5 stars for the grilled chicken!! I was a little taken aback we weren't offered a menu when we sat down. A little later, I noticed a picture menu posted on a board on the wall. There also was a little printed menu on the side of a napkin dispenser (photo). A lady asked us what we wanted to drink, then she asked me whether we were ready to order. Since I really didn't know what to order, I had to ask her what they had to offer. "Chicken." was her reply. "We only have chicken." I was wondering what kind of chicken they had...fried, stewed, baked, sauteed, grilled, etc.... It turns out that all they have is grilled chicken. You can order either a whole, half, quarter chicken. It comes with a side of rice, beans, and a little lettuce salad and a roasted jalapeno pepper. You can order extra baked potato or guacamole (two sizes) if you'd like. If you are getting a quarter chicken, you might as well order a half for about $2 more. If you are truly hungry or feeding three people or more, you might as well get a whole chicken for $15.79 and share. Not much ambience or fanciness IMHO, but their grilled chicken is excellent. I don't know what they do to their chicken (I know they marinade; with what I don't know), it tastes so good. Highly recommended. If I lived here in Hobbs, I'd be back a lot. I was so glad that I tried this establishment on a first and perhaps the only night I was in town.

Why haven't I been here sooner? Because I have only lived here for a little over a month. That's why. Go to spot now. Limited menu; but get the chicken. Seriously. It's just chicken. And it glorious in all it's coal roasted goodness. The beans and rice? Oh so top notch. Guacamole? Freshly made and delicious, so calm yourself..... Also the prices were beyond fair. Treat-yo-self. You'll be glad you did.

I am so happy I found this place! Although there were only 2 reviews when I decided to check out El Pollo Chihuahua, my yelp senses were tingling because I knew something about this place was special. I love chicken and I love mexican, but never had them together like this. When I walked in, I was greeted by friendly servers. There is a very small menu, you have the choice between 1/4, 1/2 or a whole chicken that comes with rice, beans and salad along with tortillas (corn or flour) and chips. I ordered an horchata on the side and I was served my food in less than 10 minutes! The chicken was deliciously charred and juicy. I squeezed a bit of lime on it and dunked it in the salsa that came with the chips. My mouth is watering as I type this review thinking back on it. The rice and beans are very flavorful as well, and beware of the grilled jalapeno! I love spicy but it was majorly hot! The horchata was refreshing. I am counting down the days I came come back. I enjoyed this meal very much, all for under $10! It is very spacious inside so it's good for groups. There is street parking in front and another lot in the back. The staff seem very friendly, maybe it is family owned.

For this city this is an A list place. One thing done well is brilliant. The grilled chicken was great. Enough said!

Yummy! If your ever in the area and are looking for some good Mexican food then head on over here!…read more We waited about 15 minutes on a Saturday around lunch time to get seated. People were coming and going. Our server came on over right away, took our drink orders, and brought over some chips and salsa. The chips were delicious and the red salsa was so good! We were a party of 5 and we all decided to try something different. We ordered: One caldo de res (with rice) One menudo (w tortillas) One order of the chicken flautas (salad, guacamole) One mixed fajitas (rice and beans) One order of the Carne Asada tacos (beans) One order of tacos de alambre (rice and beans) Two Mexican sodas, one lemonade, one Dr. pepper Our total came out to be $73. Our food came out one by one and so we all ate at different times. The food though was delicious! The menudo is great and I loved that it was cooked well. The tacos de alambre are seasoned perfectly and the meat is super juicy. The chicken flautas were stuffed with chicken and they were perfect when dipping into the red salsa. We all enjoyed our food and left stuffed. It was busy though, so it was definitely hard to grab our servers attention whenever we needed anything.. Portions are pretty big so come hungry!

RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4.5 PARKING Ample. LOCATION/AMBIANCE It's on the south side of town near the high school. This place looked nice on the outside and in. There was a variety of tables for different-sized groups. They had a few flatscreens and pleasant music playing. The alarm system was annoying alerting them every time someone came through the door, but I guess that's what helps them know when they have customers. THE GRUB It must've been the ground-to-sky flag flapping in the breeze outside with "tortas" on it that made me gravitate toward the Mexican sandwich ($7.99). Mine came with two small sides of salsa, a red and a green - neither of which I truly cared for because they were overly acidic and not spicy whatsoever. The guisada that I chose was delicious, however, the portion seemed small. The horchata was served in a huge cup & didn't disappoint at all. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB There is a kid's menu with limited options. I posted a photo of it. SERVICE Kind of slow getting up to the front on 1/3/2024. Then I realized they thought I had a takeout order and they were rushing to bring out two large bags of food to me. Lol. The lady who took my order was friendly and efficient. MY FAVORITE PART... There are a few options for meat on the torta. I went with carne guisada which I couldn't recommend more. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The salsas. TIP Alcohol is served here. Please have a designated driver.

Review #2,000!…read more OVERALL Taqueria Villa Nueva is a Mexican restaurant in Hobbs, NM that serves the best torta I've tried in the dusty small town. This is a great place for a family meal. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4.5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING I parked near the front door but only because the place wasn't all that busy. I wish they would paint some parking lines or make it more clear where their drive-thru window begins and ends. Otherwise, it's not that far to walk with nearby street parking. LOCATION/AMBIANCE The dining room has a couple of beautiful murals inside. The buffet area was set up near the register and the kitchen. There were several different sizes of tables. They played a Spanish radio station in the background with good melodies, but way too many commercials at just before noon. THE GRUB As soon as I saw the opportunity for a torta de barbacoa ($9.99), I requested it. This Mexican sandwich was absolutely delicious. I wanted everything on it - meat, avocado, lettuce, tomato, & potatoes. This was an awesome portion for lunch. On the side was a batch of lukewarm shoestring fries which were not seasoned at all. I didn't eat many of them, so next time I will see if they will swap them fries for some arroz Mexicano! Lol. The nice lady asked me which salsa I wanted - "red or green?" I laughed and said both. She obliged. The red is definitely spicier than their green, but still I could not stop eating it. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB No kid's menu available that I saw. There were high chairs/slings, though. SERVICE Welcoming & friendly! My takeout order was out in about 5 minutes. MY FAVORITE PART... The barbacoa! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The fries! TIP Lunch buffet looked really good.

I should have looked more carefully at the menu, but I have never been to a less vegetarian friendly Mexican food place. I ordered a Paloma and it was the worst I have ever had. It tasted like it had no alcohol at all. The place is tiny, and then they had a band coming to play. It was vibrating the entire building. My teeth were rattling. The music itself would have been pleasant if it wasn't eardrum shattering. My husband liked his drink. The service was fine, although there was a communication barrier, I blame myself and not the waitress. I think that's about it. It was also not cheap like others are commenting. This was a big fat fail. Let me add - per my Apple Watch, the decibel level got up to 107 db, and 10+ mins over 95 can damage your hearing! I've been to plenty of places with live music, but never anything that incredibly loud. There were really young kids in there, too!

OVERALL El Coco Pirata's is a chain Mexican seafood…read morerestaurant in Hobbs, NM. They have other locations throughout Colorado and Texas. I really enjoyed a night out here with my parents for a unique meal in this small town. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 4.5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING Could be better. There is some on the north side right next to the restaurant or in the lot just across the street. There is minimal parking on the south side. It's a busy street so be careful. LOCATION/AMBIANCE This medium-sized venue is located on the south side of town with busy Dal Paso Street nearby. My dad refers to it as the ghetto. Some areas are rundown indeed and some outside work could be done, but it's okay. Inside, the high ceilings, flat screen TVs, Spanish music, and some oceanside vibes invite you to an open-style dining area. There was one lone restroom which I personally hate because sharing with other men is disgusting. It's well-lit inside. While we were there, a live 5-piece band came in to play about 8 songs. They never asked us gringos what we wanted to hear. Lol. THE GRUB Complimentary chips were decent, but not very salty. The first batch of salsa was mild. The second batch we received was a bit more smoky-flavored and had more of a chipotle essence to it. + michelada especial ($11) with Modelo - had bacon, cucumber, and shrimp too. So refreshing after a long day! + filete al olivo ($18) - "Basa swai fillet skillet cooked with olive oil, garlic, and chile de arbol served with rice and salad." I really enjoyed this because it came with three small flour tortillas - the perfect portion for me. But, the outer edges of the fish were a bit crispy and hard to cut into with my fork. That's the only silverware we were given was a fork each. + torre altata ($23) - this was a tower of all kinds of items: shrimp ceviche, cooked shrimp, lime juice-marinated shrimp, octopus, Mexican scallops, tuna, onion and cucumber in a red sauce and topped with avocado and chiltepin pepper. My dad said it was way too much for him, but it was good. + tacos de camaron ($14) - my mom devoured hers, not even bothering to let us try it so it must have been really good. I think it was three smaller tacos. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB They had a nice little kid's menu, but my kids were elsewhere so I'm not sure how it fared. SERVICE Most of the employees spoke English, but were also bilingual in Spanish and all of them were friendly. They worked super fast to bus tables, get drink orders, and serve meals. MY FAVORITE PART... My michelada! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The wait to get in on a Friday night. Why don't they use OpenTable?! Lol.
