My wife and I enjoyed our visit for an early dinner at Bar Almudin. We started with the Patatas Bravas which were soft and savory with a lightly crisp outside and topped with a creamy and lightly spicy mayo-like sauce. Next we had the Tres Reinas (Sardinas, Anchoas Y Boquerones). These olive oil marinated fish fillets were my favorite dish of the dinner: nicely tender, flavorful and addictive. We really enjoyed the fresh paella we ordered at Alumdin. We expected that a fresh, labor-intensive dish like this would take a while to cook, but we never even imagined we'd have to wait more than an hour for it! Once our food finally arrived and we'd gotten over the fact that it included both snails and rabbit meat, we dug in and ate every single bite; it made for a delicious, hearty meal. The wait staff were very friendly, and joked with us in English about how we were using our phones too much ;-) In summary, our dining experience here was undoubtedly authentic, if we ever come again I'm going to make a point to order something else. read more

I was intent on trying one more time to wrangle a really good paella. I'm a single traveler and struck out on the beach front restaurants since everywhere requires a person to buy paella for two. Walking up and out of the Túria Gardens, I was on the edge of the old city and El Almudįn was only a few blocks away. When I arrived, the 5 sidewalk tables were taken and, peeking inside, I asked whether they might have a table for one. The waitress/hostess smiled a big welcome and immediately placed me at a table set for two. I ordered some water and beer, and settled in to look at the menu. She asked if Alhambra brand was okay and brought out their special reserve. Okay, we're on the right track. As expected, paellas showed a price for one but required a purchase for two. Marga came over, saw me pining over the paella page and with complete magnanimity explained, "It's still early and if you'd like a paella for one, we can make it!" She was twanging on my heartstrings. I ordered the real, the original, and the only authentic Valencian paella. Marga looked at me, like she'd heard this before, and asked if I had either an aversion or allergy to snails? Nope. Bring 'em on! Everything they cook is made at order time and uses fresh ingredients from the Mercado Central next door. It was going to take 30 minutes to prepare the paella so I started with a gazpacho. It was so flavorful and fresh I could have just eaten another three and gone home content. Patience, patience. I had been editing my photos and earlier travel when the paella came up. It was served in the hot paellaera which sat insulated on top of cardboard egg cartons. Marga let me know that Valencianos eat their paella straight from the paellaera. She proceeded to hand me a toothpick which, she said, was for digging out the caracoles (snails) from their shells. Now I'm living!! As I noted the rabbit she quickly said, yes, this is totally traditional; rabbit, chicken and caracoles. While I chowed down on this deliciousness, I also noted the flat broad beans, the fava (fabia) beans, the aromatic saffron and the savory rosemary. Wow. And the best part? Around the entire edge of the paellaera, there was socarrat!! That crunchy but not hard, nearly caramelized rice. OMG!!! In the meantime, I'd asked Marga for a glass of dry white to accompany the meal. With perfect selection, she brought me a Las Dos Ces, white. Forty minutes go by and I'm rubbing my distended belly in perfect contentment. Marga showed up as if on cue, knowing full well I couldn't resist dessert. I ordered the Arnadí, pungent caramel pumpkin pudding cake served with vanilla ice cream with stripings of fruta del bosque. That, along with a café cortado. And of course, Marga steps up with a complimentary shot of Mistela - Valencian sweet wine resembling a strong moscato. What a wonderful and happy ending to my day. read more

Great little place! Waitress spoke English with me. Communicated without problem! English menu was available. Food was very good, especially tapas! Paella was just normal to us, didn't give us a surprise. Sangria was very good. Cold soup was delicious, the mussels were fat and yummy. But note! They said they open at 17:30 for dinner.... Another great example of fantastic Spanish cuisine and kindness. I enjoyed a wonder gazpacho then valencian paella, highlighted with snails and rabbit. I felt a it guilty eating my furry friend, but alas when in Valencia... I was offered gratis a apertif, which I had to refuse because I do not drink alcohol. The gesture was warmly appreciated however. I recommend eating your paella for lunch as it is quite heavy. read more

After a crazy day of walking around in Valencia, we were hungry and wanted to grab some tapas close to our hotel. We spotted this place and grabbed a table outside. Almudín specializes in traditional tapas as well as paella and seafood dishes. We started out with some of the local cerveza (bottle only, no draft here) and patatas bravas. Next we ordered chicken curry skewers and Luisito. The curry skewers were tasty and the vegetables that came with it were great as well. The Luisito was a paella type dish with creamy rice, duck, rabbit, snail and veal. Tasty as well but not a huge portion. Extremely cozy, tucked away restaurant in a nice part of Valencia. Our server was incredibly friendly and warm. The place was packed at around 10 pm on a Saturday night, but luckily we got a table right away. We had the best patatas bravas I've ever had (bomb garlic aoili) a tosta with shrimp and squid, and the seafood Paella (when in Valencia, right?) and an awesome bottle of wine. Everything was great, a perfect Valencian meal. Finished off with a delicous apple dessert. read more

Nice neighbourhood away from the tourist traps of the cathedral square. Lovely atmosphere and decorations. The waitress put us on the balcony. I don't know if it was because we were early (8:30pm) or if it was just a quiet night and there was only one waitress. This meant service was really slow which let everything down a bit. We ordered patatas bravas (€4) while we waited for our seafood paella (€14 per person) which is made fresh to order. The food was beautiful and the paella had so much seafood in it! A little pricey but we'll worth the quality and quantity! The waitress gave us a complimentary dessert wine to finish the meal. I give it 4 stars because of the slow service and a little pricey for our budget but worth the visit! read more

The best place where I've been in Valencia. I was there at lunch time and I was impressed about the huge range of possibilities and the variety of the menu. The quality of the menu was excellent. It was very hard for me to choose 5 between those 11 options, because all of them looked great, and then they offer a just made "Paella", also very good and tasty. The desserts where also nice and soft, home-made. And not only that: the stuff working there were so so nice! All that for around 16€ Totally worth it. If you visit Valencia, you have to go there! ;) read more
