I ordered several pupusas and the calabacita relleno from here through Uber Eats. Prices were very reasonable and the food arrived still very hot. My pupusas filled with cheese beans and loroco were very filling and the calabacita platter was the same. I definitely preferred the taste of the pupusas as the calabacita needed a strong sauce for taste so I ended up using the red and green salsas from the pupusas. However, even though I marked for utensils the restaurant did not provide me any. I don't know if that was a glitch in communications between Uber Eats and the restaurant, but it made it a pain to go hunting for plastic silverware at a quiet hotel. read more

I've only gotten pupusas from here. I love them! It's definitely my most frequent spot in Perth Amboy. I imagine everything else on the menu is very good because every time I go in to pick-up my order it is packed. They seemed to have re done the inside a little. It looked very shack like before, now it looks like there's more life in there. I would give them a hirer rate but the times I call to place my order the girls laugh at my accent. I do speak Spanish, but it seems like if it's not of their decent an unusual accent is laughable? Also I don't sit in to eat either because I get really weird looks from everyone since I look like a white girl, and honestly I rather not sit somewhere to eat and have a weird vibe around me since I look one way and speak another. As a Salvadoran in Perth Amboy, this is my go to spot for my pupusa and atol de elote fix. Since my mom moved back to El Salvador to enjoy retirement this place has been the closest I get to my mother's meals she used to cook for me as a kid. The pupusas de revueltas and de loroco are fantastic. Best atol de elote in my opinion. I would suggest anyone who would like to try their pupusas to call ahead to place your orders as they do tend to be a bit busy most of the day so a call in advance saves you from waiting a bit. read more

So I used to work w a guy from El Salvador and his mom would make me papusas every Friday night. He moved on to a new company about a year ago, so I hadn't had them since. But today I saw a guy had them in his lunch box and when he heated them up I caught a whiff. That was it. I had to go find them. As a gringo it's easy to find Mexican joints. But papusas are a specialty. So the search was on. Now when I searched Yelp they showed 15 restaurants, but only 3 actually had papusas so be careful. El Shaday was the closest to my house so I went here. It was very clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They had a nice display of hot foods right at the counter. The menu was just the right size too. I ordered 4 papusas, 2 pork 2 chicken all w cheese. 2 would have been enough for one meal. They came with the authentic salsa and slaw too. The whole meal was excellent!! I had to wait 5-10 minutes for them, but that's because they made them to order. It was well worth the wait. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. El Shaday is an El Salvadorian restaurant. I chose this restaurant because I wanted to try some authentic pupusas and tamales which are also El Salvadoran cuisines. The pupusas were awesome. However, the tamales were below average. I was expecting it to be wrapped only in banana leaf but instead it was wrapped more in aluminium foil and little bit of banana leaf. The outer core which was made of mashed corn was tasteless. The inner core (chicken) had some flavour though. One of my Hispanic colleague later said that the tamales are not very delicious and she personally does not like it. So I'm not sure if it's just this restaurant or the tamales in general are tasteless. The cabbage pickel that was given was super delicious. It's kept in a big jar in every table with no limitations for quantity. The green sauce was very spicy though. The staffs here are very attentive and polite. I paid with my credit card and I was surprised that they did not even ask me to sign the bill for the tip which I was waiting to pay!! read more
