I went to this shop to give it a shot. The individual owner who runs this spot is nice but his price and his quality of service is ok ... When i was told the price few dollars more for haircut and few more for shave. I did not mind and said to myself lets do it ... if he's good, i don't mind paying extra compared to my only other barbershop Alex on Sutphin blvd. I ended up paying ($8) more than what i would have paid with my other barber and honestly the job was not close to his level. This is just my opinion. read more

When I left Astoria and moved to Fresh Meadows in 1993, I was in the quest for a new barber. I soon discovered Eddie's Barbershop by St. John's University; and enjoyed years of great haircuts and service from him and George. After George left, Eddie was hinting that his shop wouldn't last long. . .but in came Arthur, and he delivered on giving me and my kids great haircuts. I decided to stay on at the renamed New Generation. But Arthur stayed only for a while, and in came Mark. Mark continued to deliver great cuts and styles for me and my kids. I noticed that the staff around him stayed for a short time, looked like a high turnover of employees. Earlier this year, I witnessed one of his barbers, wearing a beard, having a difficult time with a boy who may have been 12 or 13. While I agree the boy could disagree politely with the barber's suggestion as to how his hair should be cut. . .he should not have been rude to the barber. To my profound shock, the bearded barber expressed his anger at the boy, and spoke a few curse words starting with "F." Unbelievable! Although he continued to cut the boy's hair. . .this gave me a very negative impression of New Generation. Mark was present when it happened; and he should not have allowed it. One day I came, and I saw Gabriel was the only barber, cutting someone's hair. It was Sunday, and about 30 minutes before closing. . .. I was hoping for Mark to be there and cut my hair. In comes a man who asked Gabriel if he could cut his hair after he finished with that customer. Gabriel told this man he cannot help him, because I was next, and the shop would close at 5 PM. I did something I never did before in a barbershop. . .I gave up my spot for this man, so he could get his cut on time. I had someone else in mind. . .he opened his own shop many months ago, and once saw me in the area. . .hint: he used to cut hair at New Generation. I went to Yury's Barbershop near St. Nicholas of Tolentine's Church and Yury, the owner, the man, welcomed me back not only as an old friend, but also as if I were a family member. I waited for him to finish with his customer, and as soon as I sat down, he asked me if I'd like my cut the same as he used to do it, or something different? I told him if you remember how he did it, go ahead. I received the haircut that I always wanted, with wash, and a hot towel in the end. . .and all that for a lower price than my previous barbershop. I came recently with my children who also used to get their cuts from Yury, and he treated the boys very well. . .and they were very happy with their new looks! Yury is one of the kindest people I've met. Throughout my numerous cuts I've learned about his family and his life. I initially cut my hair with him at New Generation and then did not realize that he had his own place until now. I was going to The Barbershop in forest hills (which is also great but parking is a hassle and it's far from my place). I found Yuri again today and I immediately drove over. And as usual he did not disappoint. He recognized me and even asked about the exams that I was studying for over two years ago. Very kind and skilled man. Excellent barbershop. I've been having a hard time finding a good barber in Queens, but it looks like I might have found the one. Went here for the first time and was pretty happy with the results. Yury has a good sense of style and symmetry. He pays attention to detail. He and his staff are pretty laid back, so it was a pleasant atmosphere. Wait area is comfortable with a large TV to watch while waiting. They had pop music videos playing. I would recommend to Yury to change the TV programming to something more interesting and less annoying, like sports or National Geographic. Men's haircuts are $14. You could find cheaper, but I think Yury's work is worth it. read more
