I got online and searched for "best barber shops in Queens." Right at the top of the search was Prestige Barbershop here in Lefferts. Honestly, I've walked past this place many times before without stopping. I had the impression that barbershops in Kew Gardens don't always deliver the best fades. Naturally, I assumed this one might be the same and planned to head to Jamaica for a fade instead. But these guys have done something smart. They have a website, offer online scheduling, and showcase all their barbers on Instagram. That's what made me decide to give them a shot. I checked out the barbers and their work on Instagram, and I was impressed -- their fades looked solid. That simple, smart move of being visible online and showing their skills won them a new customer. I told the owner kudos for that. Plus, booking an appointment was really easy and convenient with no back and forth or hassle. If you've ever dealt with barbers who make the scheduling process more complicated than it needs to be, you know what I mean. The cut looks clean, and I like it, though next time I might go back to a fade. I'm used to getting fades, but I'm open to trying new styles. I'll see how it grows out in the next few weeks. The plan was to do a cut that looks good now and continues to look good as it grows in over time. That part remains to be seen. Overall, I was quite satisfied with the haircut, the service, and the shop. This shop is more pricey than other places, but because of the quality, I don't feel as hurt paying otherwise what is realistically a steep price for a cut (hair and beard you're looking around $30+). Also, they're nice individuals as well. Shop has TVs all around and they'll either have live major sporting events on (NFL, NBA, etc.) Or a movie. Be prepared to wait because this shop gets busy. Busy to the point where they should invest in a sign-in queue so you know how long of a wait/ how many individuals are before you. The silver lining here is that some of these guys are just hanging out like this is a daycare, so they're not a part of "the line." Yes, these barbers are thorough, but on multiple occasions others have walked right into a chair while I continue to wait. The customer service here is terrible. None of the staff is accountable for managing turnaround. You will be told to talk to your preferred barber to find out how many heads he has in front of you. At $12 a cut, you have yourself a bargain at the possible cost of your sanity and a definite cost of your time.
