I've had lunch here twice and I still feel uncertain about the food. I know that it's not just because it's Kansas. I've had great Kansas-Mex. I know that it's not just because I live in Texas either. It seems to be an inconsistency in the quality, a lack of seasoning and creativity and a feeling of disappointment after the meal. The do have free tasty house salsa and chips. El Pueblito also has a good white queso dip. It's just cheese, though. No slivers of onion or pepper and fairly expensive considering what you get. This last visit, I ordered the pork chile verde with additional charro beans. I love salsa verde and green chile and actually had no quarrel with the sauce; but what was supposed to be tender chunks of pork came as dry chewy shredded pork and there was really no saving the dish. The charro beans were okay with a good broth. My tortillas arrived wrapped in foil; but they were cold. I sent them back and got barely warm ones in return. The tortillas appear to be house made and turned out to be very good. My friend had some small well seasoned chargrilled butterflied shrimp that were served unadorned on a cheesey rice. It was sort of white on rice. Not very interesting looking; but yummy. El Pueblito is a large restaurant with private parking. They've carved out intimate spaces inside and they have a track record for speedy lunch service. My food both times was average to unsatisfactory, served in above average surroundings with good climate control and in a thoroughly modern building. I wish the food impressed me as much as the building.

Large group served with ease, they can handle a large lunch crowd. Plenty of servers & big kitchen. Better than average, let's say decent. A bit mild, didn't need more heat yet some mixed flavors. Could expect more avocado on the avocados enchiladas. A happy place, worth a stop, well yes.

The food was delicious. Best El Pueblito around. Quesabirria are some of the best. Service was excellent. Nice clean restaurant.

Sum it all up in two words....White American cheese=GROSS! Not very good at all, I will only order anything with NO White American Cheese!

This is the worst. The food is bland and covered in cheese. The tacos are hard shelled and served with lettuce. Who puts lettuce on tacos?

Most of the Mexican restaurants outside the southwest are disappointing and I came here expecting more of the same. When trying a new Mexican restaurant for the first time I pretty much always order cheese enchiladas. I know that if I don't like them then I probably won't care for much else there. I noticed on the menu that it said their chiles rellenos were made with American cheese and wondered why they'd put that in the description. After all, nearly every Mexican restaurant in this part of the country uses American cheese in/on everything--and I hate it. Cheese dip should be runny, but the rest of the cheese on the plate shouldn't, yet virtually every Mexican restaurant in the area has runny cheese oozing out of their enchiladas. I can't stand it. I already knew that I'd found something special before putting the first bite of food into my mouth. As soon as I cut through the first enchilada with my fork I could tell that they'd used real cheese for them. It was firm and chewy and didn't run out like white slime. I'll be back.

I enjoyed the Enchiladas Supremas, a dish of four different enchiladas ( ground beef, shredded chicken, bean, and cheese). Give this new restaurant in a quaint town a try!

That said, I think they were not prepared for the restaurant to be busy for lunch so they were understaffed. We got there after the lunch rush so they were in recovery mode. The issue with that is they were so busy cleaning tables that they disregarded 3 different families trying to pay their bill at the counter as well as us waiting to be seated. We didn't have to wait very long and we're not impatiently people. Once we were sat at a table, the were quick with service. Now, I typically shy away from fajitas because I think they are a little overpriced, but I was excited to see their's were on the lunch menu. They ended up being $3-4 cheaper which worked perfectly for me. I went with Chicken for my meat and it was seasoned pretty well. It's a nice portion as well. The waiter was quick and efficient during our time here. I'm glad they were open and we were able to check them out.

Los Potrillos in Iola has perfect beans, rice, tamales and fajitas!! Chips were hot and fresh, cheese-dip was perfect and the Margarita was out of this world!! We will be back. Our only complaint was there was no music. I love good Mexican tunes when I'm eating in Mexican joints. I might have had 2 Margaritas if there had been music!! Can't wait to try speciality items on their menu next time! Great service too.
