The line is fast since this is not a sit down spot. There is seating next door to the taco stand, but they are not affiliated with the restaurant and you need cash to pay for a table. We opted to stand at the counter. Overall, the tacos are really well cooked and so tasty. We got an order of each meat taco. My favorites were the steak and filet. I would love to go again, it was a good taco.

For its notoriety I expected a more grand storefront but it was just a standard food stall. You line up to order and pay and then they give you your food. You can take your food to go or grab one of the few tables next to the shop. The unique thing about this taqueria is that they cook their meats in slabs and place them on the tortillas as-is. They don't chop up your meat into dices and they don't have the typical taco proteins you'd expect either. We ordered most of the meats: steak ($58 MXN), rib ($88), filet ($77), and chop ($88). My favorites were the steak and chop. The rib was a little tough. All the meats tasted better with salt and I liked the green salsa on top. These weren't the best tacos I've ever had but they were good. While its Michelin star meant that I had to try it, I probably wouldn't go back.

We stopped at El Caifan, and we got a clean table for 4. The waiters, when not watching the game too, were attentive. The beers were cold, the food was tasty. Prices were reasonable for being in an area with higher rents and lots of tourist foot traffic. My husband said his carnitas tacos were the tastiest he had in Mexico. Not sure if that was his hunger or the truth, but it's something! I thought my food was good too, although I didn't think the carnitas were quite the best ever, they were still tasty. My son loved his pepitos agua fresca. The bathrooms were clean.

Typically I think the tacos at the smaller, unassuming places and on the food carts are the best options, and typically that's true, but something about the texture and flavor of the al pastor taco here really won us over. The red salsa on it also really brought it home. The staff was also super friendly and we had a couple good conversations with them. Forgot to take a picture, but should have. I think they have a few locations in Mexico City. I'd highly recommend stopping in and trying this, it's not obvious immediately that this could be a memorable stop.
