El Patron has plenty of authentic dishes and accents. The restaurant is nicely decorated in Mexican decor. The menu has a lot of options! It was very hard to decide on one thing. They immediately brought out baskets of chips and cups of salsa. We ordered some guacamole. It was delicious. Very we made! I had a glass of sangria. It didn't have any fruit in it and but it was delicious. I settled on the lunch special chicken chimichanga. It came with refried beans and yellow rice. I was able to eat everything but 1/2 of the chimichanga. My daughter ordered the shrimp tacos. She said it was really good! My sister got the plate with 4 different kinds of tacos. She said they were delicious! It came with 4. She took two home. My sister in law got a small margarita and taquitos. She said they were really good. My brother got some French fries with beef strips and cheese on them. The kids shared a quesadilla. My portion of the bill, which was the two guacamole's, the shrimp tacos, the chicken chimichanga, the sangria and a coke, was $47 before tip. Not bad since we had enough leftovers for my husband to have an entire meal out of it. So, $47 for 3 people. The waiter was great and I tipped him 25%. They were very attentive to our large party of 10. They also have outdoor eating which looked really nice on a spring day. I will definitely be back! read more

They've got the best wings in 12 states. The food is always freshly cooked. We never eat Mexican food anywhere else.

Such a shame! Came on a Saturday night. It was fairly busy, but nothing crazy. We were seated immediately. After we sat down we waiting over 10 min before anyone acknowledged us. Fi soy our waiter came to the table and the first words out of his mouth were - I'm very busy. There was no apology in his part and we hadn't said a word to him or anyone yet, so it's not like we had complained. This immediately set things on the wrong foot. We ordered drinks and before we hmcan can order appetizers, or meals (we knew what we want since we had plenty of time to read and learn the menu) he walked off.... So we waited for the drinks. Once we returned, he put everything down and we ordered. Food came and here's the kicker - the food was amazing, the appetizers were outstanding and the drinks were delicious. We had to cut our dinner short (unrelated to the meal), got boxes (I got up and got as we hadn't seen our 'busy' waiter) and got ready to head out. He brought the check. I asked do we pay him or at the front. He said we pay him. So I asked if we can split the check. Then he said: if you're splitting then go to the front. Like I said at the beginning - such a shame! I might be prejudiced because I've been a customer since they opened! I like everything except the prices...a little steep.

The food is gross, lacking flavor and is overpriced. The staff, especially management, is rude and do not care whatsoever that you're a paying customer. They do not respect their patrons and want to charge for any additional chips with your order, whereas they're bottomless in-house. Whats the difference anyway? Most people just leave full baskets on the table. The other Mexican in town is amazing with real sauces and would do anything to make you happy. I haven't tried the new one where the diner used to be, but you can count on me NEVER to go to El Patron again. read more

My husband and I eat here a lot. We like the food and the price is right. The salsa is good, not too spicy. The customer service is good and everyone is always friendly. The place is fairly clean and the atmosphere is fun. Since the remodel, there is so much more room. We've eaten here dozens and dozens of times and have almost always had a great experience. I have learned not to get the iced tea because it is sometimes old. My husband raves about the stuffed jalapeños and gets them almost every time. read more

Visited this mexican restaurant at 711, 8th st in baldwin city, ks on 10/19/19 between 2-3 pm while attending maple festival with large group of family members. There was large line ahead of us, because of the festival crowd. Our group which included multiple adults and children occupied three full tables. Did not get a chance to visit parking area, restroom or all of customer seating area on this visit. Chips were brought with salsa before actual orders. Salsa with chips was very good. Orders were placed and food was brought in reasonable time. My order was chicken wings under appetizer section. Ten chicken wings with sauce were brought. Chicken wings were excellant. We left without being seated despite over half the restaurant being completely empty. They didn't even have the courtesy to make a waiting list and tell everyone their wait time. They left a long line of customers standing without being spoken to and blocking the front door of the restaurant because there just isn't room for that long of a line there without doing so. A different party had an accident (a man fell to the ground and knocked into an empty table while holding a child) and not a single member of their staff bothered to check if anyone was hurt. This is my absolute favorite place to eat in Baldwin. The service is fast, efficient, and friendly. I only visit about once a month, but the servers always remember my order. I highly recommend the chimichangas, the burrito gigante, and the enchiladas mexicanas. The veggie fajitas are also fantastic. My go-to drink is the sangria margarita - a little sweet but a great refreshing summer beverage! This is the second time I have ordered close to or more than $100 worth of food and had them leave stuff off my order. Both times despite a receipt I have had to pay a second time to get the food that was missing. I have no complaints on the food it is always good hence the reason I keep going back. However there customer service and appreciation seems lacking when I have to pay twice for things they forget. My suggestion is stand there with your receipt and check your order before you leave or you will be paying again for there mistake. If you want what you ordered that is. read more

I've eaten at Mexican restaurants in California, Arizona - even Mexico - and somehow this little place in Baldwin City, KS is the best Mexican food I've ever had.
