I am sad to report that after not visiting in 2 or 3 years - our lunch at Gran Rodeo (while a good price - they have lunch specials) was not good. Service was fast, friendly, and welcoming, and the kitchen moved impressively quickly despite the weather. Portions are generous overall, though I would have loved a bit more carnitas in the burrito to really balance the size. That said, everything was hot, fresh, and satisfying, and it's clear this is a reliable neighborhood spot that shows up for the community even on a snowy night. El Gran Rodeo is one of those places I keep returning to. First of all, they have Corona Familiar... now I am not a Corona fan generally, but Corona Familiar will get me in the door anywhere. Secondly, it is one of these small "chains" with a few other locations that I wouldn't call a real chain restaurant, but it almost feels like it occupies a space between a small singular place and a large chain. There are a few other similar style Mexican places like this in the area, but I have found that El Gran Rodeo is probably the best, and easily fills the space of "manufactured Mexican" better than anywhere else. This is not to say that it isn't legit Mexican food, but if I want REAL stuff, I will go somewhere much smaller, usually run by a family or a couple. However, for what they do offer, they do it very well, and they cater towards the American palate and have been seemingly very successful. There are copious amounts of brilliantly delicious chips and a variety of salsas brought to the table upon arrival, and you can always ask for other varieties if the basic house and verde are not up your alley. I will usually ask for the much spicier one that they have in addition to the two they provide. Flavors are on point, and service is always friendly and quick, and their tamales are also surprisingly wonderful; not usually the case for a larger place like this! Where they really excel for me though is that I can bring everyone here and they can all find something that they enjoy on the fairly extensive menu, and the space is not overdone, but still offers a nice experience without too much noise, while providing tons of space for dining, as well as having a full bar area if that is more your speed. It looks to be stocked with a variety of tequilas for tasting, and they do have extremely tasty margaritas in a world of different flavors, although their traditional has easily been my favorite. In an area with many choices, as well within distance of world-class Mexican in Kenneth Square and in Philly, this is a great option, and I highly recommend stopping in sometime if you are nearby, or in the area for something else. You'll easily find something you'll like, the bill will be reasonable, and everyone leaves happy! read more

Best Hispanic food I've had in PA! The food is so flavorful and our server was very friendly and gave good recommendations. We ordered the fajita Texanas nachos, the Texas dip, and the molcajete. So flavorful and just hands down, one of the best meals I've had. We also ordered the churros and vulcan for dessert and they were amazing. I ordered a Pina Colada and it was the best I've ever had. We were here for dinner. I'm not quite sure what happened to this place in terms of service. It is truly awful. It took a waiter 10 minutes to greet our table. When he did come he put chips and salsa on the table and said," I'll be right back." I tried to catch him because obviously at this point we were ready to order after waiting so long but he walked away too fast and I could not catch him. My husband ordered the enchilada poblano that says on the menu it specifically comes with chicken. They brought beef. It took him so long to come back after we got the food. I had to get someone else to fix his enchiladas. We again waited and waited for him to come back when done eating. We were ready to go at this point by many minutes. When he finally again came back, we asked for a box for my son's burrito. He took another 10 minutes to come back and never brought the box. At that point we just left my son's leftover burrito there. My burrito was very good and so was my sons. My husbands enchiladas was not. I cannot imagine going back there after being treated so poorly by the staff waiter. They have went slowly went downhill ever since they moved buildings. After a long wait, he came to the hostess station. I explained what happened and asked why food would be served when it was visibly inedible He did not respond. Only raised his eyebrows as if to wonder why I was even speaking to him. I then asked if he was aware of this and he said yes, he saw the chimichangs. I paused to wait for, at least, an apology. There was nothing but uncomfortable silence. I chose to leave never to return. This type of dismissiveness in the service industry is all-to-common. No one seems to take pride in their services much anymore. I don't feel that putting this out there to make others beware, is being , what they call a "Karen." I think it's just those of us who once enjoyed going out for a nice meal and expecting to receive good service are finally just fed up with the attitudes of today's "new" workforce. read more

TL;DR: Each time we're in the area, my wife says "Chori-Pollo?" And I say "Sure." Mains: Last night we had that and tacos de carne asada. Large amount of steak tacos on three double corn tortillas with a spicy taco sauce, plus rice and refried beans. Delicious. Chori-Pollo was good as always with two latge pieces of grilled chicken, chorizo, cheese, rice, refried beans and flour tortillas. Complimentary chips and salsa went quickly. Dessert: Servers were kind enough to sing Happy (belated) Birthday to me at my wife's request with a candle, raspberry cheesecake and temporary sombrero included. I survived the embarassment long enough to make a wish and enjoy my half of the cheesecake. Parking: Village at Painters Crossing Shopping Center. Same lot as the old place, just in a bigger building to its left. No problems finding a table on a Thursday but Fridays and Saturdays can get crowded. Convenient to intersection of S US 202 and S US 1. Service: Good. My wife speaks Spanish, hence the surprise sombrero. Return: We have. Overall: One of our regular choices for dine-in Mexican. Mediocre Mexican food slapped together for undiscerning palates. Came here after a long afternoon of family fun at Oasis and decide to check this place out before looking at yelp reviews. And boy was I 100% not surprised by the lack luster reviews. First of all, the staff seemed very short with me when they couldn't understand my order of 1x el pastor 1x steak and 2x 2 shrimp tacos and a chile relleno. I guess they are more use to people ordering by combo # or what have you. My tacos came and the shrimp taco was is a soggy soft shell with nothing in it other than the shrimp itself and some brown sauce. The shrimp tasted pretty good but the sauce made the tortilla very unappealing texturally. The el pastor and steak tacos were pretty good, they were a little bigger than I expected but that's OK. I don't think the addition of pineapples to the el pastor was needed but both were slightly above average. My chile relleno was bland and forgettable. Since I was with a large group, I was able to try some of the other dishes and none of it blew me away, all just variations of red sauce, cheese and meat. Also pro tip, do not order any hard tacos, they are dryer than a saltine's fart and the meat tastes like cardboard. On the plus side, the chips gets free refills and the guacamole was good but could use a little more lime. All in all an unimpressive lower tiered tex mex place that serves some food... Used to be good, now, not so much. I had the street tacos and my wife had seafood chimichanga. The tacos were a decent size but there was literally no flavor in the chicken...none. The salsa that came with the chips had no flavor and my wife described her meal as bland. It really seems like they are getting the cheapest ingredients and it sure tastes like it. I had been wanting to try this place for a while and I was not disappointed! The ambiance is cozy and well done. We sat in the bar at a high top, it was busy but not too loud. I must say our server, Alitl was AMAZING! When we told him it was our first time he made sure to let us know where to find everything and what were the favorites. Terrible service dirty cups dirty tables dirty chairs/seating asked for a glass of water and had pieces of food floating in cup waitress was not at all attentive or asked if we wanted napkins or staws had to ask other waiters for some reason they started to get upset as if i had asked for something ridiculous.
