He discussed options, the actual surgery, and possible complications weeks before I entered the OR for the actual procedure. I had questions about intra-operative monitoring of PTH levels. and anything that could go "sideways." He discussed each in detail so I would be clear going in. One year later, the scar has healed perfectly, my calcium levels are back to normal and I feel good. In the interim, I've had follow-ups and labs as required. In doing my own research, I found that parathryoidectomies have the best outcomes when performed by a surgeon who has extensive experience in that particular surgical niche.
