    Habaneros (10/24/2022)

Habaneros is a Mexican restaurant in Hobbs, NM, with a full bar & grill. We came in on a Monday evening (11/28/2022) at about 7 PM. It was not crowded at all. They have kid's meals, but personally I don't think I'd bring my kids here late on the weekend. The complimentary chips & salsa are served on cute wooden boards with "Habaneros" burned into it. The chips cantina-style with plenty of seasoning sprinkled throughout. There were 3 types of salsas. My favorite was the spiciest one with an orange tinge to it's color. WHAT MY CREW & I ORDERED: + steak nachos ($14) - highly recommend; I would definitely order these next time with a brew with friends... perfect post-work treat + vampiro tacos (Birria, cheese, consome & salsa macha, $16) - recommend; the birria was really flavorful & dripping with oil, however, the shells managed to stay crunchy. My daughters both loved the consome + chocolate cake ($ - no clue how much as our sweet waitress gave it to us on the house?) - this was absolutely amazing. Not sure if it was made in-house, but it tasted like it was baked earlier that day. - sopapillas ($3.99) - served warm & crunchy. None of us were fans. Nope, never again. - house margarita ($12.99) - all ice, no kick - kid's sodas ($1.50 each) The staff members were mostly nice. The men's restroom was out of service with stacks of chairs in front of it. RATING BREAKDOWN | Food: 4 | Service: 4 | Environment: 3 | Price: 3 | TIPS + Open for breakfast, lunch & dinner + They offer daily specials + Order online for delivery or pickup at http://orderhabanerosnm.com

    Birria Nachos

The menu is a little hard to get through at first. The food was good and fresh tasting. I ordered Birria Nachos and they were amazing! I would order it again and again. Husband ordered an Enchilada meal and he loved it. The staff was very nice and welcoming. The ambiance on the inside is very nice. A little small but comfortable. I would recommend!

Food was really good and so was the service. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.

The food sucks so bad we didn't even make it in. Better off going to Taco Bell and ruining your whole next day.

Very friendly, attentive, and made our dining experience great. I ordered the chicken flautas dish and my husband ordered the shredded beef chimichanga. The flautas were good, but not something that I would reorder. They kinda reminded me of frozen flautas that they just threw in the microwave. My husband did enjoy his chimichanga though. It was pretty big! Our second time around, we were a party of four. It wasn't at all busy, but yet there was no hostess in sight so we waited to get seated. Our sever quickly approached us with a stinky attitude. She was in no way in the mood to be working and had an unkempt appearance. Her way of approaching us was rude and our drinks sat empty a few times. My husband didnt even get his drink and we had to remind her about it. This time around I decided to try out the three crunchy shredded beef tacos and my husband ordered the chicken fajitas entree. My beef tacos were amazing and I will definitely order them again. The beef was so flavorful. The chicken fajitas dish is huge. It came with tortillas, a salad in a taco bowl, rice and beans. It is definitely enough for two! They have various dishes and we will most likely be back to try them out. They also have desserts! Thank you to Kevin for providing us with such great service our first time around!

RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4.5 PARKING Ample. LOCATION/AMBIANCE It's on the south side of town near the high school. This place looked nice on the outside and in. There was a variety of tables for different-sized groups. They had a few flatscreens and pleasant music playing. The alarm system was annoying alerting them every time someone came through the door, but I guess that's what helps them know when they have customers. THE GRUB It must've been the ground-to-sky flag flapping in the breeze outside with "tortas" on it that made me gravitate toward the Mexican sandwich ($7.99). Mine came with two small sides of salsa, a red and a green - neither of which I truly cared for because they were overly acidic and not spicy whatsoever. The guisada that I chose was delicious, however, the portion seemed small. The horchata was served in a huge cup & didn't disappoint at all. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB There is a kid's menu with limited options. I posted a photo of it. SERVICE Kind of slow getting up to the front on 1/3/2024. Then I realized they thought I had a takeout order and they were rushing to bring out two large bags of food to me. Lol. The lady who took my order was friendly and efficient. MY FAVORITE PART... There are a few options for meat on the torta. I went with carne guisada which I couldn't recommend more. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The salsas. TIP Alcohol is served here. Please have a designated driver.

Review #2,000!…read more OVERALL Taqueria Villa Nueva is a Mexican restaurant in Hobbs, NM that serves the best torta I've tried in the dusty small town. This is a great place for a family meal. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4.5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING I parked near the front door but only because the place wasn't all that busy. I wish they would paint some parking lines or make it more clear where their drive-thru window begins and ends. Otherwise, it's not that far to walk with nearby street parking. LOCATION/AMBIANCE The dining room has a couple of beautiful murals inside. The buffet area was set up near the register and the kitchen. There were several different sizes of tables. They played a Spanish radio station in the background with good melodies, but way too many commercials at just before noon. THE GRUB As soon as I saw the opportunity for a torta de barbacoa ($9.99), I requested it. This Mexican sandwich was absolutely delicious. I wanted everything on it - meat, avocado, lettuce, tomato, & potatoes. This was an awesome portion for lunch. On the side was a batch of lukewarm shoestring fries which were not seasoned at all. I didn't eat many of them, so next time I will see if they will swap them fries for some arroz Mexicano! Lol. The nice lady asked me which salsa I wanted - "red or green?" I laughed and said both. She obliged. The red is definitely spicier than their green, but still I could not stop eating it. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB No kid's menu available that I saw. There were high chairs/slings, though. SERVICE Welcoming & friendly! My takeout order was out in about 5 minutes. MY FAVORITE PART... The barbacoa! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The fries! TIP Lunch buffet looked really good.

I should have looked more carefully at the menu, but I have never been to a less vegetarian friendly Mexican food place. I ordered a Paloma and it was the worst I have ever had. It tasted like it had no alcohol at all. The place is tiny, and then they had a band coming to play. It was vibrating the entire building. My teeth were rattling. The music itself would have been pleasant if it wasn't eardrum shattering. My husband liked his drink. The service was fine, although there was a communication barrier, I blame myself and not the waitress. I think that's about it. It was also not cheap like others are commenting. This was a big fat fail. Let me add - per my Apple Watch, the decibel level got up to 107 db, and 10+ mins over 95 can damage your hearing! I've been to plenty of places with live music, but never anything that incredibly loud. There were really young kids in there, too!

I really enjoyed a night out here with my parents for a unique meal in this small town. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 4.5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING Could be better. There is some on the north side right next to the restaurant or in the lot just across the street. There is minimal parking on the south side. It's a busy street so be careful. LOCATION/AMBIANCE This medium-sized venue is located on the south side of town with busy Dal Paso Street nearby. My dad refers to it as the ghetto. Some areas are rundown indeed and some outside work could be done, but it's okay. Inside, the high ceilings, flat screen TVs, Spanish music, and some oceanside vibes invite you to an open-style dining area. There was one lone restroom which I personally hate because sharing with other men is disgusting. It's well-lit inside. While we were there, a live 5-piece band came in to play about 8 songs. They never asked us gringos what we wanted to hear. Lol. THE GRUB Complimentary chips were decent, but not very salty. The first batch of salsa was mild. The second batch we received was a bit more smoky-flavored and had more of a chipotle essence to it. + michelada especial ($11) with Modelo - had bacon, cucumber, and shrimp too. So refreshing after a long day! + filete al olivo ($18) - "Basa swai fillet skillet cooked with olive oil, garlic, and chile de arbol served with rice and salad." I really enjoyed this because it came with three small flour tortillas - the perfect portion for me. But, the outer edges of the fish were a bit crispy and hard to cut into with my fork. That's the only silverware we were given was a fork each. + torre altata ($23) - this was a tower of all kinds of items: shrimp ceviche, cooked shrimp, lime juice-marinated shrimp, octopus, Mexican scallops, tuna, onion and cucumber in a red sauce and topped with avocado and chiltepin pepper. My dad said it was way too much for him, but it was good. + tacos de camaron ($14) - my mom devoured hers, not even bothering to let us try it so it must have been really good. I think it was three smaller tacos. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB They had a nice little kid's menu, but my kids were elsewhere so I'm not sure how it fared. SERVICE Most of the employees spoke English, but were also bilingual in Spanish and all of them were friendly. They worked super fast to bus tables, get drink orders, and serve meals. MY FAVORITE PART... My michelada! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The wait to get in on a Friday night. Why don't they use OpenTable?! Lol.
