We live in New York, but my wife was in Chicago for a conference and had Swift & Sons on her list. She was going by herself, which she doesn't really love doing, so before dinner I shot the restaurant a quick message. Just said she had recently become a doctor and was a little nervous about eating alone. Didn't ask for anything, honestly I just figured it was worth mentioning. Well...they completely caught her off guard. She walked in and there was a menu waiting for her with a congratulations message on it. A little later they brought over a card that the staff had signed. She texted me right away because she couldn't believe it. I was surprised too. Nobody had to do any of that. The funny part is when we talked later, she barely started with the food. She kept talking about the people. How nice everyone was, how nobody rushed her, how comfortable she felt sitting there by herself. That's what stuck with her. The steak and sides were great (she already told me I have to go next time), but the hospitality is what I'll remember. It's easy to have a good meal. Making someone feel welcome is a different thing. Really appreciate everyone at Swift & Sons. You probably thought it was a small gesture, but it meant a lot to both of us.

This place was absolutely amazing. I went with some coworkers and I can truly say we ALL enjoyed our meals. Unfortunately we didn't take too many pictures. We got some seafood as apps and it was great. Bread was fantastic. Sides were great, the mushrooms especially were absolutely fantastic. Funny enough, I got the normal bone in rib eye and one of my coworkers got the dry aged. Both were amazing but I preferred the normal rib eye. We did medium rare and BOTH were so nice and juicy. Absolutely amazing. I would 100% come back here and recommend it. We had drinks, old fashion was great. Dessert espresso martini was fantastic and a true dessert version since it tasted sweeter. Great when having a conversation with company. Ambiance was top tier. Very fancy but also didn't feel the need to wear a suit. Staff was awesome and kept us well informed the entire time!

Classic steakhouse with an urban feel. The music is lively and the staff is amazing. It deemed like everyone in the house knew it was our anniversary and the manager not only greeted us but engaged us in conversation several times. The food was decent but not perfect. We enjoyed the complimentary bread and salmon tartare to start and those were both great. We also enjoyed a delicious and large bowl of piping hot French onion soup. The filet mignon was average and could have used a lot more seasoning. They were cooked perfectly though. I made mine a surf & turf and the 3 lonely scallops were tasty but abysmally small for a restaurant of this caliber. Dessert was so-so. We ordered ice cream and the Banoffee, which wasn't apie but more like a tart. They were definitely not the highlight but they weren't terrible. The cocktails were very good. We had the Gin & Jam, Rico Rico, and the watermelon taxi. If I venture back here I'd definitely try some different items but it's a solid steakhouse in a city full of stellar options.

Stunning restaurant, amazing food. Tough to judge the service because we were a table of 14 ordering off a set menu for our size. My only complaint for our dedicated server was I had to track him down when the entire party was seated and we were ready to place drink orders. Started with some excellent cocktails and a punchy Caesar salad - big fan. Entrees were a choice between the filet and a fish dish. Filet is one of the best I've ever had - perfectly cooked, buttery soft. I was very impressed. Sides were shared creamy mashed potatoes and green beans for every 3-4 people. Standard but good. Dessert was the Tavern cookie - a little too sweet for my liking but everyone seemed to enjoy it. Best part of the meal was requesting the magician to stop by and perform a few tricks - it was a little loud and hard to hear but his magic was very impressive! I'd go again and sit in the main dining room with a smaller group of people. Excited to try the rest of the menu. One last thing - order an Old Fashioned if that is your drink of choice. It's $20 but they will make them tableside on a cart and it's very high brow.

Celebrated my birthday at Swift & Sons Steakhouse, and it was the perfect choice for a special night out. The ambiance set the tone with it being elegant, warm, and inviting. The service was attentive and consistent throughout the evening, which made the experience even better! The lobster bisque stood out to me with its flavor and the presentation while the wedge salad was crisp and refreshing, it gave balance to the richer dishes. My favorite was definitely the scallops paired with potatoes and a flavorful sauce! They were cooked perfectly and seasoned!

Had reservations for a weekday evening. We were greeted and seated promptly. This was indicative of the service to come. Everyone was fantastic! I'd say some of the best service I've had in the area. The ambiance was also pretty great. The food, unfortunately, fell a bit flat for the price. There are plenty of steakhouses in the area that I'd go to again before returning here for steak. Nothing was explicitly wrong with the food, except the salad, but nothing was spectacular either. We started with the Caesar salad to share. It came out room temp and tasted off--like the egg had broken/separated. The lettuce also didn't look very fresh. We ended up not eating this dish. The bread basket was great! I got the 8oz filet with a side of the double baked potato. My friend also got an 8oz filet and she got the Mac and cheese. The steak was cooked to temp perfectly, but lacked seasoning. There wasn't any salt or pepper on it. The 3 sauces they served on the side definitely helped. The twist baked potato was amazing. I'd definitely get this again. My friend agreed on my assessment of the steak, but her Mac and cheese was a bit dry but overall "not bad". In the end, I'm curious about their seafood and whiskey hour so might return for those but probably wouldn't for a steak dinner.

Came here for a girl's night out and the ambience was on point. A great place to go to when you are all dolled up, makes you feel fancy! The food was good not spectacular for the prices. I've always wanted to try a beef Wellington; they had it on the menu and it was good. The tomahawk steak was very good and juicy. Good non alcoholic selections and good service!! I wouldn't return for the food but I would return for the vibes

Here we go again.... After about a dozen more visits since my last review, swift and sons is still holding it down. Steaks are consistent. I cannot think of a bad item I've had or even slightly disliked. Filet Mignon great! New York strip GREAT! Mushrooms are great. Also, my go to happy hour. My most recent visit I couldn't believe how great the happy hour menu for food was. Loved all of it. The devil eggs were amazing, salmon tartare was delicious and the lobster eclair was a powerful bite. Oysters are always great here! And let's not overlook the mini shell fish tower. Happy hour is from 4:30-6:00. Ample bar seating. Service is always great and beyond attentive and not overly attentive. Swift and sons is the one place I recommend to friends whom are in the Fulton market area or lower west loop.

Swift & Sons looks and feels like a high-end steakhouse. The ambiance is genuinely beautiful and classy, warm lighting, spacious, great layout. The staff were also super friendly and professional throughout the night. No complaints on the service side. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to the setting or the price tag. My steak was cooked to temp but it was totally bland. It didn't even have salt or nothing it was very weird. The sides were fine but unremarkable and didn't make up for the lack of the main dish. For the cost, I was expecting something more memorable, but instead it tasted like a generic steakhouse experience dressed up in lighting and good service. Would've preferred to spend my money anywhere else. If you're going for the vibes that's fine. However, the food was disappointing.

    Watermelon salad. Sooooooo good.
    Jess D.

Incredibly friendly and attentive service. I had a crab cake and watermelon salad. The watermelon salad will live in my memory forever. My partner had the wagyu burger and fries. The burger was as good as one would expect. The motif and ambiance were mid century with an industrial flair. Very relaxing, cozy and charming.

We visited Swift and Sons for our anniversary dinner! We were quite impressed with the special touches and level of service. After making the reservation, the restaurant reached out to my partner to ask for details so they could make it extra special. This included customized menus to take home, a signed card, and a "happy 4th anniversary" message written on our dessert. It's the little things that really elevated the experience! Now the food -- we are big steak eaters and we were very happy with our steaks. We both did New York Strips. Our server let us know that the menu was organized from most tender, which was super helpful. It was, in fact, super tender and perfectly cooked with a great crust. Great flavor and plenty juicy. We went with two sides to share but we probably would've been fine with just one -- we ended up taking half of each home. I thought the mushrooms especially paired very well with the meat. We did the deep dish cookie for dessert and it was a smaller dessert than some of the others (the cheesecake slice that our neighboring table got was HUGE) but we were honestly so full that it was a good size for us. It was warm and extra choclate-y, super good. In the future I'd be interested in the sweets cart, and I'm intrigued by the magic show option, but wasn't something we wanted to do based on our table location. Maybe next time! I also enjoyed the decor, overall vibe, and volume level. It was definitely busy but not too loud and still felt intimate. I was very happy with my partner's selection to spend our special evening here! Overall a great evening!

Came here for Restaurant Week 2026 and was not disappointed. No steak on the RW menu but I was still pleased with everything offered. The food was delicious and there was a good variety to select from. I liked that it was a 4 course offering (vs 3 courses at the 60$ price point.) The ambiance and design of the restaurant itself is so classy. Our server was also amazing and gave excellent recommendations to our table. We shall see if I return to try the regular menu at any point - I'm not a huge steakhouse person, but getting to try the food through RW has made me more inclined to come back.

Top 5 dead or alive! This place is absolutely amazing, for my money the best steakhouse in Chicago. The service was great, the food excellent, it's definitely my new go to special occasion restaurant. I can't recommend this place enough and make sure you bring your Amex lol.

A brief background; been in Chicago for about 15 years. Heard of Au Cheval back in 2015 or 16. Took a while to give it a shot and went; wait for 2 hours. Hmmmmm, didn't work out. Tried a second time 2 or 3 years later. Still didn't happen. Tried a third time when I had a friend visiting from overseas....wait time was just so long and just didn't have the 'desire' to wait that long. I think for the first time in my life, I had to kick myself as I wish I would have waited the very first time. Had my nephew visiting me from out of town. While I did want to take him to Au Cheval, with the limited time I had, I did not want to wait. I happened to go on their website and noticed that they now offer reservations. That was one of the most beautiful sights I had seen in a long time. Not only do I get to take my nephew out to Au Cheval, but I myself finally get to try the burgers here that have been the talk of the town and were rated the best burger in the United States of America for many years. My nephew absolutely devoured and loved the burger. He was in heaven. I cannot say I was not in heaven myself because the burger was absolutely epic, but that's not just what this review is about. This review is about one of the few joints in America that I have come across and that provided the level of attention to detail and went way above and beyond what I would have ever imagined in my wildest dreams to make this a memorable lunch. She had gone with my mother-in-law as well, so it was my mother-in-law, my nephew, and I. My mother-in-law is a vegetarian, and we figured we would go ahead and get the fries. What we did not know was that the fries are in beef tallow or have some beef seasoning (I forget), so in the end, she was not able to eat anything. My nephew and I just ordered each a burger. Our server proactively brought a house salad, which was vegetarian, and he said, "This is on the house. You guys enjoy the burgers." That, honestly, is a level of service that goes beyond usual service, but there was human empathy involved here. After a while, the head chef comes out, super friendly, and asks how everything was. He then says, "I heard you've been waiting 10 years over here, and I hope it was worth it." He made sure my mother and I were comfortable, and he made sure my nephew was comfortable. The level of service and care here was very special, and I personally appreciated it from the heart. For me, it was a memory built with my nephew and my mother-in-law, one that is going to stick with us for the rest of our lives. Not to mention, I am getting hungry right now, so I need to make a reservation and go down there tomorrow.

The order was ready ahead of schedule. Everything was fantastic. The peanut butter pie was a hit!!

This is the most overpriced and underwhelming restaurant in Chicago!…read more We did a wine tasting earlier this summer that was amazing so we thought we should to back for dinner and try their food. What a mistake! Our waiter was definitely on some sort of stimulent drug. He tried to rush us to order then didn't come back for a long time. We place the order and our food took around 45 min to an hour to get to our table. The waiter came to the table right when the food was dropped off before I could even take a bite. He never came back to the table to check on us. I got the steak frites (medium rare) and the steak was cold to the touch and raw inside. It was so gross that I couldn't eat any of it and told the bus boy to take it off my bill when he came to take our plates. He asked me if I wanted it wrapped up as it was completely untouched and I was like no, thanks. The frites were some dehydrated potato shoe string thing that was extremely over salted and inconsistent texture. Some were crispy and some were soggy. You have to buy bread (there are 2 options) at around $15 each. Luckily there are a ton of better restaurants in the area to get a good meal with decent service.
