Looks and feels like any other typical small town Mexican restaurant. Was my go-to lunch place with co-workers when I lived in Chanute. Service is really good and the food is always above par (not great) for the course. I've tried numerous items off the menu and never been disappointed. Quality, however, varies on some days. Never seems to be consistent. You can order the same dish on two different days and have two completely experiences. That being said, would recommend if you need a quick lunch. read more

I've had lunch here twice and I still feel uncertain about the food. I know that it's not just because it's Kansas. I've had great Kansas-Mex. I know that it's not just because I live in Texas either. It seems to be an inconsistency in the quality, a lack of seasoning and creativity and a feeling of disappointment after the meal. The do have free tasty house salsa and chips. El Pueblito also has a good white queso dip. It's just cheese, though. No slivers of onion or pepper and fairly expensive considering what you get. This last visit, I ordered the pork chile verde with additional charro beans. I love salsa verde and green chile and actually had no quarrel with the sauce; but what was supposed to be tender chunks of pork came as dry chewy shredded pork and there was really no saving the dish. The charro beans were okay with a good broth. My tortillas arrived wrapped in foil; but they were cold. I sent them back and got barely warm ones in return. The tortillas appear to be house made and turned out to be very good. My friend had some small well seasoned chargrilled butterflied shrimp that were served unadorned on a cheesey rice. It was sort of white on rice. Not very interesting looking; but yummy. El Pueblito is a large restaurant with private parking. They've carved out intimate spaces inside and they have a track record for speedy lunch service. My food both times was average to unsatisfactory, served in above average surroundings with good climate control and in a thoroughly modern building. I wish the food impressed me as much as the building. read more

Nice place , very friendly employees , greeted well at door , waitress was very nice gave off recommendations on menu , chips and salsa brought out by buss girl , music playing , menu was plentiful , ordered taquitos beef and chicken , fresh full of flavor and meat 3 on each plate with rice and guacamole dip. This place is every bit as disappointing as the last time we were in Chanute. The ground beef in the taco is flavorless, the guacamole was thin and a very small serving. The beans were bland. The salsa was mediocre. The staff was friendly and the place looked good. Just do not expect decent Mexican food here. You are better off going to Taco John's. Staff: super friendly and spoke both English and Spanish. They truly embodies the Latino hospitality that is all to lacking in other Mexican restaurants. Environment: exactly what you would expect from a small town--nothing special, ample size which could accommodate large parties if need be. Looked like there was a sequestered room for such occasions. The music was as authentic as it gets; playing bachata and salsas with some mixtures of Mexican Banda. The place looked well kept and clean. Nothing seemed run down or worn; almost new if I had to guess. Food: The food was great--nothing that will blow your mind if you've traveled to Mexico or other Latin American countries. I ordered the carne asada and had leftovers. I've never had a bad experience at any El Puebleto until yesterday. Stopped in to place 3 different orders before heading to Wal-Mart. Figuring like any other restaurant that offers to go the food would be placed until heat lamps. Well, instead all of the food was sitting on a table when you walked in the front door where everyone walked by it. Instead of just letting me pick my food up and leave I was told it had to be handed to me. It had to be handed to me after sitting in the front lobby exposed on a table for who knows how long. The food was also not up to par ad it had been before. For $55 it could of been way better and not just thrown together. read more

We stayed in Chanute for 6 days getting our RV serviced. We ate here twice. We thought the food was really good. We went one of the times with our friends. We had different things and everyone enjoyed their meals. Be sure to try their shredded beef in the items that you pick. It is so tender and really delicious. We did come here a few years back and it was good then. The store was clean, they bus the tables as soon as someone leaves and the service was always excellent. The food was good, especially their little guacamole salad. When I saw it on the menu I just thought it would be some guacamole on some lettuce, but it was an actual little baby salad in a shell with queso and beef. It was very unique and tasty. BUT the service wasn't very good. I think the server was really overwhelmed. Delicious! My husband and I stopped for lunch after looking at rv's for sale. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly, and the food was very good! Mexican food is my favorite and this place did not let me down. I had the lunch chicken fajitas and he had the lunch combo with a burrito, taco, and rice. He said his food was very good. The food is alright, I've had way better mexican food in my day. Usually, I dont feel so well after eating here. I dont like eating here that much because the staff can make young girls feel uncomfortable. If they find you even slightly pretty, they stare at you while you eat, talk about you in spanish, bother you constantly, and it really makes it hard to enjoy your meal. The prices are slightly too high for the quality of food but I understand the prices for the quantity. Yes, the place is clean. Yes, they are great at refilling drinks and you dont wait forever for your meals. The place is nicely decorated but I honestly wouldnt recommend eating there. read more

Took my parents and little sister here when I was in town yesterday. The interior is really cute! The staff all speak Spanish, and since I do too, they let me practice on them. The food was very tasty, and I am happy to say they actually use queso blanco, which is much more authentic than shredded cheddar cheese. They did stick us in a booth where plants were hanging down around us, and kept getting in my mom's hair and face. We pushed them back, but not a lot of room on the ledge. I served in the U.S. Navy and have been to a multitude of restaurants all over the world. This is by far the best Mexican food I've had. The atmosphere is relaxing, friendly staff, and the service is amazing! My wife and I are loyal to El Pueblitos. I enjoy eating at this restaurant when we visit chanute. The menu items I have tried and like are the #10 on the lunch menu and the carne Asada. The lunch item is basically the same as the fajitas from the dinner menu. Very good the chips are warm when brought out. The charro beans are excellent. The rice is really flavorful. (No veggies which I prefer). I have ordered the carnitas with green Chile several years ago but I didn't care for the sauce (I have fresh green chilies each year from hatch NM so I am spoiled). But the pork was tender and good. My husband ordered the "new" shrimp tacos (basically. Can't remember the menu title) they were great too. A little bit of a delicious sear on the shrimp makes them super good. The staff is great and available. Smile and be friendly you will find it is contagious. read more

Food is good... My family and I have been there alot of times. This one waiter (the short chubby one with the rat tail) has a problem understanding english. We had a problem before with him and he got the order wrong. The next time we went there he waited on us again. When he asked what my daughter she wanted, my wife was going to tell him but the waiter stopped her and told her to let the kid tell him cause she makes the mistakes. BAD MISTAKE THERE. My wife let him have it and we walked to the front desk and she let the manager know, but he wouldn't do anything about it. I will be talking to the owner ASAP. read more
