I love stopping in Lost Hills when we drive along the 5 between SoCal and NorCal. It's kind of in the middle and we need gas/charging. I like that there's a gas station a little walk away from el Dollar Taqueria, so we can use the restroom. But this is a taco truck with a tent and cement seating and tables. It's convenient for a quick stop and bite to eat. Prices are reasonable but has been creeping up every year (since we've been coming for 20 years, we notice this). I like the food and service here. Another stop at El Dollar - perfect pit stop for the Bay Area - LA road trip. Food is solid and the people running the taco truck are super nice. I was peeking my head over the counter at a bubbling pork rib stew and asked "what is that?" The cashier said "chile verde" and called to me as I was leaving to give me a sample! Tacos were great as usual. They're making tacos and shells to order so it takes some time. Also got a mixed fajita plate (comes with 6 tortillas) which we enjoyed and also were able to get some veggies into our system. Tried this spot on a long road trip driving from NorCal to SoCal. It was great to see a taco truck in the midst of this travel stop full of fast food which I tend to avoid. Expectations were low as this was just a grab and go type of meal and it's located in a pet remote area. I'm starting to learn those are the best environments to find great mexican food! We tried their asada burrito supreme and quesadilla. Quite pleased how great everything tasted. The 2 ladies that are making the food in the truck make each order fresh and really take their time with each item so I do not mind the wait time if there's a few groups here. There are limited options when driving between the Bay Area and SoCal on the I-5. I thought I'd chance trying a taco truck and decided to try El Dollar Taqueria near Hernandez Tires, but left wishing I had just stopped at an in-n-out or McDonald's. First, it took a few minutes for the cashier to take our order because they were talking and laughing with another employee and didn't acknowledge us. Then, we realized everything we ordered was charged more than what was posted on the menu. Then it got even more disappointing when we got our food! We ordered a few burritos (carne asada, pollo, and tripas) and an enchilada. While I appreciate the burritos were generously packed with meat, the meats were unseasoned, dry, and tough. You definitely needed some salsa to help eat those burritos. The cheese enchilada was also disappointing. I've never had an "enchilada" like this before. It was basically a red tortilla topped with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and crema. I would not recommend this to satisfy your Mexican food cravings :/ read more

Such a delicious surprise along the 5 freeway instead of the typical fast food offerings... 4 stars!!!! Avoid the usual fast food places on your road trip along the 5 freeway and enjoy the yummy food at the El Dollar Taqueria Food Truck instead. Every single taco that we ordered and tried was super tasty and delicious; all the meats were super tender and juicy, plus the corn tortillas are hand-made to order. Out of the six tacos we tried, the cabeza is far and away my favorite since it was the most flavorful with just the right amount of fatty goodness! Priced at $3-4 per taco, the portion sizes are huge so the price is definitely warranted. Made it all the way back to L.A. still pretty full after our road trip. This is a nice Taco Truck with a covered seating area that exists in a virtual food desert next to a truck stop. Had carne asada tacos. Would have been a four-star review, but I asked for salsa when I ordered at the counter, and asked for confirmation that it was included when I picked up the order five minutes later. And it was. But we just got one small salsa verde (which is the same size they give for two tacos), which wasn't enough for the six tacos we ordered. The truck is beneath a sign that says "Hercules Tires | Guitierrez Tires" and it's butted up against a covered seating area so I think this is it's regular spot. It's in walking distance of the Pilot station and Wendy's. Enjoy. But don't let them short you on the salsa! read more

What a find! I'm on the road, on highway 5 in California and found this little taco truck at the very end of the street. At first I didn't even see it. They all kinds of tacos, tamales, pupusas,... really good. I ordered 2 cheese enchiladas and the plate was complete with a salad, served right on top, and rice and beans. In addition was the obligatory lime and... a really good tomatillo salsa. Ample portion and tasty! There are even tables set up so you can eat comfortably and the whole place is nice and clean. Nice people too. My bill was under $8. It's a great place stop and eat. read more

Stopped by on our drive on the 5 to grab gas and food. Wasn't feeling the fast food locations so we came to this taco truck for some tacos! The taco truck is hidden a little past an Arco gas station and right beside a tire shop. I got the pollo, asada and pastor taco. The flavor on the pollo was my favorite as it was pretty tasty. Phew... Did I dodge a bullet of anticipated disappointment!! If you haven't read my reviews before, I suggest that you do. I have a full onslaught of attacks against fake Mexican restaurants, and praises for true, alike. Let me tell you how I almost fell into immediate regret when I ordered. So everybody knows, a carne asada burrito is three things. Carne asada, guacamole, and Pico. None of this rice and beans and lettuce and cheese and corn debris that's laying behind the grease trap, only three ingredients. If I want a burrito supreme, I'll go to Taco Bell. Two simple words that boil my blood, and put me into immediate doubt when I order a carne asada burrito. When they ask "with everything?"... So, I order my burrito and I get those two rancid words. I want Mexican food, I don't want a white wash burrito with a bunch of fillers and trash in it. I told her I just wanted carne asada Pico and guacamole. And she told me "well I only have rice, well I only have beans" but it was more of a language thing, so I said "no no no. No rice no beans no cheese, solamente carne, pico, and guac that's it". So she said okay, and said they don't have guacamole they only have avocado which is typically another red flag so I told her I would do the avocado. Immediately expecting to be pissed off I hovered around the trash can while I took my first bite so I could video you guys me throwing it straight in the trash when I bit into a mouthful of rice. BUT!!! To my delight and utter amazement, she gave me exactly what I asked for! The burrito itself was good size, kind of typical. Super super flavorful. And I don't know what they put in their salsa but I want to go buy a 5 gallon bucket of it. Some of the best taco shop salsa I've had my life literally. I'm super skeptical about Taco trucks, well food trucks in general. This one was your basic food truck, they had outside shaded seating, surrounded by truck stops and other businesses. The two people sitting there were cool, they just sat there hahaha! I sort of felt that if I hadn't haggled and just agreed to what she was trying to pitch me,, I would have ended up with another insult to Mexican heritage, but I stayed firm, and she whipped me up one of the best burritos I've had in a long while. In a nutshell, this is a very good option in the middle of nowhere Central California. My wife and I were travelling north on I-5 and, if you know me, you know I was hungry, so we began to look around for our options. This one surfaced via Yelp and we decided to pursue it. It looked small, authentic and family run. For us, it came through. Do know a few things. First, it was a bit hard for us to find, as there was some construction going on, and it is a very small place. If you said yes, this place is a hidden treasure tucked away amongst gas stations and fast food restaurant. The tacos were great. The tortilla was freshly made ( I could see her pressing the maiz). That's not true of many brick and mortar restaurants so the fact that she took the care to do it fresh in the truck was awesome. The meat was well seasoned, especially the pastor and carnitas. The sauce was delicious and spicy and added the right sort of kick to the tacos. Many are complaining about the prices but she really packs in the meat and makes the tacos a great value at $2.75. It's worth the stop if you're starving. The knock is that it is a single lady taking orders and preparing the food so it took a bit to even place our order.
