    Jibarito de Bistec

We have been here a couple of times and enjoyed our food, the portions are enough to share and the food is fresh. I love the sorrullos didn't take a picture because I ate it so fast. Service is fast and very nice! It's a small place but comfortable

As always, jibarito was absolutely delicious, they put a lot of steak in there, the plantains were thin and crispy, which is how I love it. Service is always good here, it's such nice quiet spot.

Had a bistec jibarito and a chicken empanada, both were absolutely delicious. The service was also awesome, the gentleman at the counter was super attentive and even brought out bread and butter and different sauces for us to try. For the uninitiated, a jibarito is a Puerto Rican sandwich where instead of bread, there are flattened fried plantains. There's lettuce, tomato, and garlic butter too. You can get it with steak, pork, fried chicken, shrimp, and octopus. It's definitely on the greasy side but oh so satisfying! The chicken empanada was also really good. A deep fried pocket with shredded seasoned chicken breast inside! Definitely recommend this place.

This small mom and pa place have the most delicious Puerto Rican food that reminds me of my mom and dad's cooking. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed!

I took my friend for lunch I ordered mofongo and carne frita, and she ordered jibarito huge portion of my plate, missing the chiicharron and the garlic on the Morongo. The caldo brot was no flavor. They made a real spicy sauce so good

I've been wanting to try this place for a while; I love a good jibarito and this is one of the closest places to our house. I called in my order, so I can't comment much on the interior. It's not huge, but there was a man there playing live music. My order was ready and well packed when I arrived. I ordered the jibarito with shrimp and garlic. To be honest, it was good, but not my favorite jibarito. The flavors were good, but the shrimp must have been marinating in a garlic oil because the whole bottom of my sandwich was swimming in oil and the thing fell completely apart the moment I picked it up. I ended up eating it with a fork. As garlic shrimp dish, I give it high marks. As a sandwich, less so and anm glad they provided plenty of napkins. They have plenty of other dishes and next time, I'd probably opt for something else. They don't have a website, but deliver through the major places.

This is a nice spot on the corner . This meal was packed with flavor and taste. Warning : if you're opposed to heavily garlic dishes , steer clear of this. The aroma hits you in the face -- a pleasant aroma. This was my first time having the Malta drink. Personally, I am not a fan. Can't wait to try the Cubano next time!

Amazing!!! And generous servings look how much lechon is in this sandwich! Delicious definitely will be back

This was the best Jibarito de lechón & rellenos de carne that I've had. From the flavor, freshness, portion to price point. Everything was spot on. Service was incredible as well. I've tried pretty much all the popular places here in Humbuldt Park. But this hidden gem, was better than all the other places I've been. Come and check this place out. You won't regret it. Update: Just came back & tres the jibarito de bistec. It was just as delicious as the lechón one. Steak nice & tender too.

Great place in the neighborhood. The food was good and staff was friendly! One of the better places I've had Puerto Rican food in Chicago.

Meat was very dry (although it didn't taste as bad as it looked) and the plantain mash wasn't very flavorful and lacked the right texture.

We parked in the neighborhood and walked around a bit and I like how the people really celebrate their culture here, with all of the flags, decorations, huge murals, etc... There is an exodus of the younger generation leaving the island to go elsewhere, mainly the US mainland...So, when you find a place like Papa's, which is very authentic, come back here, again and again...I think the mainly Puerto Rican clientele shows how legit their flavors are. We started off with the following: - chicken salad, which was full Of flavor and very meaty - the steak Jibarito with garlic butter sauce was incredibly great, this was an awesome sandwich and I'll probably order double meat next time - Maduros - very sweet plantains and could be a dessert - pollo chon (chicken lechon), flavored just right, juicy, tasty and pretty huge The service was inviting and thank you Pana, who was talking with us as we were waiting for them to open their doors for lunch.... Hope to make it to Puerto Rico one day!!

Unfortunately, I left really disappointed. I ordered an alcapurria, pescado frito, a pastel, and a jibarito with rice. The alcapurria came out first and was so hard I could barely even cut into it. Since it was lunchtime, I wasn't expecting something that seemed like it had been sitting around, but beyond the texture, it was also really lacking in flavor. I figured maybe it was just an off item or an off morning, so I was still excited when the pescado frito and pastel came out. Unfortunately, those were disappointing too. Everything just lacked the flavor, sazon, and that feeling of food being cooked with love that I'm used to when eating Puerto Rican food. The jibarito was mediocre and didn't have much meat, and the rice was dry with large clumps that weren't even separated. I really wanted to love this location because I've had such good experiences at the Fullerton restaurant, but the quality and flavor just weren't comparable. Based on this visit, I wouldn't come back to the Belmont location. I'l stick with the original on Fullerton.
