriously, get a band or DJ for every night. And in more place than one. About 10 pm this place shuts down. One bar open and one band maybe. Had to go out in town more than I wanted to so we could dance or just be around people after midnight. I am definitely not a partier and I was disappointed with the entertainment. Wedding was awesome. They didn't miss a thing. On the bridge to the beach, good music, decent food, great location. If you want a destination wedding and are bringing tons of family this is the place. Rooms: great! My room was clean and updated and very nice. Semi quiet, I was on the family side so kids all over, but overall quiet. Very nice rooms. So three stars. Good and bad and I won't be back unless another family member is getting married here and I may stay down the street and just visit on wedding day.

The pipe they claimed my 70-year-old mother ripped from the wall

Beware! Lies, Deceit, and Broken Promises! It is not safe! Let me preface this by saying this will be a long, detailed read. My wife and I booked this resort in April of 2019 for an April 2020 wedding. We then were forced to move the wedding to April 2021 because of COVID. Below are the highlights of our issues: · Two nights before the wedding, my mother was found UNCONSCIOUS in a public restaurant bathroom soaked in disgusting toilet water from a burst pipe. The last thing my mother remembers is walking into the women's bathroom and there was a man in there. She woke up the next morning with a swollen jaw. When asked to see the cameras outside the bathroom, they claimed there were none. When I inquired the next day, they claimed they reviewed the cameras (that they said didn't exist) and nobody fit this man's description. They then proceeded to blame my 70-year-old, 130-pound mother for ripping a pipe from the wall and then falling unconscious ATLEAST 15 feet from where the pipe was ripped from the wall. When I attempted to address this with the head of security, he became very combative and refused to provide any answers. I then proceeded to pack up and leave with my mother two days before my reservation was scheduled to end out of fear for her safety. It's clear they are trying to cover something up. · Rooms originally booked (with an additional $10,000 worth of upgrades paid for by bride and groom) were not provided, even though they were available upon check-in for an "additional" fee. These rooms were made available to the group of MLM Yoga pants distributors, even though we booked our rooms 2 years in advance. We had 65+ rooms in our group block and 120+ people. We were told there was no "adult" side, but to our surprise upon arrival, there was an adult side! I spent the first 3 days of my stay running around the resort fighting to get my guests into the correct room. In the end, only about 15 of the 65 rooms were honored. Some were forced to pay an additional $75-$300 to move to the adult side even though their reservations clearly stated they were on the "La Perla" adult side. By my wedding day, I was mentally and physically exhausted. · We spoke with a bride who had her wedding 2 days before ours and she had nothing but nightmare stories. This, coupled with all of the other issues we were facing made us completely lose confidence in Vanessa (wedding coordinator). My sister, whom is a wedding planner, had to DROP out of my wedding the day of so that she could direct the ceremony and reception. I can't imagine what would have happened had she not been there to save the day. · For our reception dinner, we ordered and paid for Sea Bass. We were informed as they were bringing out the food that salmon would be served instead. This was highly embarrassing as Sea Bass was on the menu placard in front of every guest. The salmon was disgusting and inedible. The resort had all day to inform us of the issue, but no communication was provided until the food was being placed. The next day, I was able to order Sea Bass from a restaurant on the property. Very deceptive and unacceptable. · They served sparkling wine to kids! Fish to others with fish allergies! We provided the resort with VERY DETAILED dietary restrictions and exactly what each person should be provided. My nephew drank alcohol and my father got sick from even having the fish next to his entree. · The food was cold and a majority of the guests did not receive their food until well after the toast. Most of our guests were not provided any of the cake that we paid exorbitantly for. · A few weeks before the wedding, the resort requested $4000 additional to "Privatize" the venue we were using for the reception. I begrudgingly paid it because I wanted no problems on our wedding day. On numerous occasions, I or someone from my family had to ask people dressed half-naked coming from the beach, to remove themselves from our wedding. They even tried to take a photo in our photobooth! Our wedding was a FORMAL event, so there is no way security (which was non-existent) could have mistaken those people for our guests. · My group was predominately African American. We experienced racial profiling at every turn. The most glaring example is when two of our guests were stopped at the beach and were shown a video of a group of black people partying on the beach. They were then told they were not allowed to use the beach by the security guard. It's interesting that security can stop "our people" from having fun on a public beach, but they can't stop people who don't look like us (who by the way were extremely rude and entitled) from entering our PRIVATE EVENT. This was an absolute nightmare that we are still dealing with today. The resort is completely unresponsive, and so is Melia. My wife and I saved for years to have the wedding of our dreams, and instead got something out of a Stephen King novel.

Great hotel but if you're coming for the beach, forget about it. They don't tell you the problems they're having with algae and how bad it is. If I just wanted a resort getaway I could've stayed home and check into a local hotel. So bummed! The algae is not so much the issue as it is the smell. Oh the smell!! You can smell that stinky smell everywhere around the resort. Food is good and pools are good.

Absolutely amazing stay. We booked our stay through Cheap Caribbean's mystery deal (highly recommend). We wanted La Perla since that was adult only, but La Esmeralda was just as great. It's a bit of a walk to La Perla but not too bad. Everything blew us away- service, FOOD, cleanliness, quality, etc. We really can't complain. We also booked an excursion to the coral reef through the hotel concierge and it was amazing. Ideal for getaway for families and couples.

This resort is the best its clean and the service is top notch cannot say one bad thing about the resort the staff really give 100%.. I guess the only negative is time share people are annoying but ever resort in mexico has these people... Definitely will be back here my favorite resort in playa del carmen

    Marc F.

Overall, there's a lot of good and fun in this place just like most Mexico all inclusive vacation spots, but there's something definitely rotten here on a level I've not experienced.....the upcharge for services. I continuously run into "there's an up charge for that" related to things that in other resorts is a standard thing. I'm enjoying myself here but they have definitely created a "have & have not" environment depending on what you paid. It's uncomfortable, it's noticeable, it's unnecessary. We definitely will never return here. I do not like their business model, not one bit.

I was not approached by anyone offering to sell me anything or attend presentations. Staff were super friendly and helpful during our stay. There's a main pool and a quiet pool. So you have an option where you want to be based on your interest. Night shows were great with some fantastic performers. I wish that there was more Mexican themed shows or music but I guess they try to accommodate that the majority of guests were from Canada and USA. Some of the restaurants rotate being open for dinner. Your best bet is to make reservations ahead of time. You can always show up but might have to wait depending on the time. Overall food was good. Drinks were ok but as a social drinker, I wasn't impressed with my 1-2 drinks/day during my stay. I think I had one drink that I found really good. Beach area is not private and you might have people approach you to sell you stuff or services. A polite "no, thank you" works great. Location and proximity to 5th Avenue made it a great place to explore the area. Although filled with tourists, you also get some local interactions. I would come back to this resort in the future.

Ownership has changed, and this property is now known as Hyatt Vivid Playa del Carmen…read more My boyfriend planned the trip, and my only request was an all-inclusive resort. While the property has a lot of potential, it ultimately missed the mark, especially for a resort of this size. The biggest issue was the constant selling. I understand upselling is part of the business, but having to say no repeatedly throughout the stay was exhausting. Even after interacting with the same staff members multiple times, nearly every conversation felt like a sales pitch. We also received early morning calls to the room for non-urgent matters and promotions, which was disruptive and frustrating. Despite being advertised as all-inclusive, there were frequent pushes to upgrade to higher-end alcohol, exclusive experiences, and add-ons. I would much rather pay more upfront for a truly inclusive experience than feel harassed during my vacation. It really affected the overall vibe of the trip. The food was average and not memorable. The highlight was the coffee shop, which was open most of the day and consistently good. Poolside dining is very limited. You cannot casually order snacks like chips and guacamole while at the pool and instead have to go to one of the restaurants. Also be cautious with food near the pool, as wildlife grabbed my pizza while I was sitting there. Overall, this resort could be great, but the aggressive upselling, average food, and limited poolside service made it disappointing for an all-inclusive experience.

It had a jacuzzi and hammock in the balcony. We didn't have a stellar view, but I can only imagine if you did. I also never thought that I would say this, but room service came way too many times. They would come 2 to 3 times a day, and once even asked if we needed room service at 9pm LOL. We mainly ate at the buffet, which did not need a reservation, and it was pretty good. Our overall consensus was that the food here was very diverse and yummy, but was too salty. We don't drink, so I have no comment on that. The infinity pool was pretty nice, but I wish it had a direct view of the beach. There was a river surrounding the hotel, which blocked the view. The beach was pretty accessible though, and the water was very clear. There was a lot of seaweed in it though and it was more rocky than sandy which made it hard to lay our towels down. Overall, though, the service was great and we had a great time here. I would definitely recommend it because we didn't pay for the trip haha.

I was pleasantly surprised how clean the resort is and how courteous the service was. Most employees speak English. I speak Spanish fairly well so I had no issues communicating. There are extensive food options including all day buffets, restaurants, group dining and room service. The buffets lean toward traditional Mexican / Yucatán fare, however, it's not overly spicy. The bakery items are fantastic and not overly sweet. The only Michelin restaurant in Mexico is here at Xcaret. So check that out if you happen to visit here. There are several parks which include water adventures, ATV rentals, zoo & aquariums, history, zip lining etc. I was able to go to the Xplor park for an afternoon when I had some downtime. It was interesting and I had a good time. The cemetery was fascinating. I posted some pictures below. There is no shortage of pools here and every hotel section has its own. The main one that over looks the beach area fills up quick in the am. There are two gyms I believe and a spa which books up quickly so plan in advance. The beach is small and it's a bit of a walk to get to. Chairs and loungers get snapped up quickly early in the day. Security here is "air tight." What I mean the grounds are patrolled by armed guards and there are several checkpoints on the roads going in and out. You have to present your wrist band when entering and leaving with the exception of being on the bus. I was there for a corporate trip and we utilized a rental car to transport our executive staff to and from the airport. Even with the stringent security, the process was fairly easy for us. Checkout is a little odd. You go to the lobby with the letter (bill) that they slide under the door the night before you leave. If you owe nothing, you hand over the letter and wrist band and you're on your way. Large groups that arranged transit via bus was a whole different matter. They had those people wait on long lines to hand over the letter and wrist band and then wait for the bus. It looked a bit convoluted and confusing. Overall I personally had a good experience. The food and service were top notch in my opinion. The time I was able to enjoy the pool and park were nice as well. This was a work related trip and I'll definitely keep it in mind for a future vacation.

Poolside is another area to be spoiled- by Pepe and crew. They will get you anything you want, no need to lift a finger. And the wait staff at Coral restaurant are very thorough. They seem more like personal butlers rather than waiters, taking the time to get to know their guests by name, and learning their food and drink preferences. This area is also beautiful, with a view of the ocean. And the spa is very relaxing, access to the spa facilities including the steam room, jacuzzi is complimentary with your stay. Viceroy isn't without its flaws. The small beach is barely swimable due to the coral/rocks. And though they work to remove the seaweed, if you come from May-Nov that will be somewhat of a pain ( the whole area not just here). And there is music that drifts over from the next door hotel which at times annoys. It wasn't too bad while we were here, but was noticiable. There are mosquitos and rainforest animals around, so if you're not okay with seeing agouti while eating breakfast on your patio, this isn't your place. And yes it's pricey. Do they have an expansive menu with endless dining options? That's a no as well. Don't go into this resort, expecting a Hyatt or Hilton experience. This is a small, quaint, boutique style resort. What they do have is food that is executed and presented beautifully, even if it only features one main restaurant and one buffet each evening. They have excellent poolside lunch options. The menu may be smaller, but everything is perfectly prepared. This is a resort that spares no expense when it comes to flavor. The service at this resort is impeccable. From the wait staff to the housekeeping, I could not ask for better staff. The resort is starting to show its age. It's quaint, with its thatched roofs and tree treehouse like Haciendas. The grounds are well maintained, but again it's missing some bells and whistles. They need to make some updates, including better lighting (especially) adding well lit steps. maybe it was the drinks, maybe it was the early sunsets- but the trips up and down the stairs at night were beyond treacherous! The non-skid tape was well worn and slicker than it should be, and the steps were barely illuminated. We managed to make it through the week without incident, but barely! if you want a five star resort, this probably isn't the place for you. If you have kids and want a lot of activities again, probably not the place for you. However, if you are a foodie who values quality over endless menu options and you just want a nice relaxing vacation. This is a great place to stay. For us, it came down to location, location, location! Being able to walk out of our resort and right into the heart of shopping, food, and authentic experiences was a priceless amenity. I wish the bathrooms were updated, the concrete floors and dated showers have a very strong mildew smell- the lighting throughout is very poor. There isn't enough closet space ( I was able to hang three dresses, my husband's suit, and a few pairs of pants and with only three small nightstand size drawers there isn't much space for unpacking. Maybe it's the thatched roof, maybe it's the flaking concrete, but Even after sweeping the floor feels gritty - definitely come prepared with some slippers or flip-flops. I'm not used to having to wear shoes indoors, but at this resort, I highly recommend it. our week spent here was a bit rainy and overcast, none of the hot tubs at the resort were working. They were all slightly warmer than the pool, which isn't saying much, the ocean was warmer than the pools. Unfortunately, due the size of the waves we couldn't spend much time in the ocean, but their beach is much cleaner than many of the surrounding beaches. They do a great job of staying on top of all of the debris. And they have a lot of great lounging spaces with umbrella coverage. Unfortunately, during our stay Fuego, the main restaurant was under renovation so the limited menu was further limited. We were unable to order whole fish or any of their stone fired pizzas. Despite the closed restaurant, the weather, and the lack of hot tubs and updated facilities the stay was still magical. I can only attribute that to the warmth, sincerity, helpfulness, and availability of the staff. Was it the all inclusive resort experience I am accustomed to? No! Did I have an amazing time absolutely! I think it comes down to knowing what you want in a resort. If you aren't someone who wants 1 million activities a day then this is probably a great place to spend your vacation. They are generous with the drinks and the food, and even more generous with the hospitality!

Do NOT Book Your Wedding Here…read more They turned our wedding week (March 14 Wedding) into a nightmare so I want to warn every couple considering Mahekal for their wedding. What should have been the most magical week of our lives was repeatedly hijacked by the gross incompetence and dishonest practices of this resort's wedding team. And to be clear - we had a separately hired a wedding planner because by November we already knew Mahekal was not providing any support. We went into our wedding week thinking everything was settled without any warning of all the problems Mahekal was going to spring on us: - They lost track of $10,000 which we paid over SIX MONTHS ago. Totally unaccounted for in their system and we had to prove our payment history while onsite for our wedding. - They attempted to charge a $7,000+ penalty, claiming our room block had not been fulfilled through the code. We blocked 40 rooms and had 107 guests staying on property. We had to spend hours cross referencing the list they had which they didn't even have prepared for our meeting, with our list of guests which we had given them. We lost 4 hours to prove their botched webpage caused this issue. - What is truly unforgivable is Mahekal had an entire month after the room block deadline to communicate these issues to us. Instead, they waited until we arrived for our wedding to spring these problems on us due to their poor mgmt. We spent hours each day on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, AND Friday trying to clean up their messes, ruining our moods and taking time away from family and friends. - The front desk charged us $930 for an upgrade that was explicitly supposed to be complimentary. When we checked in they didn't even have us noted as the wedding couple and did absolutely nothing special for us - no rose petals, no welcome gift, nothing but headaches. When I brought the upgrade charge up to Laura, the in-house "wedding coordinator," she showed me on her monitor that their system had the upgrade documented as FREE... I showed her the additional $930 charge on my credit card. She took over a day to find the charge in their system and promised to work with the front desk to return this but has not responded to me or my wedding planner when we followed up. - We didn't get an adequate room even with the purchased upgrade so I couldn't take any getting ready photos. When we toured they showed a room with a living room which was not made available to me. Total bait and switch. I spent 9am to 1:30pm of my wedding day with just vendors because of this... They also do NOT have a bridal suite which is another sign they are not equipped to handle weddings. - I specifically and clearly requested mahi mahi NOT be served as the fish entrée option at our wedding and Laura said she would work with the chef... At our reception I took a bite of the fish and informed my husband it was mahi mahi and he gave me half his chicken... - For our welcome party, we were charged $450 for three infused water dispensers, a "water bar" we had approved for our outdoor cocktail hour (where it made sense given the heat despite the open bar). Instead, Mahekal applied it to the wrong event entirely; the welcome party which was hosted in a covered space with fans (La Cocina) for which we were already paying for a three-hour open bar. I didn't even see this water bar but whether it was there or not, they scammed us out of $450 because they can't even track a single add-on without messing up. - It's obvious now that we were shown updated rooms when we toured a year before our wedding. What we actually arrived to were cracked floors, broken AC, and toilets with rusted flush buttons. We stayed at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba, an actual 5-star resort, for 3 nights after our wedding to decompress from the stress Mahekal had caused. Mahekal felt like a beach motel in comparison. Mahekal is not just incompetent, they are predatory: waiting until you are emotionally and logistically vulnerable so they can hold one of the most important events of your life hostage. The individuals responsible for this horrible experience were Laura Elena Castellanos Patino and Maria Elena Armenta. The only thing I wish for them is Karma. Thankfully, we ended up having a wonderful wedding reception thanks to friends and family, and those memories are slowly replacing our horrible encounters with the resort staff.

So many little touches were personalized - which were thoughtful and made the best gifts we could've received. The staff knew our names, were kind to our kids, and went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay. Our butler was attentive to our needs and accommodated every request. The drink/food service at the pool cabanas and the beach was great as well. The property is absolutely stunning. Of the hotels in the area, this one is by far the nicest, most private and without the typical commercial crowd. It felt private, secluded and quiet. We booked a Rooftop Ocean View Suite, but were delighted to get upgraded to the Two Bedroom villa. A bump from 966 to 1562 square feet of space (not including the extra outside space). The welcome drinks, popsicles (for the kids) and guacamole were great and of course the dramatic boat ride to your suite is one of a kind. The suites at Rosewood Mayakoba are amazing. Even the small suites are spacious (I think their smallest room is 788 sqft). Our suite had plentiful outdoor space, its own dock to the lagoon, a private plunge pool and also a large rooftop terrace. Truly too much space for our family of four (2 adults, 2 kids), but we happily enjoyed it. Service was stellar, which I expected at a high-end hotel. My most recent vacations have been to the Caribbean, so the combination of Mexican hospitality along with the Rosewood service really made for a nice stay. Our butler stayed in contact with us via Whatsapp, but we really didn't have many requests except for booking dinner reservations and ordering more cow's milk to the room for our baby. Our kids had their own monogrammed pillowcases, that we took home. The turn-down service also left small wooden figurines (indigenous) which was a nice touch for the kids. There's definitely an extra attention to detail that's on another level from other hotels. We were able to get a bike with training wheels and also a trailer for the kids to go on short bike rides with. The kids club was very good. Lots of planned activities throughout the day and an air conditioned indoor play area. Our daughter was 3, so one of us was with her, but I think kids 4 and older can stay alone. The staff was consistent and got to know our daughters pretty quickly. There are excursions within the property like the bat cave and boat rides which is nice (instead of just staying indoors doing arts and crafts). The family pool was just okay. There's a small shallow part for toddler to play in and also a bigger deeper pool. It's well kept, but I can see how some might say it's time for a renovation (which I believe they are doing). There isn't a very good gradual entry point in the bigger pool, so I would say it's not the most kid friendly for small children (no problem for bigger kids), since there's one step and then it drops off to 4 feet. The beach also is undergoing a lot of erosion along with the sargassum. It's narrow and slightly rocky, so I feel like if you plan on playing in the sand or spend a lot of time in the water, there might be better options. However, it's still quite scenic and perfectly fine for lounging in the recliner. Food was very good (especially breakfast at Casa del Lago), but is pricey like everyone mentions. La Fondita, the tostada restaurant in El Pueblito, is one of the better and more low-key options at Rosewood. There is a consistent kids menu at all the restaurants at Rosewood. We did not get a chance to check out the restaurants at the other hotels. TL;DR - Luxurious and family friendly resort that shines with their accommodations and service. It's relaxing, but quiet and a bit sleepy (might be too quiet for some people). Food is good, but pricey. Kids club is great, but the pool is just okay without easy entry or waterslides. Beach is not best for extended playtime in sand or water. Even so, I still loved it and would definitely return.

Second, from 7am till about 6pm food is extremely limited. There's a buffet and an outdoor restaurant both of which are sub par. Also, from about the same time frame there's nothing to do in the resort. Your options are the pool, spend a bunch of money at the spa, or stay in your room. There's really no activities available outside of that. Also, the reservation system for restaurants sucks. If you don't make one in advance, you literally gamble on getting to eat what you want. You're on vacation and plans change but that means having to settle for less by their standards. Third, is the service. It's very sub par. They don't care to going above and beyond with accommodations or helping you with things. You get half answered questions and unclear responses. Keeping mind cars don't go down to the front of the hotel so you'll have to walk a few blocks with your luggage for arrival/departure. Amenities: so so. Our safe didn't work but they fixed it the next day. Our TV didn't work all 5 nights we were there. The fridge is too small, the bathroom is tiny and not private. It was far from welcoming. * The toilet water pressure was embarrassingly bad, and the rain shower barely worked--taking 10 minutes to warm up, with only half of the sprayers functioning. The bathtub was also unusable due to a faulty drain plug and sprayer. * The TV didn't work properly due to poor internet, so we couldn't even use it in the evenings. * The room was advertised as oceanfront but was actually bar-front, meaning we heard loud music and noise at all hours. Music even started at 7 AM on Sunday. * The sheets were extremely rough and uncomfortable, and while the pillows were nice, the pillowcases were terrible. Hotel Conditions & Service: * The hallway and bar area flooded multiple times during our stay. * One elevator was out of service, causing long waits. * The entire hotel felt run-down, with moldy grout, peeling paint, crooked doors, and worn-out furniture. * Rooms were not soundproof at all--you could hear every noise from the hallway and hotel bar. Staff & Customer Service: * While the cleaning staff did an excellent job, the front desk and maintenance staff were unresponsive. * The bartender initially told us we could charge drinks to our room, but the next day, my husband was accused of walking out on the bill--an incredibly unprofessional experience. The Positives: * The cleaning staff was detail-oriented and thorough. * The restaurant food was good, and the staff there was friendly. * The location is great, and the rooftop offers a nice view. Overall, we expected much more from this hotel, especially for a special occasion. The lack of customer service, the deteriorating conditions, and the inconveniences made for a frustrating and uncomfortable stay. We would not recommend The Carmen Hotel and will not be returning.
