4.5 stars This place was featured on Netflix taco chronicles, Anthony Bourdain and is a Michelin bib recommendation. I tried the gringas with Al pastor. Pork sliced off the trompo with cheese and pineapple and cut into 4. I liked this a lot because it came with cheese and didn't have the onions and cilantro to the meat and cheese were more prominent flavors. I also had the pastor and campechanos (brisket and sausage) and suadero (brisket) tacos they were also very good. The brisket was very tender and tasty but my favorite was the longaniza because it had a nice char and stronger flavor. The salsas were also delicious. I liked mixing the tomatillo and the other green spicy one together. I liked the flavor of the tomatillo and the spice of the other one. What's most attractive is the price. Most of the tacos are 25 pesos each or 70 pesos if your order 3. There are some that are more but most of the popular ones are 70 pesos for 3. The tacos are small I think 4-5 is the perfect amount for me. I'd get 3 if I wasn't too hungry and 6 if I was. The place is very casual and pretty much street food with seating and table service. Our server was very quick and helped us with our order. I went back multiple times on the week days I got in no problem. On Saturday evening there was a short line and wait to get in. I also had a large horchata which surprisingly came in a pitcher and was enough for 3 people. It was ok but at 50 pesos a steal! I also tried the jamaica and the tamarindo. Michelin recommended tacos! This was pretty good. We had a mariachi band serenade us while we were there which was fun. We tried a lot of food. Their pastor, suadero, chorizo, and cow head tacos, as well as their choriqueso and frijoles. The pastor and chorizo tacos were great, but the shader and cow head were nothing special. Fairly bland. I repeated myself twice and the server repeated it back to me. My plate came covered in cilantro and the server seemed surprised that I had a problem with it. We actually found this place looking for another, but saw that the place had a good looking spit with pastor out on the sidewalk and the dining room was full of people (which is the true test on how good a place is) and it had great Yelp reviews so we were in. I got the Gringa with pastor & Suadera (pork & brisket - $60 pesos at a conversion rate of $19.81 pesos per dollar comes out about $3) and it was the show stopper - I had to get another because it was so good but also kinda small & not enough to fill up on). My girlfriend got the Orden de Tres (street tacos - $22 pesos or $1.15) - she also got 2 orders (pastor & sueadero - pork & brisket) and they both were really good. If you are used to getting chips and salsa before your meal - they don't give you chips here, but their salsas are wonderful. My favorite was the tomatillo (darker green one) and the red. The lighter green is jalapeño and very hot (a little hotter than I wanted my first night in Mexico) but was also good. Our whole meal with a 20% tip came out to like $15-ish US dollars. Great cheap tacos with amazing sauce. We got the two vegiterian tacos (cactus and mushroom) and both were good but it was the sauces that made then great. The red sauce was more complex and flavorful than I'm use to and ended up being a surprising favorite. The green sauce was tangy and with a hint of spice and very fresh. The guacamole was hearty and flavorful as well. The first time they only put three chips in it so i think it was mostly for the tacos. They are very quick as well. Wow I was so impressed with this spot which seems like just a hole in the wall. It was featured on Netflix for a reason though, I promise you. Unlike many other CDMX taquerias, this place feels just like home: the food and atmosphere are warm without any superfluous tricks or things that try to impress. I liked the cheesiness of the Quesadillas but they didn't hit the spot. I will say the Nopal was less slimy than I've had at other places. The Pechuga Asada Tacos aka chicken tacos were a big let down. Considering it was the most expensive item we got, they lacked flavor, the pieces were not uniformly cut, and there was just nothing special about it. This was a Michelin rated taco place that I wanted to visit since I saw Anthony Bourdain visit it and was aired on Netflix. We went on the morning of our departure and we were not disappointed . The tacos were smaller but we already knew that coming here. We were there at around 10:45 AM and there were only 2 other groups that were dining . It was a 10 minute walk from our hotel at Centro Historico. The place was clean , the menu was extensive and we asked the waiter a couple of questions about the menu and he answered them gracefully for us. The prices were really inexpensive but that food quality was good! the tortillas were made on site and were thin and tasted fresh. The salsas were also good as well as the horchata I ordered. In my limited experience, this restaurant is the standard bearer for "cheap delicious food in Latin America." My hotel was located two blocks away and this was the first restaurant that I dined at in Mexico City. It's open 24/7 and service is like clockwork. On my second trip to CDMX I actually chose my hotel due to its proximity to Los cocuyos. It was my favorite restaurant on my first trip (which included what would later become 2 restaurants receiving Michelin stars Pujol and Quintonil). Though sad to see that they moved into a bigger space I am happy for their success. The filings still come from the same great pot of bubbling/boiling meats in a vat that hasn't been emptied in some time......continuing to add layers and layers of flavor into all the meats that go into it. Though everything is tasty, the lengua(tongue) and longaniza (sausage) are my favorites. If you like offal and nasty bits the skin, brains, and sweatbreads will blow you away. read more
