Cafes El Magnifico is the place to go if you are in Barcelona and has craving for a good up of espresso drink. Barista is just so passionate about the coffee he is making so the wait for your drink might be a little longer but totally worth it. Cortado (1.5 Euro) was perfectly prepared has such good balance in taste and with such silky milk froth. There is basically no seating available at all, so come to Cafes El Magnifico just for a quick drink or have it to go. read more

I came here for a quick coffee. Very cool Ambiance. There is a grind in store. Service was a little bit lacking. Very slow and disorganized. The coffee more than made up for it. It was a good cup. There's not much seating other than a bench outside and a small bar with a few stools. Don't plan on bringing the laptop here. read more

Stumbled on to this coffee shop while roaming around Barcelona. I noticed streams of people going there and decided to forgo Starbucks which is nearby. This was a good decision. The barista is very skilled compared to Starbucks staff. The coffee was excellent. read more

I wanted to try the "MAG" spot that's nearby their main storefront but found it to be closed. Given it's proximity to Catedral del Mar, it's no surprise that there's a perpetual queue here. As many reviews have mentioned, there's virtually no seating here and the shop itself is small. Given how warm it was over the few days we were there, we weren't able to get a full cup of cold brew. We had an espresso sized cup of it, and what we did have was good. A good spot if you're in the area and can't make it in to their "MAG" shop. read more

F'n awesome coffee roaster. I'm a pretty snobbish coffee drinker and this place delivered it for me. Yes, they take long. No they don't have many seating --- but for anybody believe "no cup of coffee is worth a wait" Starbucks was right around the corner. One things I have to warn you is that--Barcelona is not prepared to serve cold drinks. I ordered their cold brew -- I got it in paper cup. The condensation started to make the cup soft and it was not the best way. Also the cold brew was 3euro but they give you like 5oz at most. After a few more experiences with them, I would not recommend going here if you want to drink (on site) anything but an espresso beverage and don't have a lot of extra time on your hands. It might be fine for tourists or others who are more interested in learning about these brew methods and the experience itself (served in wine glasses!), but as a local, I just want to to taste the beans they sell before I buy a whole bag to take home, especially since the beans are pretty expensive, and they're not set up for that. Yes, they have an Aeropress, and a syphon, and Hario equipment and Chemex. And they know how to use them well. But they make it a very long theatrical production. If you order an espresso, and the clerk goes directly to the espresso machine and you'll have your drink a minute later. If you order coffee using any other method, they have to assign it to another employee who may or may not get around to it right away. The person making your coffee then very lovingly, carefully weights the exact amount of beans. They stand around the kettle waiting for it to almost-boil, measuring the temperature frequently. Then you watch as they rinse the filter with hot water, and wait for the several rounds of pouring/filtering (if it's a Chemex; other methods are equally slow). I know measuring the beans correctly and getting the right temperature and all those steps are necessary to bring out the best flavor of these high-quality beans. But I do this process at home and it takes 1/4 of the time. If they run a business doing this, you'd think that they'd have more practice/staffing/equipment to do it in less than 20 minutes. I tried ordering two cups of coffee at once with different beans to compare them... I don't know if it's because they only have one of each type of brewing equipment or if they're just short on staff who are trained to use it, but they can only do one at a time. You're committing to sitting around their tiny store for 40 minutes for two rounds of coffee while watching many other customers enter, get served, and leave. So if you have all afternoon to sit and watch coffee brewing methods, by all means, enjoy! But if you just want a good quality American cuppa, sadly you'll have to look elsewhere (and then tell me when you find it!), or buy an Aeropress and make it at home. read more

Delicious coffee right across from a Starbucks in El Born. It's the closest thing to Blue Bottle that I found in Barcelona. Everyone in here was very friendly and very serious about making good coffee. They also have milk alternatives for those that like that kind of thing. read more

Barcelona? The best. Tapas, pinchxo, sangria? The best. Cortado from Cafes El Magnifico? SO the best. 4 days in Barcelona, and 4 mornings at this amazing spot. Right in the Born, just north of the Basilica de Santa Maria de Mar, I spotted it quickly and easily. The coffee was incredible, and the tiny biscotti/cookie was perfect to dip into the foam of my drink while wandering. Excellent selection of single origin coffees and a variety of methods to prepare a drink for you. You can select the beans you would like to drink from a book that tells you where they were grown and what they taste like. They do their own roasting, which allows for higher quality and excellent taste. Extremely friendly staff. I like my coffee black, without anything added....to really taste the flavor. I had a difficult time in my travels outside of San Francisco finding coffee that was delicious, until I stumbled upon this lovely place!! Most likely the best coffee in Barcelona!! read more

Being a lover of coffee I was excited about trying the coffee at this location while in Barcelona. Come to find out I had good reason to be excited! I ordered a Espresso and a Chemex. The amount of different coffee options they had available made me nervous that the bean wouldn't be fresh but come to find out the have a very high turnover. My Chemex was done right and I appreciated the fact that the man that made it took a sip himself to insure quality. The espresso was also excellent. I've always maintained that coffee in Europe tastes better. I finally figured out, it's not the coffee itself, it's the milk. The most serious coffee shop I've ever been to. This isn't the type of place where you get a quick grab and go cup of coffee, only to be on your way to the sights of Barcelona. You need to invest a bit of time here, but you'll be rewarded by the staff. I sprung for a chemex serving, so the gentleman behind the counter had me select a bean, which he had me smell and chew a little after he ground it by hand. After he brewed it, he had me taste test it, in a wine glass I might add, after he had taste tested it. All the meanwhile he was taste testing every espresso being made by the other store employee. He must not have been pleased, as he was yelling at the guy in Catalan after every taste. He ordered the staff member to completely throw away and remake at least 5 espresso shots while I waited for my chemex; it was an incredible experience. read more

El Magnifico takes coffee seriously and is known to have the best coffee in Barcelona. The baristas are solicitous and friendly. And the cortado I had there has been the smoothest and most delicious that I've had. Even the espresso tasted good without the wimpy sugar I added to it. This place was a block away from the first apartment we rented in Barca. I still remember first morning when I stumbled in jet lagged, hangover and in terrible need of coffee just to find out they don't take VISA. Barista working there was just wonderful, I guess she realized how bad I needed my coffee and offered me to bring the money later. It was a nice gesture that you don't see often these days, especially in the most touristy part of the city. Ever since I've been back a good dozen times, and coffee is always fantastic. Besides brewing on site they also sell beans, a great variety of them actually. I took few bags home, and can't see myself buying it anywhere else.
