    Paella

My tour guide recommended El Forcat for paella. The restaurant is in a quaint building near one of the old gates of Valencia in the old town. I had the Menu del Dia, which included a paella. I thought the food was good...nothing outstanding but not bad. They have several large paellas out in front of the dining room entrance so guests can visualize the food. Service was quick and attentive.

Our local tour guide recommended El Forcat for some of the best paella in Valencia. Valencia supposedly has the best paella due to their high quality rice, which grows well in this humid part of Spain. We ate a heavy lunch at 1pm using their set menu. Outstanding food and friendly service - 5 stars! For 15€ a person, you can pick up to four different apps, an entree, beverage, coffee/tea, and dessert. Pretty good deal since portions are huge and quality excellent. For appetizers we ordered chicken skewers, shrimp skewers, roasted red peppers and cod and ham, and fried baby squid. All great - with the chicken being our favorite since it was grilled perfectly and so juicy. For the entree we got the Paella A Banda which is where the rice is cooked with fish broth and layered with squid, cuttlefish, and shrimp. We were tempted to get Paella Valencia but the wife was hesitant since it had rabbit in it. Anyways, the A Banda was perfect for seafood lovers like us. Desserts included a cold cinnamon creme brulee (excellent) and this giant white melon wedge that was sweet and juicy. Using Google, its called a Santa Claus melon in Spain. Coffee was served in a small cup and thus was closer to an espresso - very strong and perfect way to end the meal.

I had 4 meals in Valencia and this is the best so far. The swordfish is perfectly done and the texture on the fish is amazing - not hard at all, yet cooked well. The best part is the paella - it's just so much better than 2 other restaurants I've eaten in - I suspect that they have baked the fat from the shellfish and squids into the rice, and that's why it taste so good.

We decided to eat here after having seen the trip advisor certificate of excellence 2017; absolutely true! We had a piece of tanderloin, soft as butter that melts in the mouth (amazing) and a menu with Valencian paella and sirloin, very good too. Another merit was the service, we arrive some minutes before 23 but nobody treat us as they were in a rush, always kind. If you are looking for a great restaurant, with attention on every dish for a medium price, this has to be absolutely your choice!!

Service was really good, attentive. We ordered everything to share and we may have ordered a bit too much, but It was all very good. Wanted to try the croquetas since they were homemade. The were good. We ordered the lobster and cheese ones. Liked that the lobster one wasn't fishy. The patatas bravas had a homemade alioli that was really good but it was too much. I'd ask for that on the side next time, but I loved that the potatoes were crispy!! So big score there! The burrata was good, what you'd expect from a burrata. Nothing extraordinary, but we devoured it. The little steak toasts with foie gras were tasty, we ate them so fast we didn't have a chance to take a photo! They were really good with a little apple sauce on the side. The jamón cecina had a strange brownish color on some pieces. We didn't finish it. The mussels were interesting with coconut milk and curry. Wish we had asked for bread to dip in the sauce. The service was good. We got new plates when the pasta ragú came out. We ordered a Valencia wine, which we liked. We'd come again. Make reservations and expect the same outstanding service. Good find!

For our a pair teeth, we started with agua Valencia. Be careful, it's orange juice from Valencia oranges mixed with gin, vodka and cava. it doesn't taste very strong, but it has quite a kick. One piece was enough. For food we started with and shared papas bravas. Next were the lobster croquettes. Fabulous. The real show stopper was the zucchini carpaccio. No real way to describe it except exceptionally tasty. We lastly shared the duck confit. Fall off the bone delicious. Wonderful food, reasonably priced and epic service from Nicholas and Abril. This is certainly the place to try for a casual buy delicious meal.
