I think everything on the menu is deep fried except the burgers. Service was great but there was only my SO and myself at the bar. Food was very greasy. This place appears to be the local hangout for the older farmers in the area to visit and have coffee or iced tea. There were 4 or 5 other people there but nobody was eating anything. Should have been a clue.

So this is my second review this place. Horrible customer service absolutely horrible. When they mess up an order they act like it's your fault. You call back they say they'll replace it and then they call you back and say it'll be an hour and a half or no they can't. Rhonda is absolutely a horrible person. I paid $34.09 for food I didn't even eat. Will never be returning to this establishment and I do not recommend it. It is food that you can make at your house for a lot less then you're going to pay that place.

People from all around the US have been here.

When we showed up, it was questionable due to only one car being in the lot. Well, it's a very small town so I guess one car is not unusual. While we were there, at least three other couples/families arrived for dinner. The place was good. Good service and great burgers. Wife didn't like the fried pickles but I thought they tasted like pickles that had been fried so I'm not sure what she was expecting. The onion rings were great. I like how they took pictures of customers over the years that were visiting from other states. Anyway, it's a good place to eat if for some reason, you are in the area. Bring cash as they don't take cards and the closest ATM machine is 10 miles down the road. Ask me how I know.

My wife and I journeyed to the Pittsburg, Kansas area to judge the chicken war for ourselves…read more Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's have been rival fried chicken restaurants there for decades. Our first stop was Chicken Annie's. The next night we went to Chicken Mary's. Both were very good in many ways. Service at both was efficient and friendly, but our server at Mary's was the most exceptional. Both restaurants have an old fashioned family eatery vibe, but Mary's was just a tiny bit nicer. At both restaurants the water had a slightly unusual off-note that was also noticeable in the iced tea. Both restaurants offer white bread from a well-known local Italian bakery. Honestly, it was no more special than any grocery store white bread. At Annie's it was fresher. At Mary's a bit stale. My wife tried the German potato salad at both and proclaimed Annie's far superior. We both had green beans at both restaurants. Both were very good. My wife liked Annie's the best. I preferred Mary's. Strangely, neither restaurant had real butter as an option, only the chemically "whipped spread" so my baked potato was untried. The star of the show is supposed to be the chicken. Portions were generous with both. The breading at Annie's was crustier. The breading at Mary's was flakier and lighter. The chicken at both was moist, but even juicier at Mary's. For this reason my wife and I agreed that Mary's was the winner of our contest. Many people have told us that one or another of these restaurants has "the best fried chicken I've ever had." Honestly, we can't agree. The fried chicken at the grocery store deli near our Roeland Park home is just as good. We have found the Brookeville Hotel in Abeline, Rye on the Plaza in Kansas City, and Stroud's in Overland Park to be infinitely superior to both Annie's and Mary's.

While the contests had to pick a winner, I must say that I really enjoyed the chicken offerings from both places. The chicken was well prepared, juicy and the crust was delicious. You cannot go wrong when having food from here. A five star experience!

When I explained that I was asking where they were from, she had to go find out. Turns out they had Delaware. So the next day we went to have some. I could literally smell them as she approached the table. We asked her to take them back because they smelt horrible. She told us that all oysters smelled horrible. When we denied that she said it might be because the fish truck would be there the next day so they were probably too old. Seriously? Who trains these waitresses? The rest of our order wasn't as we asked but it was ok. Won't be back.

Beer; that's the answer to all this restaurant's woes…read more Just make sure that you're at least three beers in before you order. The food is mostly deep fried and generally undercooked. Obviously, the fryer is under temp or the "Chef" (can you actually call them a chef?) didn't leave the frozen Alaskan Pollack in long enough to warm the center of the fish nuggets inside the fish tacos. It was mushy from under cooking. The baked oysters, described on the menu showed black pepper and parmesan cheese baked to perfection. I wondered if the person preparing them knew that they were supposed to put parmesan cheese on the oysters. The oysters showed up as baked oysters with black pepper and black pepper. If you are wondering if I'm always giving bad reviews? Look at my Applebees and Crabby Bills reviews. The service was lacking in something to be desired. Can you say, house flies? Sheese! Just do us all a favor and make sure you are at least two sheets into the wind before you decide to order.
