[[HIGHLIGHT]]An incredible michelin-starred experience with a relaxed, intimate vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is casual and inviting, with an open kitchen concept that encourages guests to walk around, observe the food prep, and chat with the chefs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was such a unique and personal touch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you're more introverted like I am, rest assured you can also enjoy the meal comfortably from your table without feeling pressured to mingle.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's BYOB so you can bring your alcohol (or non-alcohol) drink of choice. They recommend whites or light reds, so we brought a pinot which paired well with the meal. It seems like the menu is constantly evolving with new innovative ideas. Each course felt like a thoughtful surprise, so I'll keep the descriptions brief to avoiding spoiling too much: *Corn (creole style with crab/chicken) *Beef tartare *Halibut with porcini mushroom - a standout dish for me, mainly due to the porcini! *Smoked scallop *Octopus - unbelievably tender *Chicken and waffle - not what you'd expect, and the chicken liver mousse was a fantastic addition *Duck - so tender and full of flavor *French fries & frosty - a playful and nostalgic treat *Cherries - a lovely finish to the meal Every dish was plated beautifully and thoughtfully presented. It's clear the team puts care into not just the flavors, but the entire dining experience. Highly recommend this spot for a memorable meal that balances refinement with warmth and creativity.

El Ideas is torn between two extremes for me. On one hand, I personally didn't like it at all. On the other hand, I can see how it might be perfect for someone with the opposite taste, because the effort and the service were excellent. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The first thing that struck me was the appearance of the employees. They looked too casual, and the overall space felt more like walking into a warehouse than a restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It didn't feel inviting, and at times I found myself distracted, thinking about whether hair or other things could end up in the food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]That sense of "chaos" took away from the dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Another part I didn't enjoy was being told what to do by the chef. We were instructed to eat certain plates without utensils and even walk around the kitchen to watch them cook. Personally, I don't like being directed on how to eat during a meal. At a restaurant, I prefer to relax and enjoy without following orders. The food itself also wasn't to my taste. The flavors didn't land well, the textures were tough, and while there seemed to be some Japanese influence in the dishes, it didn't feel authentic. The final dessert especially felt childish, as if I wasn't being respected as a diner. On the positive side, the workers were very friendly and attentive, which I did appreciate. [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, the location itself looked sketchy and didn't add to the overall impression.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We have eaten numerous times at El Ideas over the last decade or so, every meal has been memorable. Last nights dinner was very good, everything tasted great and the chefs were particularly engaging. BYOB makes El Ideas (along with Schwa) the most cost effective Michelin restaurant/tasting menu in Chicago. That said, I was hungry when I got home. Maybe its my imagination, but it seemed like there was less courses than in the past. There just wasn't enough food this time. We will return!

Way off the beaten path, genuinely warm service, casually comfortable special evening ambiance and food that is playful and elegant ...all while you think it tastes like things you've had before, but realize you haven't had anything like this. We loved our special evening here. It started with a shot shared with the other diners and staff poured straight out of the bottle without chasers. The ability to BYOB made for the perfect occasion to crack open a hoarded bottle. All of the food was excellent, but our favorites were the soup, tartare and bread with liver mousse. My descriptions do not do any course justice, but instead of reading this review, get yourself to this restaurant! Chef and team are to be applauded for keeping it about the food and hospitality and not about glitter and hand waving. Thank you! An evening to remember.

Very unique experience with a fantastic staff!! The food makes this experience worth every penny but the staff sure does go above and beyond to make it worth even more. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Intimate quiet setting makes it also great for a special date night or a celebration[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I quite enjoy these off the beaten path, relaxed & inventive one Michelin star restaurants. Of course there's faults but I can count on one hand how many flawless restaurants I've been to. One fault is the price. Tbh the price is two or rarely 3 Michelin star territory. secondly they literally kick you out to prepare for the next seating. Parking can be tricky but doable. Loved the fact that twas byob & they offered to change glassware as well as produce aerators for wine or ice buckets for champagne. Biggest compliments go to inventive dishes such as the French fry frosty, pasta dish & the fact that you're able to literally go into the kitchen & converse with the chefs during service

This was a unique Michelin restaurant. Parking can be limited if you decide to drive. When you walk in, it's not luxurious or sumptuous looking, this makes you feel like you're at a friend's house. You're just hanging out, letting your friends cook for you. They took my coat and hanged it up for me. Seating is limited. Food was very creative, innovative, and tasty. The menu changes so it'll never be the same as the past year's except for the shake and fries course. That one will always stay on. Dress code is casual/dressy but at least make yourself look presentable. Definitely do better than a t shirt. The staff was very friendly and service was great.

Recently, my husband and I celebrated the anniversary of the day we met. We don't always mark the…read moreoccasion, but this year it was a milestone worth celebrating. We chose to dine at Girl & the Goat in Chicago, a restaurant we had never visited before. The acclaimed restaurant by renowned chef Stephanie Izard truly lived up to its stellar reputation! One of the first things we appreciated was the convenience of the restaurant's valet parking, located right by the front patio. At $22 for up to four hours and $26 for four to eight hours, the rates were quite reasonable for the area. As soon as the three of us stepped inside Girl & the Goat (we had made a reservation for 6:30 pm on a Friday), we were warmly greeted by one of the two friendly hostesses, and were promptly led to a comfortable four-top table with a banquette and two chairs along the wall. We felt fortunate to have one of the better tables in the dining room, as some of the others were positioned very close together. The nearby two-top tables, in particular, were quite small and placed only a short distance from ours. The restaurant's rustic-industrial décor was dark but trendy and stylish, the lively and vibrant vibe was warm and welcoming. However, I have to mention that it was really loud in the dining room, as guests seemed to be enjoying themselves and talked loudly.  It was hard to hear our server and the staff who delivered and explained the dishes to us.  Our server, Yazmin, was extremely friendly and attentive.  It was very sweet of her to wish us a happy anniversary both in the beginning  and at the end of the meal.  She also checked in on us several times during the evening.  Now, on to the food and drinks. I started with a glass of the NA Sparkling Rosé ($17), which was light, crisp, and quite refreshing. My husband ordered a glass of Le Colture Prosecco ($18), while our daughter chose the Sun Kid ($18). She enjoyed her drink, although she felt the portion was a bit small, as the glass was filled with a lot of ice that took up much of the space. Since the restaurant offers small to medium plates which are shareable, Yazmin advised us to get 5 to 6 dishes for 3 people to share.  We decided to get 5 savory dishes and 3 desserts to share: Savory dishes: - Chickpea Fritters ($20), goat yogurt, green chutney, sev spice crunch, pickled rhubarb. - Pan Roasted Halibut ($37), miso-Marcona almond butter, spring onion blueberry nuoc cham. - Roasted Pig Face ($28), sunny side egg, tamarind, cilantro, red wine-maple, potato stix. - Goat Empanadas ($24), smoked tomato-corn salsa, roasted poblano crema queso fresco. - Confit Goat Belly ($38), strawberry goat braise, smoked yogurt drizzle, pickled strawberries. Desserts: - Vacation, Please! ($16), toasted coconut crunch, lemon passion fruit sorbet, rum-soaked pineapple cake. - Berry Yummy Par-tea ($16), earl grey soaked sponge cake, yuzu curd, spiced blackberries. - Chocolate Basil Brownie Bash ($16), olive oil semifreddo, chocolate fennel crunch, basil granita. The meal was just phenomenal!  All the savory dishes were cooked perfectly with bold flavors; the meats were tender and full of flavors.  There were dishes that we normally would not have ordered if we saw them on menus of other restaurants.  Here, we tried them and were delighted that we did!  Our consensus is that Roasted Pig Face is our most favorite! It is everything we love in a comfort dish -- crispy on the outside, meltingly tender inside, and packed with rich, balanced flavor.  We will definitely order this again!  The Confit Goat Belly is a close second, with buttery, fall-apart meat and just the right balance of richness, acidity, and crunch. For dessert, "Vacation, Please!" is the one that we will always come back for. The toasted coconut crunch adds texture, the lemon passion fruit sorbet brings a refreshing tang, and the rum-soaked pineapple cake ties it all together with just the right amount of sweetness.  The other two desserts that we ordered were also very good.  The staff even brought out a scoop of Chocolate Ice Cream on the house, with two lit candles to celebrate our anniversary - a thoughtful touch that made the evening even more memorable.  This dessert spread was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. I'd like to mention that the restaurant added a 4% surcharge to the bill, which the customer may request to have the surcharge remove if you choose.  We let them keep it. We spent about two hours at the restaurant. The savory dishes came out very quickly, the pace probably was even a tad too fast, but the desserts made up for it by taking a longer time.  We did not mind as we were still full, and had time to enjoy the ambiance more.  I would say it is a restaurant great for group gathering and celebratory functions, but not so much for intimate romantic date night.  All in all, it was a wonderful dinner, we look forward to returning again.

We each only had a couple of bites left, but it definitely gave off an "okay, you're done now" vibe. Then he went to take the green beans (arguably the cult classic on the menu), and we still had more than half of them left. I had to stop him and say, "Yeah, we're not done with those. We paid for them. Can you put them in a to-go box instead?" For context, it was about 20 minutes before closing, but we ordered with plenty of time and were already eating with a "get in, eat, and get out" mindset. I've just never had someone at a restaurant start clearing plates while we were still actively eating--without asking, "Are you finished?" "Can I clear this?" or "Would you like a to-go box?" It was just... "You're done, these are leaving now." We were there for less than 45 minutes, left about 15 minutes before closing, and spent over $200 (not including the tip). With so many options in Chicago, I don't see myself coming back here.

The potato chips the dip came with were massive, fantastic, ruffle cut slices. Dip was good, trout roe ($18) gave it that extra pop of flavor. Our favorite dish of the night was definitely the beef tongue, so tender and balanced with textures and acidity. Mains were: Pappardelle (mushroom and carrot ragu) - I liked this best out of the three pastas, pasta was very tender. Cappelletti (beef, celery root fonduta) - felt a little under al dente in the sections where it was pasta pressed against pasta. The beef filling was on the average side, a simple, braised beef. Strozzapreti (duck bolognese + parm reggiano) - pasta was cooked perfectly, but the sauce leaned salty. Our half chicken arrived once we were finishing the pastas. Juicy and tender, with the fat/skin rendered out nicely. The sauce was good, but felt the chicken itself was lacking seasoning/flavor. The remaining duck ragu came in handy for extra saltiness. Finished the meal with the terrazzo cheesecake, and gelato scoop trio (roasted vanilla, peanut butter cookie dough brownie, and frutti di bosco sorbet). Cheesecake was light and wiggly, definitely contained some gelatin and cubes of strawberry jello; not too sweet. I enjoyed the peanut butter gelato the most, was very tasty mixed with the sorbet to make a little pb and j concoction. They also gave a little slice of chocolate cake as we were there for a celebration. Overall, appetizers were a hit, with the dessert coming in second, and entrees following thereafter. Was ~$240 w the included 25% service fee between 3 people. The food feels like 3.5 stars as the food was inconsistently good across courses, but the service/ambiance pushes it to a 4. Worth a try if you can get a reservation.

Hands down, and I don't say this lightly - Boka is one of my favorite restaurants in the country. I don't think it's too wild to say it may certainly be my FAVORITE restaurant in the US of A. This past week was my second pilgrimage to Boka, and I was stoked as ever. We ordered some non-alcoholic drinks, a few appetizers, and our entrees (duck and black truffle chicken). We had a nice discussion with the waiter and shared our enthusiasm and excitement with him. We shared that this was our return to my safe culinary haven, and I was prepared to be dazzled again. And dazzled I was. The chicken was phenomenal. The flavors were amazing and so poignant, and the tenderness of chicken made you really question if you were eating chicken at all. Everything was so moist and tender, and each bite was a ballet of flavor in your mouth. The duck, although not the star of the show, was hearty and delicious as well. The parsnip puree added an earthiness complexion to each slice of duck. The kicker of the night was when our server brought us our bill at the end. He gifted us complimentary menus of what we ordered that night, paired with a generous "Welcome Back" and the date of our wonderful evening. That small, but mighty, gesture encapsulates Boka in a nutshell. Fine dining, excellent quality of food, topped with service that was personally catered to make our meal enjoyable. It's about the experience, and every aspect of our experience at Boka was met with extraordinary marks. I'm dreaming already of round 3 at Boka. When? I don't know. But I'll be ready to tango again.

I ordered the bottle of champagne for mimosas with pineapple and orange juice and was pleasantly surprised by the $35 price since we're used to paying twice that back home. The food came out pretty quick and was hot and ready to eat. All of our food was good well and we all enjoyed our dishes. My only takeaway would be if guests ordered bottled water and/or champagne, the waitress should poor them into the glasses for you. From my experience, this is something that I thought was a norm. Overall, great place to eat!

Our meal was pretty mushroom heavy, but in a great way. Standouts were the Japanese eggplant and Japanese sweet potato. We loved the brulee top on the potatoes. And highly recommend getting one of the dips just so you can try the bread it comes with! So soft and fluffy but crisp on the outside. I've never had anything like it. The mushroom rice was also so unique with the house made sauces that really elevated the taste. Lastly, the basque cake!! Soo buttery and soft, we couldn't stop eating it. You really can't go wrong with any of the dishes I'm not familiar with the area, but it seemed more industrial and not too busy. And it matched the interior design of the space Service was wonderful and helpful !

I came here for my birthday with four friends, expecting a memorable dining experience. Unfortunately, it was memorable for all the wrong reasons. We were seated in a back room that felt like an afterthought--completely disconnected from the rest of the restaurant. It quickly became obvious why. We could barely get our server's attention all night, and service was painfully inattentive. The food was incredibly underwhelming, especially considering the hype and the price point. Our server insisted the chicken was a "must-have," but it arrived dry and flavorless. Aside from the bread and the eggplant spread, which were genuinely delicious, almost every dish disappointed. The cocktails were decent, but nothing I'd go out of my way to order again. What really pushed this experience from disappointing to infuriating was the billing. When I made the reservation, the restaurant charged a $200 reservation deposit, which I had no issue with. The problem? The server never bothered to apply that credit to our final bill. Because it was my birthday, my friends generously split the check and wouldn't let me pay, so none of us realized until later that we had been charged both the full bill and the additional $200 deposit. I honestly don't care whether this was the server's mistake or the restaurant's system. Either way, it's a serious operational failure. At this level, there should be safeguards in place to prevent something this basic from happening. My friends and I have dined at restaurants around the world--from neighborhood gems to Michelin-starred establishments--and we've never experienced a restaurant forgetting to apply a prepaid reservation deposit. For a restaurant that positions itself as a premier dining destination, this level of service, food quality, and operational incompetence is unacceptable. One good bread basket and an eggplant spread cannot make up for an evening of mediocre food, inattentive service, and a billing mistake that should never have happened. I left my birthday dinner feeling frustrated instead of celebrated. My friends and I certainly won't be returning, and I certainly can't recommend Maxwell Trading based on this experience.
