I'll start by saying... this is a must visit! I came here on a Saturday morning with a friend for brunch. This location, out of the two, has brunch and cocktails. The other location doesn't. Upon arrival, we were seated quickly. Unfortunately, it took us a while to be serviced. Other parties were being served and given food before us. It took for one of the servers to notice and immediately assigned someone to our table. I ordered the Jibarito pollo with a side of rice and peas. I also ordered a cocktail. The food didn't take too long and was hot and fresh when it reached our table. The chicken wasn't too big nor too chewy or dry. The plantain was cooked perfectly. On the way out, I ordered two beef empanadas and a slice of tres leches to go. The sauce given with the empanadas was sooo good. I need an entire jar of that. Santiago was amazing and so sweet as our sever. This place is the 2nd of the 2 locations that opened in 2019. The inside has beautiful cultural murals that are pretty and fun to see and includes a sign w Chicago on it. The grilled octopus Jibarito was good with lots of meat on it. The vegetarian Jibarito was good but just a little salty for me on the vegetables. I can ask them to hold on the salt next time. The plantains came out nice and crispy and hot. Free street parking. Everytime I come here i give them a chance and I am amazed at how skimpy they are on some things with their prices. Their alcapurrias and papa rellenas always have NO MEAT inside at all! This place just never gets old man... just spectacular. A part of me is glad I don't live nearby or else I would be here multiple times a week and more than likely have heart problems (just kidding). But definitely love this place. We came here with a group of 5 and it was kind of busy yet they still sat us pretty quick, that was great start. We ordered Mofongo Guisado y Bistec Encebollado, with 3 empanadas (bistec, chicken, guava crema). Roughly $50 w/tip. All fantastic, all top tier, all I would order again. If you have never been to any of the Jibaritos y Más locations, you are really missing out. This place reminded me that I need to find a local/more close to home Puerto Rican joint. I was here yesterday on Sunday afternoon. The wait time was not bad. All other tables got bread except us. I'm not sure why. The roast pork was very dry and the rice and gondules was old The gondules was so shriveled I thought they were raisins I didn't get the salad so I opted to have the beans on the side. The beans were terrible. It was like they put honey ham in there to season it. They should not be sweet, but should have a smoky flavor instead. Will not be going back again for sometime. read more

I've been missing Puerto Rico lately and had a craving for some Maduros. We chose to come here since it had good reviews and seemed authentic and I'm so glad we did! Everything was absolutely delicious, my jibarito was perfectly cooked and so fresh. The arroz con gandules had so much flavor and the maduros hit the spot. It was so good my husband and I immediately decided we're going to go back to Puerto Rico this winter for a visit and to escape the Chicago cold. I remember when this place had like 4 tables. It looks like they purchased more space, knocked down the walls and now it's a full size restaurant with a cocktail bar! The food has not changed. Have given this establishment many tries, with more disappointment over satisfaction. This was the last time we will eat from here. 1. The lechon and rice were so salty that it was inedible. I love salt. In fact, I tend to add extra salt. This was a whole different level though and we couldn't eat it. 2. The other issue was that for the 3 lechon plates we ordered we asked for green salad, but we were given potato salad. None of us eat potato salad. Tried it though and yep....just salt. Checked the receipt just to be sure we didn't order it wrong and I did in fact order green salad for all 3 plates. 3. The pastele had a great texture, but again, holy salt!! Never had a spicy pastele before either. Love spicy food, but wasn't expecting that. Only item that tasted good was the maduros. I came in to have lunch on a Wednesday afternoon around 12:30. I was seated right away as they were not that busy. I ordered a cafe con Leche, which went perfectly with the bread and butter they give you. The food came out about 15 minutes after I ordered and it was piping hot and fresh, the service was great, friendly staff! The ambience is cool to the murals on the walls are beautiful. They do have a bar so after you eat, you could always have a couple of drinks or coffee and hang out. I don't live in the city so every time I come in time, I make sure I stop by here for some authentic Puerto Rican food, and it never disappoints . I have given this place two times enough for me to muster up even gathering words about this place. First of all the staff is rude and has serious attitude. I ordered the shrimp soup with noodles and vegetables. A side of white rice and an acapuria. Everything started off great, the smell the initial taste but when I bit into a shrimp to see if they cleaned it properly there was a solid black line of shrimp feces not cleaned off of the shrimp so I checked every single shrimp and every single shrimp was not cleaned properly. I ate a little bit of the caldo (soup) because I was sick but couldn't stop thinking about the dirty shrimp so I tossed it and finished the acapuria and some of the rice. This place is usually on point. I'll never order shrimp soup again that's for sure. I'm Puerto Rican and grew up in Humboldt Park and this WAS my go-to spot for shrimp soup...Not anymore. I ordered a dozen pasteles. 1. an authentic Puerto Rican does not use pique in their pasteles, 2. They were completely wrapped in aluminum foil and when cooked it gets stuck to it. It should be wrapped in a large piece of banana leave to prevent sticking and provide the flavor into the pasteles. 3. Then folded in a special paper for pasteles. 4. The flavor was all over the place, some pieces were saltier than others. 5. The restaurant should have asked if you wanted spicy hot or regular pasteles and say, not to add salt when cooking it because we bought them raw to be cooked at home. Well I used to think Ponce near my house was the best but after I experienced this place wow this is a very bougie but inexpensive Puerto Rican restaurant on Harlem and school. My roommate Josh Ortiz I suggested and recommended this place since he's Puerto Rican. The Rihanna's de Papa was very fresh it didn't feel like it was sitting at a heating lamp for two bottles in regards to the boat the feelings inside and the potatoes itself. I ordered the bistec with onion which was cooked very fresh with the order of the traditional Puerto Rican rice with chickpeas and that look and tasted fresh with the compliments of a fresh lettuce and tomato salad. Service was surprisingly very fast less than 10 minutes. I was thinking I was going to wait an extra 20 minutes but wow that was fast. I usually go for a coco Rica for a drink or Malta India but this time I went for kola champagne. It was good although I should have gone back to my traditional knowledge of Malta India for Copa Rico for coconut drink but it wasn't bad. Ambience was very busy and I guess this is why I did not discover this place until now I always thought ponce was the best but it looks like I got to invite my Puerto Rican friends over here when I have to treat them out for a good homemade Puerto Rican dining experience. What surprises me that they also serve breakfast and they have french toast which I didn't think that was Puerto Rican? I would probably come for the breakfast as well to taste your quality.that was why a 4 stars. Quality or freshess of the food as well as the delivery that was surprisingly very quick I was also surprised price-wise that it wasn't too expensive especially since I saw chicken or Pollo frito cost more than bistec which is beef. My favorites are jibaritos de pollo (chicken) or bistec (steak) or camarrones (shrimp)/pulpo (octopus) mixto, maduros (sweet plantains), relleno de papa (meat stuffed potatoes), arroz con gandules (rice n peas). When I originally started coming here they didn't sale alcohol now they do with great options. The caprinina is excellent. There was also a small seating area now its larger. Parking is street and can be challenging but people are always circulating in and out. The fish filet is also very good it's not dry and again everything fresh and hot. The service is decent they give you your space to eat and dine so you may have to wave them down if they are busy. I suggest trying everything you like you wont be disappointed. read more

Came here as a group of 5 people. My husband and I were the first ones from our group in and they seated us within 5 minutes (even waiting for the other 3 to show up, which is nice because I know some places won't seat you unless your full group is there). They give you glasses with ice at the table and a carafe with water. The menu has many good options and it took us a while to pick what we wanted but ultimately decided on the carne frita plate and the carne guisada plate. My husband got arroz con gandules with his carne frita while I opted for white rice and beans with my carne guisada. My carne guisada was nice and tender and came with a good portion of pepper slices and olives in the stew. The beans were okay. My husband really enjoyed his carne frita and found his rice just okay too. He loves my Abuela's arroz con gandules so he's forever comparing any place to hers. A notable mention: the jibarito burger that my sister ordered. I took a bite of this and wow was it good! It's 2 burger patties with cheese, mayoketchup, a fried egg, and arugula. I personally feel like regular lettuce would be better than arugula on this but that's because I'm not a huge fan of arugula. I will say that one thing about most PR restaurants is that you can't expect super fast and amazing service. It did take a bit for our server to come over and ask for drink orders when our full party got there. Food doesn't all come out at the same time (it was staggered, not by much, but I don't like having to wait for someone else's plate before I start digging in). You're not really going to get a check in when eating; really only going to see the server again when they're bringing you your check. Also something to note, we were automatically charged 20% gratuity for party of 5. I get it, people are probably not tipping well but used to the 8 or more typically. Overall, would eat here again or order it as takeout if I'm craving PR food and Abuela isn't available ;) read more
