My Wife's Son, Joe, came over to celebrate his birthday. He chose the Original Henry's Mexican Restaurant for this Lunch. On Thursday's, Henry's has their Steak Specials running from 11 am until 5 pm, so Steak for lunch sounds like a winner for us. When we arrived, I wasn't really surprised that there are a lot of cars/trucks in the parking lot. Walked in, was greeted by the Hostess, and shown to a table in the Main Dining area. Right away, the Chips & Salsa Lady came by with their Red Salsa, Bean Dip topped with Gravy, and those Fresh Warm Chips for us to enjoy. Right after that, our Server, Monica, stopped by and took our drink order while we looked over the menu, mainly their Thursday Steak Specials. Those Chips and Salsa, which is on the Hot side, are delicious, but I tend to lean toward the Bean Dip topped with Gravy. That is some really good stuff. When Monica returned with our drinks, we placed our order. Joe is having the "KC Steak"; About 16 ounces of Hand Cut Sirloin, requested medium. Served with Baked Potato or French Fries, chose French Fries. Served with Frijoles Borracho's and a Salad. Nancy is having the same thing, but medium rare. I am going with the "Henry's New York Strip Steak"; About 14 ounces. Chose French Fries over the Baked Potato. Served with Frijoles Borracho's and a Salad. All Steaks are tenderized by the In-House-Butcher and seasoned accordingly. Traditional Kansas City-style Steaks are typically seasoned with a blend of Coarse Garlic Salt, Pepper, Coriander, and Chili Peppers. Henry's has other Steaks on their Thursday Specials; Besides the two kinds we ordered, they have "Spanish Steak"; About 14 ounces, with the same sides. The "Chicken Fried Steak"; Their CFS sits in a Cheese-Gravy and is one of the Best CFS's around. And they have the standard "Hamburger Steak"; topped with Brown Gravy & Onions. Right after Monica took our food order, she returned and with Fresh Warm Chips and more of the Red 'Hot' Salsa. That stuff warms you up from the inside out and is very tasty. We enjoyed those Chips and Dips, and then our Salads came out. I topped mine off with their Vinaigrette Dressing, my Wife chose Thousand Island, and I think Joe went with Ranch. Right after we finished the Delicious, Crisp and Flavorful Salads, our Steaks arrived. Henry's has always been pretty quick in serving their food, and the presentation is Spot-On. No matter what plate you order, it's always going to be a Beautiful Presentation. All three of our Steaks are glistening, and the aroma makes your tummy smile. We all three cut into our Steaks and they are Right-On, just the way they should be. I have had the KC Steak before, and it was Very Tastylicious, and that's what my Wife said about hers. Very Tender with lots of Flavor in every bite. Joe loved his also and ate all of it. My Wife didn't eat all of hers because, as she says, she isn't tall enough. I ate all of mine because I am tall enough. It was also Very Flavorful, Tenderlicious and just down-right great. Their Steaks cut very easy with a knife - it just falls through the Deliciousness with ease. Normally, a New York Strip Steak is seasoned by being patted dry, then liberally coated on all sides with kosher salt and black pepper. Some methods involve dry-brining for several hours, while others apply a simple mix of salt, pepper, and garlic powder just before cooking. Don't know if Henry's does theirs this way, but I do know that it's Awesomely Flavored. French Fries are pretty good, and I ate all of mine, but don't tell my Doctor. I'm not suppose to have this much Steak and Potatoes, and I've done this a couple times this week. So - Shhhhhhhhhhhh. No wonder their Frijoles Borracho's are Very Tasty. The Frijoles Borracho's (Drunken Beans) are a classic dish featuring Pinto Beans slow-simmered with Beer, Bacon, and aromatic Vegetables. Other key ingredients are Bacon rendered fat, Garlic, Jalapenos, Tomatoes, Cilantro, and dark Mexican Beer. All of that in a bowl for your enjoyment. And believe me, you will enjoy these. Monica earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. She checked on us at just the right times and was very pleasant to talk to. She also described how the Steaks were seasoned, prepared, and that the KC Steak is her favorite. She is Awesome. When we left, Henry's was pretty busy, as expected. Maybe they all came for the Steaks. On the way home, we enjoyed another Beautiful San Angelo Afternoon. read more

I'm a lifelong fan of Henry's. Growing up, my family would go to Henry's once a week. The chicken fried steak was always my go-to- the flavor is unmatched, meat is tender, and the gravy served with it is the best I've had. When I got older, I started getting the Rosita- 2 cheese enchiladas, 1 beef taco, rice and beans. The sauce on the enchiladas is my favorite. That's still what I order now. I no longer live in San Angelo, so I look forward to having Henry's when I'm visiting for holidays & rave about it to my friends. The Christmas lights inside during the holiday season are beautiful. Prices are good, chips and salsa are always on point. Service is- and always has been friendly and FAST. The food never takes more than 10 minutes to come out, and it's very hot and fresh. Idk if it's under new ownership or what, but this place is going down hill. Slower service. New menu that specifically says they have a bar menu available, but they don't. This is the first time my order was wrong in about 10 visits. Then it took forever to get my plate. Frozen pitcher of margs were the best thing, but took an act of congress to get. Asked for a bowl of limes. Got back three tiny slices for a 64oz pitcher . Hopefully this place doesn't get any worse. read more

Drove buy this place about 10 times before giving it a shot. The large parking lot was always slammed. It's a massive restaurant, and well staffed. My fiancés family & I came here for appetizers and drinks yesterday (around 5pm on a Friday) before a family wedding function we had later that night. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately and without a reservation, which was nice. Inside the restaurant, it is also apparent that they have lots of indoor seating available too. Once seated, our waitress brought us chips & salsa very quickly, and promptly took our drink order too. The chips and salsa were okay, but our waitress brought us several more buckets of chips as we ate them and she was very responsive on that front. The guacamole pictured below was actually made table side for us, and we had the ability to customize what ingredients were used to make it (ex: onion, tomato, chilantro, etc). Right now, the whole place is decked out beautifully for Christmas and though it's super busy (as always) the wait staff are seriously attentive. I ordered water and a cup of queso and when that came, I ordered my meal (Wednesday special $8.00 for two tacos and two enchiladas - wow). I had the rudest waitress today she slammed my refill drink on the table and took off asked for chips so my partner and I could take some home she said we were gonna be charged extra it's not that I was upset about, her tone and attitudes sucked. She never checked on us not even once, took forever to bring us our check, her name was Esmeralda......she needs to reevaluate her attitude at work because treating us like that is uncalled for and very unprofessional. We go to Henrys at least once a month or more, however after today that will probably change. Went in a little after 4, one server took our drink order, another one brought out our drinks and took our order. Best part is food came out fast, however, my plate was a little incorrect, however I ate it, I was really hungry, asked for more salsa when the food was delivered, never got it. Driving from Lamesa to New Braunfels and feeling hungry! My brother and Sis in law suggest the original Henry's and am I glad they did! My husband and I with my bro and SIL got a lot of good food. Good flavor! The salsa had just enough heat: guacamole seasoned just right: and our waitress, Jasmine, was wonderful. Only suggestion...the table was too small for what they brought us! Ha ha. A few words that describe Henry's: overrated, overpriced, generic, ordinary. I've been going to Henry's for years. I used to love it! The chicken fried steak was so good and big that it would hang off the plate. No longer the case. They now charge $14.00 for the plate which consists of a chicken fried "steaks no bigger than a burger patty, a couple of fries or baked potato, and some soggy shredded lettuce drowned in dressing and topped with a single tomato. I was just there on Saturday, February 26, 2022, and I had to ASK the server if she could make sure to bring me a LARGE steak. Her solution was to bring me another tiny steak to supplement the original on my plate. I appreciate the effort, but it wouldn't be necessary if they'd just give people their moneys worth. Go to Los Panchitos. They have the same CFS, and theirs tend to be a more decent size. I won't be going back to Henry's. I'm giving it 2 stars, because at least the server TRIED to make it better. read more

If you're a fan of El Chico or El Fenix, this is the place for you. Good ol' tex-mex at a reasonable price with "American' selections as well. Our friend's steak looked awesome. Be careful of the salsa, it is not mild!! The "white sauce" aka queso Blanco is better if you cut in some salsa too. Service is very good and friendly despite being absolutely packed!
