RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING I parked out front on the street. There is more parking nearby, though. LOCATION/AMBIANCE I was taken aback at how spacious it was inside. From Turner Street it seems like a small place. If you go through the front entrance, there are tables scattered everywhere. The menu and register are towards the back. Order there. Pay. Take your little ticket and they'll bring the food to you whether it's for takeout or dine-in. THE GRUB My grand total for the 1/4 chicken meal and a large agua de Jamaica was $12.36. The chicken meal came with two juicy, tender pieces of barbecued chicken, refried beans, rice, lime wedges, bagged onions, shredded lettuce, two slices of tomatoes, a grilled jalapeno, and your choice of three flour or corn tortillas... such a wonderfully-filling meal. The corn tortillas were good. Not my favorite, but good enough. The jamaica is made in-house and is such a great compliment to the saltiness of the chicken meal. If you've never tried agua de jamaica, its colors are rich due to it being partly made from dried hibiscus flowers. And don't forget, this is Mexican food, so you pronounce it "hah-MY-cah" - not like the Caribbean island nation. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB They don't have a kid's menu to my knowledge. SERVICE Amicable and blazing fast... at least during the regular workday lunch hour. MY FAVORITE PART... The barbecued chicken. Super cute and delicious mom and pop business. We arrived right around lunch time as it was starting to get busy but they have more then plenty of seating. We went in thru the back and we sat down right away. The menu is posted along side the wall by the register, but they also have small menus on the sides of the napkin holders. The waitress quickly came on over and brought us some chips, pickled onions, and salsa. The salsa was good but the chips were obviously store bought. We got two Mexican sodas and decided we were ready to order, since we already knew what we wanted. We both ordered two plates of a 1/4 chicken with corn tortillas. I also decided I wanted to try out their papa asada. (Grilled potato) We didn't wait too long for our food to come out. The chicken was perfectly charred and very juicy. The plate is pretty big. It came with two pieces of chicken, rice, a small salad, beans, and a grilled jalapeño. They do have fresh guacamole and grilled potatoes for an additional cost. The food was delicious and the service was great. This is definitely your spot if your looking for a home cooked meal type of dish. In what has to be one of the only bright stars in Hobbes, El Pollo Chihuahua takes what is simple and cooks it to perfection!! From the best grilled chicken I've ever had to the simplest menu. They took something ordinary and made it extraordinary. I don't have much to say for the town unfortunately. I'm sorry, I hate to be that way. When I was there working, I visited this eatery at least twice a week. Half a chicken, beans l, rice, tortillas de maiz, and jalapeños. Superb! 5 stars for the grilled chicken!! I was a little taken aback we weren't offered a menu when we sat down. A little later, I noticed a picture menu posted on a board on the wall. There also was a little printed menu on the side of a napkin dispenser (photo). A lady asked us what we wanted to drink, then she asked me whether we were ready to order. Since I really didn't know what to order, I had to ask her what they had to offer. "Chicken." was her reply. "We only have chicken." I was wondering what kind of chicken they had...fried, stewed, baked, sauteed, grilled, etc.... It turns out that all they have is grilled chicken. You can order either a whole, half, quarter chicken. It comes with a side of rice, beans, and a little lettuce salad and a roasted jalapeno pepper. You can order extra baked potato or guacamole (two sizes) if you'd like. If you are getting a quarter chicken, you might as well order a half for about $2 more. If you are truly hungry or feeding three people or more, you might as well get a whole chicken for $15.79 and share. Not much ambience or fanciness IMHO, but their grilled chicken is excellent. I don't know what they do to their chicken (I know they marinade; with what I don't know), it tastes so good. Highly recommended. If I lived here in Hobbs, I'd be back a lot. Why haven't I been here sooner? Because I have only lived here for a little over a month. That's why. Go to spot now. Limited menu; but get the chicken. Seriously. It's just chicken. I am so happy I found this place! Although there were only 2 reviews when I decided to check out El Pollo Chihuahua, my yelp senses were tingling because I knew something about this place was special. I love chicken and I love mexican, but never had them together like this. When I walked in, I was greeted by friendly servers. There is a very small menu, you have the choice between 1/4, 1/2 or a whole chicken that comes with rice, beans and salad along with tortillas (corn or flour) and chips. I ordered an horchata on the side and I was served my food in less than 10 minutes! The chicken was deliciously charred and juicy. I squeezed a bit of lime on it and dunked it in the salsa that came with the chips. My mouth is watering as I type this review thinking back on it. The rice and beans are very flavorful as well, and beware of the grilled jalapeno! I love spicy but it was majorly hot! The horchata was refreshing. I am counting down the days I came come back. I enjoyed this meal very much, all for under $10! It is very spacious inside so it's good for groups. There is street parking in front and another lot in the back. I went for lunch a couple days ago. I got an item that I had never had before. The dishes appear to be more authentic Mexican cuisines as opposed to the Tex-Mex we see in most restaurants in town. I thought the food was really, really good. Everything was flavorful and delicious. I also appreciated the glass coke bottles and other drinksthey offered. I couldn't give it 5 stars, because I didn't necessarily like the inside appearance. There didn't seem to be any theme to the decor. read more

Man, what an excellent place to eat. I'm on a Paleo diet and this is the perfect menu if you are too. The chicken is so most and tender and the char is perfection. Refried beans can sometimes be pedestrian. Not here. Perfect texture and flavorful also. The guac is so fresh you may think they add green color. Not too spicy, just right. This little hole in the wall joint is the real deal! The chicken is perfectly charred and what ever they marinade it in flavors all of the meat through and through! Charred jalapeños were awrsome! Rice and refrieds on point. The service was delightful not too nosey but attentive. And my God the horchata was the best I've ever had silky and vanilla delishousness! Love the food here! It's always fresh and a healthy choice! Typically my husband and I will eat here around lunch time and we always order the quarter chicken each. This comes with a side of rice, beans, salad, and a roasted jalapeños; which all tastes amazing!! I love the roasted taste of the chicken and jalapeños! I really can't recommend this place any higher of you like chicken, as this is all they serve. We also love ordering their lemonade and orchata! It's really refreshing!
