I would suggest a reservation if dinning after 8pm, we arrived at 7 and quickly seated but restaurant fill d up quickly after that. Came here in the evening on a Tuesday and we were able to get seated immediately. The place was pretty popular but the venue was sizable I accommodate groups and small party sizes. We ordered a few entrees in our party and tried different cuts of meat and sides. My favorite of the night was the chorizo. It was so tender on the inside and flavored well! What a find near our hotel. We stopped in for lunch and tried several dishes. Our server was terrific guiding us to try enough but not too much. The chorizo was grilled and had amazing flavor. I don't typically like Chimichurri sauce but this authentic version was really nice. Garlicky but not overpowering. The handmade empanada was my husband's favorite. A house made crust, filled with meat and sauce- amazing. Red wine by the glass was inexpensive and delicious. We shared the flank steak with rustic potatoes. Delicious. Not a slim steak like in the US but a meaty, flavorful, well grilled steak. Potato serving was enough for a family! Crispy steak house fries. I liked the vibes at this restaurant. We walked in around 10pm on a weeknight. This spot ended up being one of my husband's favorite. For me, I was disappointed that none of the pastas were available that night. Secondly, 75% of their meat cuts were sold out. Sandwich Vegetariano - this sandwich had no flavor. They grilled some eggplants, red peppers, zucchini. They slabbed the veggies with some cheese in between some bread. I was hungry and grateful but felt there was no effort put in. Can I just say the Ojo de bife (rib eye) was 10/10!? I was googling the best places to eat steak and the reviews led me to Santos Manjares. A couple bloggers have mentioned this is a local favorite, and won't break bank too much! And I concur. I would have loved to try the whole Asado experience if I had more than 24 hours in BA but this parilla is hands down worth going to! Take note that they don't take reservations as it's on a first come first serve basis. They are open at 11:30am Monday to Saturday so when I got there at noon, I was lucky to snag a table. You can choose from mashed potatoes, mashed pumpkin, sautéed vegetables, rice or fries for your side. Don't forget to pair your steak with wine! The Malbec they served me (Alma Mora) was an exquisite pairing with my meal- I'm no wine connoisseur but it was absolutely amazing with my medium rare ojo de bife. If you have room for dessert, make sure to try the flan con dulce de leche which were equal parts delightful! I would go back to Santos Manjares in a heart beat! An excellent restaurant! Classic staple with classic food and well priced. It's a small place so be patient with seating but it's definitely worth it! "Holy delicacies" is what my translate app says Santos Manjares means and it sure does live up to it. We had a great dinner with rib rye and roasted vegetables and pork ribs with mashed potatoes. The rib eye was juicy and delicious. The ribs were more like a dry rub rather than slathered with bbq sauce. Mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy. Veggies definitely helped prevent us from feeling like complete carnivores! Ambiance was chill, so I didn't feel the need to dress up. Best ribeye in years! Saturday afternoon at 5 pm and the place was packed. That says something. Service was very attentive despite every table filled. We started with empanadas and house white for my wife and house red for me. The empanadas were amazing ... rich gravy, tender beef, and packed with flavor. Yum! Both wines were very good ... I particularly liked the house Malbec. A hint of dryness with mostly fruity notes and no sign of oak. My favorite kind of wine. My wife had the pumpkin sorrentinos, a very tasty pasta dish with lots of provolone. I had the ribeye, done to perfection as medium rare. So juicy and flavorful. Won't return: although the meat is good but the atmosphere is like an Irish pub, suitable for an after game meal. And the a/c is weak, if they've it at all. We arrived at 3:44 on a Friday. Two couples were waiting ahead of us. We were seated 13 minutes later. The restaurant is pretty small, with a small second floor. When I went, one of servers took my name (ok ... she asked for my name, 'nombre' and I thought it sounds like number, and gave her my phone number - hope this makes your day ... lol). After taking my 'name', she closed the door and told/pointed me (I thought) to wait outside. Our table is close to the door. Some of the subsequent dinners have come in and waisted by the door - so you know how uncomfortable it is for us. The menu is in Spanish. Google translates does a fine job. Our lunch at Cafe Proa hadn't disappear completely, so we just ordered two steaks: filet mignon beak and rib eye. All steak comes with one side (I think). the sauce for bread: looks better than the taste  the bread: pretty good  the filet is tender but tasteless (as usual) rib eye is more flavorful (as usual) ... nothing is new. The bill is inexpensive ($32) compare to US but I can't see myself returning.  The bathroom is downstairs - it's a trip. read more

Love this spot! A local guide told me about it, said it's a local favorite. I came for the first time at opening on a weekday for lunch, and it filled up quickly! I got the ojo de bife with sauteed veggies the first time (every meat comes with a side) and the bife de lomo the second time, both medium. It was super tasty, flavorful, juicy, not too bloody. I was given bread with chimichurri as well, and the sauteed veggies were good too (could do with some salt which they gave to me). SM is a little busy restaurant. Nice setting. We were greeted and seated as soon as we entered the restaurant. Our waitress Daniella was super pleasant. She speaks English very well. Highly recommend this place when in BA. This place beats those fancy steakhouses where you have to make reservation. For the price, you get really delicious cuts of steak here. Best meal we had while in Buenos Aires! In fact it was so good we returned on our final night. I had a filet mignon the first time but it was so much bigger than USA portions, so on my return I had the filet medallions - I think they call them coins - and that was the perfect size meal for me. Tourists be wary: I promise I am usually not one to leave a bad review but my experience here was terrible. My two friends and I are visiting Buenos Aires from the U.S., we chose Santos Manjares based on the glowing reviews and it was close by to the theatre where we spent our evening. Walking into this establishment, the ambience was nice, lots of locals having a great time. It looked promising. It was about 11pm when my two friends and I went, we were sat a table pretty quickly and brought menus and waters that we asked for and we let her know that we are not fluent in Spanish but know enough to get by and order en Español. Our server then left us to look over the menu which had translation in English (which we thought would make our ordering experience easier for both the group and our server.) The server came back about 15 minutes later to take our order. Without doing so, she then disappeared and never came back. We waited an additional 20 minutes before we decided she may have forgotten about us. We tried getting the attention of several different wait staff, there were about 5 or 6 on the floor at the time, and we were ignored every time. After desperately trying to catch their eyes and waving respectfully, finally one member of our group had to get up and walk back to the service station to ask if someone could please come take our order. We didn't want to stay too long since the restaurant was closing soon. We were at last able to put in our order and we were brought our food fairly quickly but our bottle of wine that we ordered was missing. We let staff know and they begrudging brought us our wine and glared at us the entire time they were opening and pouring it. We ordered bife de oro, rustic fries and vegetables: the steak and fries were good, not spectacular, but the vegetables were not seasoned at all and we didn't really eat them. Our group agreed that the food didn't exactly live up to the very positive reviews that we had read. We took our time eating and talking and by this time it was past closing time. Not once did any staff come to check on us to make sure everything was to our liking or see if we needed more drinks. We spent about an hour and a half in total there and we had minimal interaction with the staff the entire time even though they were all visible from our table and seemingly taking care of the several other guests who were there. After finishing our food and waiting quite a while for someone to bring us our bill, we ended up having to again walk to the servers station to get our bill. Whilst paying, we got so many dirty and disgusted looks from the staff. We left as quickly as we could after that, baffled as to why we were treated so poorly here. It was obvious that the staff did not want to interact with us and we did not feel welcome there. Our biggest complaint was that the staff were extremely unwelcoming and cold to us the entire time. I have hopes that ours was a unique experience and that the employees are normally friendly and efficient but unfortunately that was just not our experience. If not, I hope the management here will take notice of its hospitality staff and make major improvements, especially in a tourist area where a little extra effort goes a long way. read more

Solid Argentinian steak house. Specialty or at least recommended cut is the bife de chorizo which is described as a rump steak here though google search returns sirloin. In any case its a pretty lean cut so should be ordered medium rare max. This is a pretty tasty steak and the house special is to serve it with baked potato slices served in cheese with ham. This is a good choice as the side doesn't seem to be available with other cuts. That much said, reading the other reviews, I might opt to try the ribeye next time as that is my preferred cut. The steak special with a bottle of Coke clocked in under $15 USD. A total bargain. Earth shattering? Destination worthy? No as I definitely make a much better steak at home starting with better beef, but a nice affordable lunch in Buenos Aires. My steak took about 30m by which time my Coke went flat, so you might want to delay your beverage order until you see the food. read more
