This place was recommended to me by a friend and I finally got a chance to try it out. Solid place for tasty pupusas and other Central American goodies. The prices and portions are fair and generous. I also tried the campero dish and I only wish the rice and chicken had a little more seasoning and flavor. However, I ordered through ubereats and food was delivered on time and still hot. This place is gooood. Pupusas con todo (refried beans, cheese and pork) Papusas revuelutas (pork and cheese) was all rocking! I am not usually a big fan of chorizo but I really like the mexican type of chorizo much better. We ordered for delivery an International which included scrambled eggs, tomatoes and onion, chorizo, refried beans, crema and plaintain was absolutely phenomenal for starters. I also enjoyed their Maracuya (Passion Fruit juice) was very tasty and my daughter loved it as well. Ordered takeout on Sunday and it was wonderful. I tried the Desayuno Salvadoreno ($12), which included 3 pupusas revueltas and a small coffee. The pupusas are stellar: filled with just the right amount of pork, bean and cheese, and served with a crunchy cabbage slaw and spicy red sauce. Together with the coffee, this was a filling brunch combo at a good value. When I walked through the dining room, I saw many patrons enjoying authentic lunch plates which included generous portions of meat, rice and beans. Their milkshakes seem to be very popular too! A friend told me about this place. So far I've only had the cheese papusas. So delicious! Eat them hot because they're rubbery and not as delicious if you microwave them. My favorite side "condiment" is this pickled radish that they make. I think it's called chirmol? I could be wrong. Nevertheless, delicious food! And the smoothies are great too. Fresh fruit for the win! It's a little frustrating that no one speaks English when trying to place an order, but they do try to understand and are very nice. I love good Salvadorian food and El Nuevo Centro Americano is a great find. I have ordered from here several times and the food is always great. Our go to are the pupusas which are a traditional Salvadorian dish. They are a thick cornmeal tortilla filled with a variety of ingredients. My favorite are the pupusas revueltas which are a mix of cheese, chicharrón, and beans. They are delicious! My husband normally picks the queso ones which are stuffed with a mixture of cheeses. The pupusas come with a tomato sauce and pickled cabbage slaw. Mix them together and put a heaping on the pupusas. Trust me, you won't regret it. My reason for giving them 4 stars is because the delivery is SO SLOW. I ordered food and 830 and it didn't get here until 1015. It always makes me wonder if it is worth the wait... until I start eating and then I remember why I always order from here. If they improve delivery, I'd definitely give them five stars. read more

Couldn't be more happy to see that they not only did that, but they added a container filed with ice and sent cups for us to have ice cold sodas! One of the first times we've ordered from a place and they did something super kind without us asking or charging more. The food was also great, we all ordered today's special, which was a bistec, came w/ rice, beans, chirmol, sopa de res, and a can of soda. (Of note, it is listed as "El centro Americano" in GrubHub) -Grilled chicken (item 31, Pollo a la parilla): this js not grilled but more of semi-oily pan-fried chicken with soft, squishy skin (see pictures). I assumed I got the wrong order and then saw another picture of the same chicken. It also did not have any flavor. Don't recommend. -Broiled 12oz steak (item 29, Palomilla asada): bland. Don't recommend. -Quesadilla Salvadorena (item 113): delicious and the only good thing about my first order that made me want to give this place another try so that I could order this again. Highly recommend. -Fried beef steak (item 44, Bistec encebollado): the onions gave the steak better flavor than item 29(rated above) but it was still rather bland compared to usual Hispanic flavors. - Red snapper in garlic sauce (item 51. Pargo rojo al ajillo)- good flavor and large portion. Likely had that flavor because I explicitly asked for a lot of garlic in the comment section. Would recommend. Overall I would like to give it a 2.5. Although the quesadilla Salvadorena is very good, the majority of the food has been, not only underwhelming but, subpar. Just for service They didn't have elite which is the first picture you see on yelp. They did not have the drinks on their menu. I asked a few questions about the items on the menu and couldn't decide what to order and the server said let me know when you're ready. Which is fine but when I was ready another lady came to take my menu but not my order and ignored me while I sat at the bar. I tried to get her attention twice. Finally the lady who made my lull came back to check on me but by then i was very uncomfortable. I paid for my drink and left. I don't know if the food is good. Came for lunch. It's was a good price the especial was a small soup and a main entree for $8.00. Soda drinks were a little pricey $2.50 for a can of soda. Came here bc it's 10-15 minutes from Newark airport. Had a hankering for some salvi food., I was not disappointed! I absolutely love the pupusas revueltas we asked them to add loroco and they did and they were amazing! We went around 11 am on a Friday and it was empty. The owners came and said hello and the server was a sweet young girl that was very attentive. We loved the ensalada drink soooo full of fruit!!!!! We had the plátano relleno for dessert and it was huge!!!!! I wish I would have taken pictures but we were hungry and it was too good. Next time. But would def recommend. Would def come early lunch bc it started to get reaaaaally busy around 12 pm and the food does take a bit but it's bc its all made fresh so def worth it. Oh! It was kind of hard to decide what to eat since I've never ordered from this restaurant and I was really starving. So to be safe, I ordered the chicken and the sour cream sauce with rice and beans, and two orders of chicken and rice with beans. Delivery was on time. The chicken with rice and beans wasn't what I expected. It was boneless chicken breast and not the regular chicken breast which was kind of weird since there is an option for boneless breast and I know I didn't pick that. My chicken with the sour cream sauce was ok. I couldn't really finish it because I wasn't really fond of the taste. Overall, I don't know if I'll order from this place again. OMFG I dont leave reviews about anything but I had to about this experience. Ok so I ordered the shrimp and garlic sauce with yellow rice, plantain patty, pupuas and tres leche cake. So everything was delicious and hot my only complaint was that my pupuas didn't have the stuffing that I requested. I wanted the pork and cheese stuffing and got plain. Food is great and I never had a problem with this restaurant prior to now.. Delivery service today was terrible to the point where I had to leave my house walk to the car to get the food.. Only to discover he's park on my side of the street inches from my house.. Now I'm upset at his laxzyness to do his job and question him saying sir if your in front of my house why not bring my food to the door like your supposed to?? Oh I thought your house # was 49 + it's cold outside. Really when I told you repeatedly on the phone after trying to help find my house that it's 47.. The it's cold outside statement tell's me he definitely did not leave his car and only got out once I informed him I was outside.. Anyway called the restaurant to complain just to discover no one there spoke English & the 1 who the claimed did wasn't available.. Now I understood that he spoke very little English.. However it's no excuse if the other delivery workers can do there job so could he.. ( just pure laziness) Finally not saying this to be rude.. However this restaurant sould seriously consider hiring more bilingual workers.. Yes as I said before food is great, but great food alone doesn't help a restaurant reach it's full potential.. I have ordered twice from them in the last week and the food has been outstanding! The portions were very generous and the prices are hard to beat. Their service was excellent, the driver accidentally forgot my drink and called me right away and drove back right away to deliver it.
