Pretty good place for a standard cut. Attentive and quick, if you don't a lot of time, Hills Barbershop moves very fast. The cuts are pretty standard, just make sure that you are specific with what you need and you should be ok. There are some barbers that do better than others, you'll have to find the one that works for you. read more

Walk-in's welcome! This was how I decided to try it out. My son was in desperate need of a trim and they looked promising from my window view of the action inside. Cool music playing from the awesome sound system and music videos on the TV while you wait your turn. Plenty of seats inside and a bench outside in case there's a long wait. From what I can tell, each barber had a pleasant demeanor and unless you had an appt or a specific stylist in mind; it was first come first serve, whomever was available. The barber my son got (sorry I didn't get his name, but his face is in my pics) was very nice. He checked in w/ me at the start - how I wanted to trim and what shape/look were we going for, then mid way, asked me again as he was cutting, he wanted to make sure that's what I wanted. Then just as he was to finish, he asked me to inspect once again for final approval. Kids cut was reasonable priced $15, but it goes by age as I noticed he asked. Older kids *$17. FYI. There was no wash and no dry on this visit for us. (I didn't see anyone get a wash either). I shall return, especially if it saves me a trip to Chinatown where I normally go. read more

Great barbershop in Forest Hills! They are very meticulous with your hair, and they do a great job with hair cuts, shaves and beard trims. Mike is a solid barber and will treat you well. They have 6 barbers working so the wait isn't too bad. It depends on which day you come and the time of day. Try to call ahead, which will definitely help. The parking in this area is primarily metered street parking. Make sure you choose the right parking zone number on the app because the opposite side of the street has a different number. You are lucky if you are in the "favorite" list. Otherwise they will make you wait until they serviced everyone on their list. I am not talking about customers with appointments. I am sure of at least 3 people who had no appointments who went ahead of me. I was ready to walk out until the owner said I was next. I never said a word. Alex, Vlad, and everyone they train become absolute masters at their craft thanks to years of experience that Alex and Vlad have under their belt. I've been going to these guys for over 20 years and have followed them from barbershop to barbershop no matter the neighborhood because they are consistent and have been building their skill for years. They are friendly, have a huge customer base (appointments are an absolute must), and these are some of the hardest working guys I know. They absolutely hate to turn people away but sometimes have to because they are GENUINELY busy ALL the time. Sometimes I don't even think these guys eat properly because they have to scarf down their meals in between clients. Do not confuse competitors in the area who changed their business names to sound similar to Hills Barbershop to try and mimic Alex and Vlad. Hills Barbershop is one and only. I'll never stop coming to these guys for any important events in my life because I know without any doubt they will have my back and go above and beyond to make sure I look good. They respect their craft and will not let you leave if your hair is not perfect. read more

I've been getting my hair cut for a long time. And out of the dozens of barbers I've been to, no one has been nearly as consistent as Alex. Over the past 4 years of getting a cut here, I can say with complete honestly I've never left unsatisfied. I can't even say that about Chick-Fil-A. Everyone who has Asian hair knows how hard it is to find a barber that will cut it right. The difficulty with Asian hair is that there's different cowlicks, head shapes, and hair will even grow out different directions on the sides, but Alex just knows what he's doing. It's probably why he is always completely booked up. From what I've seen, Vlad and the other guys do a great job too. I think the other reviews speak for themselves, so here's some tips for getting a cut here: 1. Taking the train is super convenient, the Ascan ave station is only a couple of blocks away. 2. If you drive, it's a lot easier to find a spot on the side streets between Austin and Queens Blvd. 3. Book an appointment beforehand. Seriously. I've made a mistake of forgetting to do it and you end up waiting because these guys are so popular. They'll do their best to accommodate you but just make life easier for yourself and for them, and book beforehand, it's not hard. I'll end with this, everyone who knows me knows how much I value time. But I've straight up driven 4 hours from upstate just to get a cut here. I've flown across the country to get a cut here. If you're tired of worrying about whether your next cut will be fresh enough, just come to Hills barbershop. read more

I was in NYC and needed a quick touch up and beard trim prior to my flight so the yelp search brought me here. What I saw and experienced was incredible. This was the best beard trim I have ever had! Some next level issh...certified by wifey and others. The dude that cut my hair was an absolute professional. I wish I remember his name! I did a walk in but the wait was not too long even though they were very busy. It looked like most were regulars with established relationships with their specific barbers. It was a joy to observe everyone's interactions while I waited. The sense of community was strong. But the thing I loved the most is the balance between getting an amazing haircut and the respect for people's times. I've been to shops that gets you in and out in 5 minutes with a poor crappy cut and I've been to shops that gives great cuts but takes hours in the chair not even including 40+ mins wait time because the barber is an artist that has to take his time, change the music, have shitty jokes, go out for smoke break ie. pretentious douche. Here though, all of the barbers were fast without sacrificing quality! And all this with reasonable prices! Alex, assuming the owner of the barbershop based on how he treats the other barbers, was the most arrogant, lack of client experience and the upmost inconsiderate behavior known to man. He sits towards the right second to the window right when you walk in. Took my son for a haircut, asked how long was the wait, he said 15 mins. No problem, my son and I waited. Alex told one of the barber to take us next, my son sat down on the barber seat. Barber asked what kind of cut would I like for my son and I responded a simple skin taper. Owner Alex then interrupted and said no you'll have to wait longer now because a taper is a complicated cut and asked my son to get off the chair and wait for another 30 minutes. Are you kidding yourself? Doesn't matter what kind of cut it is, if you told your barber to take us next after we waited, just have your barber do the cut. Instead Alex used his "ownership" of the business and told us to get off the seat and wait more due to a "complicated" hair cut. My son and I walked out obviously, wont be spending money in this barbershop anymore. Again this is the guy who owned a barbershop in Elmhurst called Alex Barbershop, obviously it is closed due to his unethical behavior. He sits towards the right, second seat from the window and off on Sundays, I suggest those who still continues to go to this dumbass of a barbershop go on Sundays. Benefit of that, Alex won't be there and the rest of the barbers are usually happier due to "daddy not being home for the day". Work on yourself Alex or this busy will shut the same way it did in Elmhurst. Good Luck. read more

Worst customer service I've ever experienced by Alex. Illiterate owner with an accusatory attitude, does not take any accountability for lack of communication. I've waited 20 minutes past my appointment despite calling and scheduling an appointment with one of the barbers. Did not complain then, until I showed up 2 minutes late to a subsequent appointment. The barber had already placed the guy in the chair saying I was too late. Alex started being rude and aggressive after I explained to him I was 2 minutes late, and not expecting them to give up my chair that quickly. They lost a potential loyal, high-paying customer because of their arrogance. Fortunately I have barbers that actually know how to communicate, and I can text them or they can text me about how far I am if I'm running LESS THAN 5 minutes late. I've been going to this shop for years - I've been to other barbers around FH beforehand. There's a reason why this shop is almost always packed - they give great service and haircuts. Vlad is the man to see - he's pretty busy so I would recommend going at non peak hours or (what I've been doing lately) go on their website to make an appointment - although everyone else has their followings (as all good barbers should). Covid regulations are enforced. People are masked, some stations have plastic shields, and they do watch the amount of spaces between guests for safety. 10/10 recommend this shop. read more

I went to New York for a wedding without getting a fresh cut before leaving. So, I need to quickly find a barber to clean my head up! I was able to message via Yelp to get a same-day appointment! The replies from Vlad were prompt! When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by Vlad and handed off to Matt. Matt made sure to ask questions before getting started, and he made me look fly AF for the wedding, like he promised! The whole shop was busy, and the banter was great from the barbers and the customers coming in and out as well. From flying to NYC, without a barber, it was great to be able to walk into Hills Barber Shop and be put in great hands with barber who love their craft and want to make you look good. They're not as nice as before.I went to get a haircut and despite me telling the guy what type of cut I wanted he kept saying no he knows what's best.His combs were also incredibly dirty,when I picked it up to show him the way I comb my hair I mentioned it covered in all different color hair and dandruff or dust or something and he didn't flinch to clean it. I'd say walk with cash and the right amount of tip you'd like.If you pay with card they charge you an extra 3 bucks on a basic haircut price,plus u get the stare when the tip screen comes up and feel compelled to leave a descent tip although you're displeased with your haircut. read more
