One of the best Taquerias in Mexico City we've tried during our trip in March. There's 2 sides where you can order, just check the menus that are up, let them know what you want then you pay after you eat. It wasn't hard to communicate with very little Spanish that i know, people were nice. They accept cash or card. I can tell it was a local favorite, we were the only travelers who ate there at the time. It was busy but quick to get your food. We stood on the side where there's a little eating area available. Plus points, walking distance to the high rise AirBnB we stayed at so it was a safe neighborhood. I had lengua, cabeza and cachete which i was craving for the whole time and they were so tasty. It came in small tortillas which i prefer and was packed with so much meat. It definitely filled me. Hubbs had the more normal protein option which he also enjoyed. Ate at Progresso, several years ago when I first visited CDMX so had to return back after all these years to see how they are doing and so happy to see that they are still running strong. The steak taco and cheese is still out of this world and the salsa bar is absolutely rocking. So glad places like this still exist and are thriving in the city despite all the gentrification that is taking place. read more

One of the first tacos I ate in Mexico City!! I got the Bistec and Campechano tacos, and both were solid choices. The bistec was tender and flavorful, while the campechano was interesting with its mix of different cuts of meat--there was even a minced meat that added a nice texture. I really liked that you could dress up your own tacos with salsa, beans, nopales, potatoes, limes, cilantro, and onions, which made the experience feel more authentic. I also tried the mango agua fresca, and I was genuinely surprised to see them blending actual mango into it instead of just using juice. It tasted incredibly fresh, way better than what you typically find in the U.S. The only challenge was the language barrier, as they only speak Spanish, but they were patient and kind while I ordered. Came here after fruitlessly waiting in line for 30min at a taqueria only for the line to not move (turns out people waited over 2 hours in line for that one). Came here as a consolation prize since it wasn't too far away and I'm so glad I did! A really friendly and nice taqueria. Got a bunch of bistec (thin beef) tacos and a pork one, too. They have a sauce bar of sorts to dress up your tacos which was nice. The expected verde (green) and roja (red) sauces, but also some random stuff like pickled veges, mashed potatoes, etc. The bistec was phenomenal. Super thin and juicy. They have a lady making fresh tortillas in the back and they were nice and thin while not falling apart. It really hit the spot and I definitely could've gone back for more. Also decently priced at 45 pesos a pop. There was plenty of seating inside, too, so no need to worry about that. Overall, great taqueria I had during my visit. I will say I had some yummy troubles after, but I won't completely blame this place as I had another taqueria and drinks later in the evening. But something I wanted to call out. I ate on the left side, which is more of a serve yourself ordeal but it was perfect for a quick breakfast / lunch. There's bar seating outdoor and high / low tables inside. ok wow. cheap delicious tacos? say less. the only downside was that i didn't order more. tripa and cabeza tacos were only 18 pesos, which is insane. Wish texas has dollar tacos. damn you inflation! i only ordered one of each, and my wife got two lengua tacos. Typically for lengua tacos here in the states, its chopped, but this place was sliced which was interesting. everything was delicious and cheap. Lots of locals eat here and they also have a place to get fresh agua frescas. this place is broken up into two sections, one side sells the steaks, and the other sells the other types of meats. The agua frecas is located on the non steak side and the cashier is located in the middle. Little seating inside, and lots of people were just eating in the streets. read more

An amazing place to get some quick, delicious tacos. Grabbed an order of the loganisa and the beef tongue tacos which are ready for you in super short order. You just choose your meat and if you want cheese and that's handed to you on a fresh tortilla, everything else is available on the side for you to pour on at your discretion. The salsa verde here is proper spicy but still flavorful and you can pack your taco with any manner of other toppings you want. Beef tongue taco was unexpectedly delicious, super beefy and the texture of just a whole slice of beef tongue on a taco was pretty interesting but still bite through-able. Loganisa taco was probably the most flavorful taco I've had so far, absolutely great. Nothing tasted overcooked or dry either which I feel like is a common problem with a lot of otherwise tasty tacos. Vibe is very get-in, get-out, they are here to feed the locals not impress tourists. Locals definitely appreciate it, every time I walk by the place is packed but you can still get your order in pretty quickly. There's very limited seating and some standing counter space but everything is designed to be easy to eat standing up although maybe pay the tiny bit extra for an extra tortilla if structural integrity is a concern. Amaaazing tacos!! My girls and I were starving when we arrived to Mexico City from our red eye flight. After a quick nap, we headed to El Progresso to get quiet our rumbling tummies. They were super legit- just peep all my pics. One side has the "basic meats" and the other side has the lengua, brains, intestines, etc. I tried the bisteca con queso and loaded it with all of the condiments. Note that the sauce that looks like guacamole is actually salsa and it's pretty hot! There's beans, nopal (cactus), salsa, onions. Their tortillas are also homemade! One bite and I was in heaven- perfect seasoning and freshness - the only thing was it was a little spicy (due to the "guac" situation) and my mouth was a bit on fire for the last part of the taco. I would definitely recommend it for some authentic Mexican tacos. I want to try the lengua next time! read more

We walked from our hotel to this taqueria and the walk was worth it and needed after we finished.... Tacos are plain for $20 pesos or $25 with cheese. The extra toppings are free and delicious, choose from mashed potatoes, nopales(cactus), beans, red and or green sauce, manzano peppers and onions. Be aware the green sauce and the peppers are spicy but oh so delicious! It's a small place so it gets packed quickly and you definitely get the full experience of standing at a taqueria. We will probably go back tomorrow for lunch, so yummy! They have sodas and flavored water, you must try the watermelon and melon, perfect sweetness to it. My first and only taco stop in Mexico City (I'm also ashamed that sentence came out of my mouth) and while the meat wasn't earth shattering, the topping buffet was what made this taco joint a stand out. (If you're a vegetarian, you can do cheese only or nopales and then go to town on the toppings.) Mashed potatoes, salsa, onions, nopales, beans, and limes. All included in your 25-30 peso taco (30 is con queso). The taco was a mouthful before the topping top off, but after loading it up, it became much more than just a walking snack. They have juices as well that are served in massive styrofoam containers that have got to be 32oz, at least. If you're doing a taco crawl of Mexico City, this should definitely make the list. read more

I ordered a taco with the pork chops and queso, coming out to $27 which is pretty expensive for a taco, but I imagine the price was due to the buffet style toppings. Had there been forks, I would have loaded up on those mashed potatoes because dang were they delicious. Instead, I ended up overloading on my taco trying to overcompensate the price of the taco for sheer volume of toppings. I ended up with a monstrosity that I will not picture- instead I took a picture of my friend's taco, with the Mexican sausage, that I actually ended up eating as well, since the spice level in it was too intense for her to handle. The pork chop by itself wasn't spicy, so I added a generous layer of the hot sauce, as well as generous layers of every other topping, including guacamole, onions, mashed potatoes, and white baked beans. Suffice to say that I made a mess trying to fit the taco in my mouth with the mountain of toppings that I piled on top. While I struggled, my friend began to sweat from every orifice in her face, we're talking snot, tears, forehead perspiration, the works. If you have the taste buds of the average American, I would therefore not recommend you order the Mexican sausage. In my opinion, it was just perfect though, so I ended up eating the other half of her taco as she wiped away her dripping eyeliner. I'd say that the high price gave me too much pressure to load up on toppings, and so I ended up not enjoying the taco as much as I probably could have had I been reasonable with the amount of food a tortilla could hold and the amount my mouth could fit. However, the toppings were all delicious, save the green vegetable that I still can't identify, and I had a good time watching my friend cry. read more

I called this place organized chaos. As you walk up you take in all the activities and wonder which line or location do I stand in. This is quickly resolved as more than one staff member approaches you to see how to help. Keep in mind this is, more or less, a stand up environment. What I loved watching is the realness of how this place is used to support everyday food to those in the surround area. People bring their "Tupperware" containers to be filled with enough tacos to feed a family or for a person's lunch. There was a wonder rhythm about how everything was done (and in truth that is what I love watching when I am at an eatery, small or large basic or fancy.) What added to the marvel is how you pay, it seems to be on the honor system as you tell the cashier what you had, but I also noticed the "helper" kept an eye on who is who and what is what. Now to the food, we had a variety of street fare style taco, tongue and a mix of beef. These were quick lovely devoured, but my fav was the Bistec, the size was a bit larger in size. The condiments are killer good. We also enjoyed a lovey "water" watermelon drink, so refreshing. As we completed our late afternoon adventure we could not help but look back and that is when we noticed the lines had grown substantially, glad we got in when we did. Now off to find an excellent Al Pastor taco place in the next day or so. read more

Came here for breakfast, because... why not tacos for breakfast? Saw many get the bistec, so I went for that as well. Thin slices of beef on flat top, severed in bigger tortilla than your typical taco, and you can choose to add queso or not. I went without it. There's salsas, toppings, and guac that you can add on the side, which is nice. I also tried the chorizo and it was just okay. On the right side of the restaurant, there's a huge pot with all sorts of pig parts boiling away. Tacos from the pot are your more traditional offerings. Got a lengua from the pot, and it's on point, even though I'm not a huge lengua fan. There's also fresh blended juices but watch out if you're not used to Mexico's tap water, since that's what they use to blend, or else you'll pay for it like I did. read more

Taqueria El Progresso sells steak and pork tacos (pork chop meat) with lots of toppings - mashed potatoes, beans, cactus, manzanita peppers and onions, and red and green sauce. I didn't like the taste of any of the meats but I truthfully only like pulled or finely chopped meat in tacos and this did not fit that description. The tacos are $20 pesos a piece with $5 more pesos for cheese. My boyfriend thought the pork was better than the steak. Order your taco, fill up on toppings, and then pay. read more

Best tacos we had in Mexico City! Tried the saudero, cachete, lengua, tripas, longaniza and campechano. The only miss was the lengua. It wasn't bad it just wasn't on par with the rest. Saudero and Cachete were some of the best tacos I've had. And the tripas was right up there as well. This place is DELICIOUS! I'm vegetarian so I order quesadillas and add in the beans, mashed potatoes, avocado sauce, hot sauce, limón, and it is AMAZING! They even heat/melt the cheese before adding it into the handmade tortilla. Incredibly affordable! For two quesadillas, it's about US $2.50 and honestly it's a full meal. It's a great Taqueria. Certainly the best In the neighborhood maybe the best in the center of town. The steak tacos are wonderful as are the pork. The tortillas are fresh and delicious and it has a very laid back vibe even though some are in a hurry. Of and it's so cheap. I can get out for less than 100 pesos which today is around $4.
