From the moment I was greeted at the door from the moment I left I felt like this place really strives for excellence. Starting with my server who was really knowledgeable and polite, gave me some recommendations to improve my experience. Food is good and their service is outstanding. I wanted to have a taste of some small plates and some wine and that was a great choice. They even surprised me with courtesy goodies. I am very pleased with the service provided by their staff and how good my food was. Big shoutout to my server Nicolas who made this experience way better than expected.
El Preferido is solid but I definitely think it is a bit overhyped. First, we had to wait 30 minutes for our 9:30 reservation which was a bit annoying. They did pass out mini empanadas and sprite (?) though, so that made the wait a little more bearable. I like that they bring everyone their own bread and tray with a couple olives instead of splitting among everyone in your group. We split the chicken milanesa, asparagus, and fries. The fries were a huge portion and were pretty good but nothing special. The chicken milanesa was good, but it is definitely more expensive than I think it realistically should be. The asparagus was good, simple, and nothing life changing. I'm not sure I'd return but it was a fun experience to have. Overall, the food was good but it's not remarkable.

We did not have a reservation for lunch, but we were able to be seated outside immediately. I got a pomegranate lemonade to start out with and it was quite bitter. As I made my way through the drink, it eventually got sweeter, but initially I was not very fond of it. There were a number of things that sounded good on the menu, so I settled on the rice pilaf, but upon inquiring about it, I was told it would take an extra half hour. So I revisited the menu and being hungry I ordered the cannolis. They were pretty good, but not something I would crave. Overall the food and service were good, but I feel like the prices were just a bit more than what would've made sense.
If you find yourself in this area, you must stop by. We were eating pizza nearby and watched as people passed us happily eating ice cream. We figured out the direction they were all coming from and went that way! I tried the blood plum and my sister tries the Dulce de leche. It was the perfect treat on a sunny day. They also allow you to try flavors before buying them.
My wife and I recently visited El Preferido de Palermo for dinner. We started our meal with a couple of appetizers. First was the Tortilla de Papas Tradicional which consisted of soft savory potatoes and fluffy scrambled eggs that had a nice runny creaminess. We also had the Plato de Quesos which featured a selection of flavorful soft cheeses. For our entrée we split a Milanesa de Bife de Chorizo (one of the restaurant's specialties). The beef was tender with a nicely crisp breading. We also had the Ensalada de Rucula y Queso Tipo Parmesano (Arugula and Parmesan Salad) at the recommendation of our server. Unfortunately, this salad was flavorless and underwhelming. Overall, a good meal but skip the salad.
This was the only spot in BA we had the intention of going to. We had just finished visiting a museum so we decided to go back to our favorite neighborhood. The wait was only 30 minutes. It was the perfect amount of time to walk over to a coffee shop, get an iced latte and walk back. We got there just in time. We didn't even have to wait to be seated. They sat us outside where it was bussin. Tourists galore. All up everywhere. We honestly had no business getting all the food we ordered when we had a menu tasting late lr that night. We stay playing. We got the chicken milanesa because duh. The salad was a mo brainer. I will always get a salad. We also got the gambas cos we stay doing too much. They also gave our table olives and empanadas to start. The starters really whet our appetites. The chicken was so good. Topping it with the lemon provided really completed the balance. So damn good. The service was above and beyond. There was always someone walking around outside. Multiple people made sure every table outside was attended to. We ended up having to take our leftovers home. When I say home, I mean back to LA. I legitimately flew back to California carrying chicken. Totally worth it.
We waited about 40 minutes for four on a Monday with no reservations. Service was friendly and pretty fast once we got seated. The space inside is beautiful, spacious with plants hanging from the ceiling over the bar. The milanesas were both decent, crispy and well fried without being oily, and the lemon helped cut into the flavor as well as the sauce. Chicken was on the drier side. We also enjoyed the flan and the table bread--it was so soft and the olive oil served with it was excellent. Price point was on the higher side.
One of my favorite spots during our visit to Buenos Aires! Stopped in for dinner on the recommendation of a friend who said it was the best milanesa they had in the city. We started with the charcuterie plate & tortilla de papas (highly recommend both), then split the caesar salad and milanesa de bife de chorizo. Both were amazing! Everything here was incredible and fresh. Also highly recommend ice cream for dessert, we loved the almendrado (vanilla ice cream, almond toffee, and fried almonds) as the perfect way to end an incredible meal!
El Preferido de Palermo is pretty solid. The restaurant serves up classic Argentinian food for tourists who've probably never tried it. Here, you can try dishes like milanesa and fainá (I'm not sure why Porteños love it so much to be honest) that I feel you have to try once in Argentina. One of the best parts of El Preferido de Palermo is the building. The indoor space is beautiful and the outdoor patio is as well. Its location in Palermo Soho is awesome and the street is really pretty. We tried some fainá, burrata, and salami to start and loved every bite. I would order the salami if I came back and the burrata was also really yummy. For a main, we split the massive milanesa and thought it was pretty solid. Listen, El Preferido de Palermo is great if you are in the right audience. This restaurant is a great spot for foreigners who've never had milanesa, fainá, or any other Argentinian dish. That being said, I think you can have way better food at bodegons in the city for much cheaper. Comparing the milanesa to another I had in the Palermo area, the one I got for much cheaper at a bodegon was way better. El Preferido de Palermo is a really good restaurant but the prices are hard to justify when you can get better food for cheaper within a few blocks.
Came here on a beautiful summer's day for an early lunch. I had walked by multiple times day and night, and saw the beautiful interior, the mostly-locals crowds, the intimate vibes, and knew I had to try it. Make no mistake, this is a fine dining restaurant. All of the front of house seem to know English passably well, which I appreciate a lot. This place is listed on some top 50 list of restaurants in Latin America. It's pretty famous. You can google this place to get more of the history, but this used to be an old "bodegone" (sort of cheap diner) from days gone by that had shuttered, but then some restauranteurs bought it and made it a fine dining establishment with upscale versions of the old bodegone dishes. For example, they're known for their milanesa (we Americans would call this country-fried steak, though they make it with ribeye or strip steak! Instead of gravy or ketchup, it's a more delicate tomato sauce on the side). I ended up trying the prix fixe menu that day, and the portions were massive! I recommend checking about portion sizes and maybe sharing if you're with someone. The main course included the equivalent of 2 American orders of steak-cut fries and one gigantic, 12+ oz (maybe larger?) of milanesa de bife de chorizo (i.e. American country fried steak but using New York strip steak and a tad thicker, and more delicately breaded in this case). The dessert course was FOUR scoops of ice cream! At that point, I had to check with the server if that menu was meant for one or two people! (It was meant for one.) And that was the 'corto' (short) menu. There was a 'largo' menu, lol. Anyway, the entire menu including two wine pairings costs ~US$80 on the Visa card plus a 15% cash tip. Expensive by Argentine standards, but by American standards, this was an amazing meal for that price. Anyway, the attached photos are the entire tasting menu from start to finish. I also want to mention that the wine pairings were superb and really complemented the dishes well. The milanese de bife de chorizo (country-fried steak using New York strip cut) was delicately breaded, with an amazing texture. The first bread course had warm, French-style rolls that could be in any fine French restaurant in Paris, with flavorful olive oil for dipping. The dessert course ended up being a 'tasting menu' of ice creams, including classic dulce de leche and something, something Marsala wine, and other good stuff. Hands-down, the best meal I've had in Buenos Aires after over a week here. "Hack" for getting a table: Best to make a reservation well before, but if it's too late for that, call them or pop in early in your visit and ask about their walk-in policy and less-busy times. For example, on my Sunday morning in January, they opened at 11:30am, and there's a line down one end for walk-ins (people started lining up about 10 minutes before), and another one for people with reservations. All the walk-ins got in immediately, and by the time I ate and left, the restaurant was only half full. This is despite the reservations online looking like they were fully booked. I suspect they leave a lot of room for walk-ins at certain times? Bathrooms: Upscale, clean, and spacious. Very nicely done.
I was in Buenos Aires for two weeks and I can say hands down that this was my favorite dining experience during my trip! I saw this place on tiktok and really wanted to try a Milanesa, so I set out to find the best in town. This place is fairly upscale and usually pretty busy, so I did have to wait about an hour to be seated but I just grabbed a drink at a nearby bar and came back at the allotted time and they were ready for me. I sat outside and it started to get a little chilly, so the staff brought out blankets for everyone which was a really nice touch. I ordered Milanesa Pollo and a salad (and a glass of wine, of course) and it was so good! A lot of the salads I had in BA were were underwhelming, but this one was perfectly dressed and paired well with the Milanesa, which was so delicious. The staff was very attentive and patient with me as I butchered their language trying to order in Spanish (there is English on the menu, I just really wanted to practice) and they even threw in some free ice cream. 10/10 experience- this place was great. A must "go-to" if in Buenos Aires.
En 5 días de visita a Buenos Aires decidimos ir dos veces. Desde la atención, a la decoración y obviamente sobre todo la comida no tenemos somos excelentes cosas que decir. No está demás decirles que no se pueden ir sin probar la milanesa, la joya de la corona de la casa. Acompáñelo con el tartar de tomate, un plato simple pero delicioso. Y ni hablar de las morcillas, y hasta las papas fritas! No duden ir, todo lo que les dicen de lo bueno que es, es verdad.
There are lots of cool restaurants on Palermo but this one shines through - Michelin star, #17 restaurant in S America- the sister restaurant to world famous steakhouse Don Julio is well deserving of its accolades. The pastel colored exterior and traditional wood/vegetative interior is stunning. We ordered traditional Argentine cuisine. To start, chickpea bread con queso accompanied by cured melt in your mouth meat. We split the Milanese, which was tender and basic, but sometimes less complex is more. For a side, the sweet potato was delicious and cooked open flame on the grill. read more
Great food, even better service. The staff was genuinely warm and welcoming the kind of place where they treat you like a regular even if it's your first time. They brought out complimentary bread and olives, plus fainá, and even surprised us with pear sorbet on the house. Little touches like that go a long way. We ordered the behemoth milanesa napolitana an absolute monster of a plate in the best possible way. The roasted bell peppers Hands down some of the best I've ever had. Sweet, smoky, perfectly done. We also had the tomato carpaccio fresh and bright, and a tortilla de papa, which we asked to be cooked a bit longer since I'm not a fan of runny eggs. They nailed it. Generous portions, thoughtful service, and food that hits all the right notes. Hard not to walk out happy. read more

En 5 días de visita a Buenos Aires decidimos ir dos veces. Desde la atención, a la decoración y obviamente sobre todo la comida no tenemos somos excelentes cosas que decir. No está demás decirles que no se pueden ir sin probar la milanesa, la joya de la corona de la casa. Acompáñelo con el tartar de tomate, un plato simple pero delicioso. El Preferido was our first sit down meal in Buenos Aires, and it was definitely one of the best (if not the best) meals we had in Argentina. The overall ambience of the restaurant is an upscale version of a traditional bar notable, and the service was impeccable (think Michelin worthy). The milanesa and morcilla were great and exactly what we hoped for, the tomato salad was fresh and packed with flavor, and the fries were super surprising; despite being large, they're somehow super crispy but also soft on the inside. We thought about those fries for weeks! We definitely come back here the next time we're in Buenos Aires. read more

Great experience. Staff was extremely friendly and the food was exceptional. Their appetizers are far superior to Don Julio's and the atmosphere inside is better as well. I had the fish and it was some of the best fish I've had in years. The reservation process was a little bit of a pain but otherwise a great time and great food. read more

We couldn't get a seat at Don Julio's so was told that this place is family of Don Julio. It was around 7:15 pm and had no reservations. We were a party of 2 and were offered a seat at the bar which I would always prefer. It was open kitchen so you see all the magic in the kitchen. Now, this is an upscale restaurant where everything is a la carte. Prices were in ARS. They provide a beautiful bread with a roasted peeper sauce that was amazing. We ordered the sirloin ($51). I ordered mashed potatoes($7) and hubby ordered fries ($10) and we shared a red blend bottle of wine ($30) 2 people can share a side easily, but they didn't offer that info. They offered a complimentary ham appetizer that was delicious! As for my entree, my steak came perfectly medium rare. It paired so nicely with the red wine. After dinner they provided a complimentary plum sorbet . The entire meal for 2 steaks, 2 sides and a bottle of wine was 162,000 ARS( $140 usd). For me it was well worth every penny.The staff were attentive, informative and so nice to engage conversation with. I highly recommend coming here! read more

My friend and I visited Argentina in July and had a longggg list of restaurants we were told we HAD to visit. El Preferido de Palermo was on that list and it happened to be just around the corner from our apartment. I'd already secured a reservation for our last night, but every time we walked passed the restaurant there was always a bevy of people standing outside clamoring for a table. So, if you want to visit, make sure you make a reservation way ahead of time. While in Buenos Aires, we learned that El Preferido de Palermo is owned by the same people as Don Julio (but in my opinion is significantly better). When we arrived for our reservation, we found the usual throng of people standing around the hostess, and were very glad we'd thought ahead. A few minutes after our reservation time, we were called inside. To start, my friend and I shared the burrata salad which was very tasty. For our entree, we shared their signature dish, the Milanesas de bife de chorizo and of course french fries. I've visited many an Argentinian restaurant in my life and this was the best Milanesa I've ever had. Our server told us that they make their pistachio ice cream in-house and that it's amazing. I took his word for it and he wasn't kidding. It was amazing. Overall, our experience was great and I wouldn't hesitate recommending El Preferido de Palermo to anyone visiting Buenos Aires! read more
Highly recommend making reservations well in advance. Went by for lunch with no reservation, was fortunate to get on the wait list and had a seat at the bar within 1 hour. High customer service marks as they periodically bring out small tasty empanadas and sparkling water for guests waiting for a table. Very attentive staff once seated. Was given bread and plate of olive oil to start. They were out of the wine I selected on the menu but the staff made a strong recommendation that was outstanding (Tutu Malbec). I ordered the sirloin stale that typically is an order for two but the chef agreed to give me a half portion, mashed potatoes and a green salad. Food came out quickly, steak was cooked perfectly and the salad was seasoned well, one of the best salads I've had. Highly recommend! On a side note, every staff member I encountered from hostess to wait staff spoke good English. read more

Excellent huge portion of beef milanese. Meat was tender. I also got a complimentary salad. The house malbec was excellent too. Good service and waiter spoke English which was good since my Spanish wasnt good. read more

Knowing that El Preferido is a popular spot, we luckily snagged a table inside for dinner time. The staff are buzzing all around you as you walk to your table but they are all working fast and efficiently while maintaining a nice ambience for all guests. I noticed when we piled our bags on one of the empty chairs, they kindly placed a clean cloth napkin on top. We ordered the milanesa, watercress salad, sweet potato casserole, and a special almond sauce. The milanesa was perfect to share amongst three people and tasted perfectly crunchy and well seasoned. I thought the watercress salad would have a dressing or other toppings, but it was just watercress. The sweet potato casserole was delicious but could use more seasoning. And I enjoyed adding the sauce onto most of the other dishes. Who could forget about the wine?? We ordered a bottle of Fin Del Mundo red blend - it was well-balanced and went well with the Milanesa. Overall, our meal at El Preferido was a highlight from our time in CABA. Would definitely go back there again! read more

The food all tasted great and was as expected. I ordered a glass of the Tutu Malbec and a mineral water to drink. To eat, I ordered the tortilla de papas and chicken Milanesa. The order also came with bread, olives and a yellow food that I don't know the name of (had a pickle like taste). The wine was fantastic. The tortilla was probably my favorite menu item and I really enjoyed the chicken milanesa. I wish I had done a salad or something lighter for a starter since I was not able to finish all the food. The waiters were fantastic and attentive. I got seated immediately with a reservation at opening. Waiters constantly checked in on me and kept my water glass full. I sat outdoors in late May and the space was the right environment. Mostly small groups and couples outside with patio heaters on. The tables also had candles and blankets. This was our first stop in Buenos Aires after it was recommended to us and it was the perfect welcome. The food was fantastic, the service was amazing, and the vibes were great. We were in a quiet little corner and enjoyed every dish we had for lunch on Christmas Eve. The Milanese with papas fritas is a must! read more
