Extremely disappointed in the service from this place and cannot recommend. I live in an old house and having vintage knobs on the doors are part of their charm. Though I had written and said that the request was to have a vintage door knob with working skeletal key looked at for its potential use as key access, when Kyle got here, he flat out refused to even look at the vintage doorknob options, saying "I don't mess with those things." and insisted that the modern door knob (which I'd purchased as back up plan) was the only way to go. When I asked a second time for him to look at the vintage knob options, he waved it off and "I don't have time for that today." He could have passed on the gig, and let someone else take the job, but he took the job knowing that what it entailed, and then acted like it was too much of a bother for him. There is no excuse for "not having time" or "I don't mess with that" if you booked the appointment with the customer yourself. No one made him book the appointment. Again, I do not recommend, and we will be going back to our regular lock smith who was out of town this particular week. Thank god for people out there who actually care about old houses and the vintage parts they come with. That's not Kyle though. read more

Requested a few quotes through Yelp for a project that required rekey for handle and rekey for a deadbolt (smartkey). Got a quote from El Sobrante Lock and Key for $160 and they were able to come out the same day so I went with them. Service person came out and was very friendly. He said it would be easier just to replace the lock and said that's ok. We had a miscommunication somewhere along the way because it was replaced with a non-smart key system which meant that we have to carry an extra key on us. Not the end of the world, but I could see how this would be a major inconvenience for some folks. Also, I probably would have just replaced the system myself had I known earlier. I would say service was good but caution folks to be up front about all the details for a project. Lesson learned for myself. read more

Kyle was personable, efficient, and took care of everything with no muss, no fuss. He came to help with a new lock job on an antique door that was botched by another compay, figured out what it needed to make it work properly, made adjustments to the strike plate, and made extra keys for me. He also made adjustments to the screen door so it would close easily and quietly and replaced the lock on my back door. All of this in less than an hour. I see why they have 5 stars. I called about having a motorcycle key copied. They wanted to make sure they had the exact right kind of key before I come in, so as to not waste my time. Called me back later and told me to come on in. They copied it and I paid $10, all in under 10 minutes. Even assured me (without me asking first) that I can give them a ring if the key doesn't work. Went home, key works flawlessly. This is a particularly good experience because I've had other locksmiths in the past try to tell me that motorcycle keys are hard to copy. The others did a copy that didn't work at all, then tried to say it costs $250 to make me an original instead. I came here, and it was $10 in a flash for a working copy. Makes no sense. I needed a new front entrance lock and wanted to make it a smart lock. They suggested I purchase the hardware, just so I get the smarts in my smart lock just the way I wanted them. Kyle installed the locks. I was planning on just rekeying the existing deadbolt and garage door lock, but I couldn't see investing $25 on those old locks so Kyle came back a second day to provide and install a passage lock, deadbolt and entry lock for a couple of garage doors. OMG, what an improvement! Now I can't stop unlocking my door with my Apple Watch! The other locks work smooth as silk and we have better security because of how we configured the garage to house entry. These guys are fast, efficient, honest, reliable and reasonably priced!
