Best hidden (from myself) place on the north of PR. Located in road #2, close to exit 42 in the…read morehighway (#22). We got to this place by pure luck and we were even skeptical at first. We had a long wait, but it was worth every minute of it. The appetizers (sandwiches of ham, turkey, chorizo) were phenomenal. The meat (churrascos and rib eyes) were all prime cuts and cooked to perfection; juicy and flavorful. We were a party of 8 and we were all more than pleased and happy with the food and service. Easy 5 stars . By the way, the place is truly a bakery, but surpasses many named and even recognized or so called restaurants.

***THE BEST CUBAN SANDWICH!***…read more A typical Puerto Rican small town "cafetería", very casual, but cute and warm, with lots of wood decoration. They have a lot of wines, cheeses and specialty hams, very much like Spanish "cavas". They have bakery sweets and sandwiches, breakfasts and snacks like croquettes and such. But they make, hands down, the BEST Cuban sandwich I've ever had. Ask for "pan sobao" -- a slightly sweeter and softer kind of bread. Great coffee too! It's a little too far from San Juan, unless you're headed towards Arecibo to do some tourism, in which case, this is an excellent locals stop on your way. :-) Disclaimer: Please remember Puerto Rico is not big on Yelp yet, since it's small enough for any local to find restaurants, therefore business owners don't advertise a lot and locals have no real need for it. So you see just 1 rating and review here now, but don't be fooled. Compare with my Florida and California reviews if you feel unsure. :-)

We had seen this truck parked here all week, but this night was the night I would commit to trying it, and I am happy I did. I can't even remember the name of the sandwich I got, but I know it contained three meats and that was enough to this carnivore to get it. The sandwich was delicious, it hit the spot, just what I needed at 3:30 in the morning, I highly recommend you try them no matter what time of the day you get the craving. BTW, the location on Yelp is wrong, or they have a second truck.

Man, this seems so far away now! A cruise we took in March, just before all the Covid madness blew…read moreup, took us to PR. Our first night there, we only wanted a casual bite. So we found this food truck not far down the street from the DoubleTree. Their menu was not that hard to understand even for non-Spanish speakers for the most part, but then when it comes to something novel ("What is a fongo?"), the lack of an explanation and choppy English-language skills might not help very much. So after a bit of pointing and gesticulating, we ended with an artisanal burger and some fongos pollo. The food was OK - freshly prepared and quite substantial. For my taste, it relied a bit much on grease and mayonnaise. Still a decent taste of local fare - or IS it considered authentic local fare? Apparently, they are pretty big for a food truck - 5 or 6 different locations at least, depending on which truck you want!
