Of all the Mexican restaurants in San Angelo, this would not be high on my list to visit again - except that they are absurdly close to my friend's house and they have a ramp and well-painted sidewalks, which are crucial to her mobility. She dove into the nachos with beef and sour cream. They looked good, but i would have asked for veggies on mine: lettuce, onion, tomato, etc. I was craving hard shell tacos like a beast. The server had my back and delivered an awesome plate of tacos, i really enjoyed them. The beans were very average and the rice was sad, but that's not what i came for. The restaurant itself was, i dunno how to describe it. It was clean enough, but it has a food court vibe: eat and run, we're not here for the atmosphere. The service was outstanding! I wish i remembered my server's name, but everyone on staff was motivated, friendly, and helpful. (tip your servers, folks!) The salsas were really, really good. I would have happily taken some home to eat with eggs in the morning... or just a spoon. read more

A far overdue visit! Heard so many good things about this place and it's legit Mexican American menu. The steak bites always come up when people talk about this place. Now I can see why that is. My wife and I came in on a Wednesday night about 530 for the first time. It was not super busy at all and we got seated fast. Orders were taken quickly as well. I got the famous original steak bites with a choice side salad. Wife got the daily special Guiso plate with refried beans and Mexican rice and homemade flour tortillas. The meal also came with a complementary plate of refried beans and red and green salsa (with a kick) and chips. It didn't take long for the plates to come out and my were the portions generous! My steak tips were fantastic. A perfect medium and very well seasoned! Melt in your mouth tender! My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Guiso and the super tender diced beef in a rich brown gravy. Laura the GM was very kind to us and gave us a little background on the business with it being our first time there. 16 years in business! I see why that's so! I'm coming back again soon to try the same plate I got but 'El Paisano' style with added grilled onions, peppers, and tomatoes. read more

Glenda and I are in San Angelo to see our new great niece. Do I get to pick an Asian restaurant for us to eat lunch at? Absolutely not! Glenda says we are having Mexican food. El Paisano had great ratings so we decided to give it a try. I almost filled up on the excellent hot sauce and chips. Lots of the reviews talked about how good the steak is, so let's try that. Steak àla Mexicana has always been my favorite, so we both ordered it. It was absolutely fantastic, definitely the five star food that everyone had talked about. The steak was grilled a perfect medium rare, and the vegetables were grilled to perfection. Absolutely one of the best meals we have had in a while. There was lots of food so we definitely had leftovers. Next time we are in San Angelo, we will definitely come here again. read more

I've been here several times with friends. My friends are regulars, so when I arrive before they do, I just say their names, and I am seated at their regular table. The food is good. I have gotten the Mexican Dinner several times, most recently, I had the Tacos Mexicanos. Those were great. They came with rice and beans, but honestly, just the tacos would have been enough. Their chips and salsa are great, and they come with a variety of salsas. I look forward to Friday evenings here with my friends. They usually show up at about 5:15, and by the time we leave, the place is packed! read more

I was in town for business and took a client out for lunch. He brought me to El Paisano and we both ordered the Pork Chop lunch dish. When they brought the food out we looked at each other cause there were three pork chops on each dish. Food was cooked to perfection and the pork chops were very tasty and tender. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The vibe here during lunchtime was very loud, but the food makes up for it. read more

This is one of my fav small town restaurants- home made food. Service is always pleasant- very nice staff but that might just be the small town feel. The steaks and chicken fried steak or chicken fingers have been my favorite as they remind me of all the food growing up here. You can't get food like this anywhere else. Plus the prices are thankfully still reasonable as it seems prices are going up everywhere. You get a real good meal for what an extra large combo costs you at a major food chain. Plus, they give you complimentary salsa and a salsa bean dip w chips - my kids devour it before our food gets in. The ambiance is small and feels country- I personally love it. True Gem San Angelo! ordered takeout twice. You pull up to the drive-through window and no one ever comes to the window so you have to call to get your food both times I've been there ordered the Mexican dinner. They forget my tacos so I have to get out of the car and go inside and wait in line for someone to bring me my tacos. on several other occasions, I've paid and they tried to keep my change without asking and as long as Coinstar is still available, I want my change all of it. These bad however, limited to the Sherwood Way location for some reason horrible service. read more

Drove by El Paisano numerous times. It really didn't stick out till after we went to a "Hometown Favorite" that was really boring. We kept seeing that El Paisano always had people there. We stopped by yesterday. Greeted immediately, sat down, took our drink order as we sat down. Drinks came to the table with complimentary chips, salsa, and beans with a lil bit of meat. I was happy just with that. Food came, son with have with the tostadas, wife was very happy with the chicken fajitas, all cooked nicely. Not too dry. Very good vegetables. My ends with vegetables were awesome. As requested, and the onions with peppers were even better. Rice and beans are really good, not super salted either. Nice family environment. But when we had finished our meal , then someone came to ask if we needed more drink or anything. my husband and son drink had runout almost 35minutes ago. A great visit on Friday night! The staff was so friendly and attentive! They welcomed our group of 7 quickly and had us set up with drinks and chips. The bean salsa dip is amazing. Their options are plentiful but specialty is the steak bit and strips. I went with the Steak bit Mexicano cooked medium. Seasoned so well and cooked perfectly!! Absolutely zero complaints. 10/10 best Mexican food I have had since I had been to Mexico City years ago. We are semi new to the area and searched on Google for the best Mexican restaurant the other morning, ended up at El Paisano for the first time. We knew it was a good place when we saw a full parking lot, but that didn't deter the restaurant staff from moving quickly, efficiently, and kindly. It's not often that you walk into a restaurant and immediately feel comfortable like you are in a family member's home. Not only was the environment so friendly and inviting, but the prices and food quality??? Cannot beat. I genuinely think everyone in San Angelo needs to try this spot if you haven't yet. read more

The menu included just about any really good Tex-Mex should have and also offered some great specialty items that were unique. I had beef and chicken tapatios with sauces and salad that rounded out the dish perfectly. Basically the best flautas that I ever had. My wife had the fish tacos. The preparation and presentation were excellent. My wife said that they were right up with the best she ever had. The wait staff couldn't have been better, extremely pleasant and attentive. We found this place on Yelp while visiting my dad. We came 10 minutes before closing they were very courteous. The guiso plate was the special for $8.00. The food was awesome very tender steak full of flavor,beans and rice. Served with homemade flour tortillas. I highly recommend this place. read more

I had the enchiladas - some of the best I've had the pleasure of devouring. My coworker had the tostadas and was similarly impressed. Judging from other diners, the steak here is also a hit. Super quick and friendly service and a fantastic value. In town for a softball tourney and had to try this spot out. It did not disappoint. The Flavor was perfect and the meat for the guiso was super tender. Homemade tortillas always a Big Plus! First time in San Angelo and settled on this place after reading Yelp reviews. The chips, salsa and bean dip were delicious! Didn't get photos of our entrees but I had the Tapatillos, big plate and really good! If you're in town I recommend stopping by! So here's an update to the amazing El Paisano Mexican Restaurant: My wife and I arrived at 1100 for lunch and man, it was packed! We were able to grab 1 of 2 vacant tables and were lucky as that last one got occupied soon after we sat down--a line 4-5 parties formed steadily afterwards. We ordered a Taco Mexicano and an enchilada lunch meal and both were so delicious. El Paisono is consistent with their food and their service is professional and non-stop! I am amazed by the quality of the food, how fast they got the food to us, and that the customers keep coming one party after another! Just as soon as a table is empty and cleaned another party occupies it... The food is delicious and consistent; the service is friendly and fast; and the environment is open and bustling. My only constructive feedback is they need to renovate their parking lot--esp when they have so many customers, it's a zoo when people start parking in all directions... but as it is evident, it's not a deal breaker for many. read more
