Let's just say $16 isn't a bad price to replace a battery--but what I found unacceptable was the lack of responsibility and negligence this place showed when handling my watch. I barely use my watch and kept it in its original packaging, so it was literally in pristine condition. But when I got it back, it had visible scratch marks all around it. I even asked him twice if he could change the battery, and he said yes. For this particular watch, he admitted having a hard time removing the back plate. He said he tried several tools and even had to remove the rubber around the plate to close it. I inspected one of the metal tools he used--it had chipped edges, which likely caused the scratches. I tried to argue that he damaged my watch, but he gaslit me into thinking I made those scratches myself and refused to take any responsibility. I reluctantly paid because the argument was going nowhere. All I can say is: avoid this place, or at least have proof--because they will lie and gaslight their customers just to avoid accountability. read more

I have passed this place several times as it's next to my favorite taco spot in the area. I went by yesterday and noticed it was open so I popped in. I needed a house key for my daughter and was looking to support a small business. The selection of keys was OK. I didn't find what I wanted but I settled on something I thought was cute. They gentleman made my key, gave me the price and I handed him my card for payment. "I don't take card." Well, I looked all around the shop for any sign that said cash only, or no card accepted, or any mention of payment or price listing. There was none and unfortunately I had no cash. So I asked if there was any signage indicating that, and his response was, "Well, everyone knows I only take cash." "Who is everyone? I've never been here before and there is no sign saying anything about your payment policy" (maybe I should have asked, but it definitely should've been posted). "Well I already cut your key" "And I don't have any cash, so can I come back later or.....how does this work?" So he tells me I can come back later. I leave my name and number and head to the atm. I come back, I give him money and he thanks me. I ask for a receipt. He struggles to find one and the other customer inside says "he's good for that." I took my watch here to have the battery replaced. My watch had ALWAYS functioned perfectly before taking to this store. However, when I took my watch backpacking that weekend I could not cycle through the various functions as I had for years and after a bit of troubleshooting realized that when this store owner replaced the battery he didn't fit the case on properly so the function buttons no longer worked. Hoping that this store owner would recognize his error he would quickly and happily remove the case and refit the case on the watch so the function button would work again which would take approximately 60 seconds. I was correct in my diagnosis but after this store owner took my watch and fixed it he said I owed him additional money to fix the problem that HE CREATED. I told him that my watch functioned perfectly before I brought it to him and that he simply didn't fit the case on properly. He insisted I owed him more money to pay him for the problem he created. He got adamant and insisted I pay him more money. I told him that he should honor his work and admit the mistake he made. He wouldn't back down and insisted I pay him $6 more dollars. So I told him I would never return any business to him and warn others of his greediness. Be forwarned! This little old man is a greedy, little sneaky crook who would screw over his customers just to make an extra buck. DO NOT TAKE YOUR BUSINESS TO THIS GREEDY NASTY LITTLE CROOK. The store is filled with many styles and sizes of keys which I think was very helpful. The prices of his services and products is very very reasonable and affordable. I procrastinated and needed the back of a watch engraved ASAP. I looked on Yelp and this store popped up as the first suggestion. Initially, I was skeptical as this store is called Pinole Key and & Gift Shop - with no mention of any watch engraving services. I called and the shop owner, Mr. Tom let me know that he could do it within an hour. Trusting my instincts, I went to the store (which is located in a strip mall and has plenty of parking), picked out a font that I wanted, and Mr. Tom told me to come back in an hour. I returned an hour later and the engraved watch was already waiting for me. Mr. Tom showed me his work and I was a very happy gal. Not only was it everything I wanted, but it was reasonably priced as well (keep in mind he only accepts cash)! Super friendly, super fast and super reasonably priced! I couldn't have asked for anything more. It took me longer to pick out the right keys because he has such a huge assortment! And I just had to have the cool designed ones! 4 keys in less than a minute! Shabang! However, only 3 out of 4 worked from the start! Three visits didnt fix it and to this day I still have to bring it back for a refund. Came back during a weekday a couple of days later when I happened to get out of work early and made it to the shop an hour before closing time!!! ....only to find they were closed. I called the shop number and the person I spoke to (the owner I guess?) said he closed early because he wanted to do something at home . I was so disappointed! Came back again Saturday morning and he made some adjustments. Tried it and it still didn't work. So on the third visit (2 weeks later) I tried to tell him what I thought was the problem - there was a tiny part of the key that was just about a half millimeter longer than the actual key. However, he didn't listen and remade the key from scratch with the same design, ensuring me a full refund if it still didn't work. Well, it has the same exact problem/defect so, of course, it didn't work. I haven't had time to go back to his shop a fourth time to return the key so I'm hoping that he doesn't forget he said I can get a refund for it when I do. read more

Located in the plaza just before Fitzgerald Drive on Appian Way, where Uncle Chung's is, this is a gem of a service. The utterly sweet and very kind owner works quickly and cheerfully. Open from 10-5 during the week, he does not accept credit cards but will take a check, so you want to come prepared with cash or check book. He changed the batteries in my garage door opener and Prius key in less than 5 minutes. He mentioned that the Prius key had the wrong battery and, surprisingly, he had the correct one, which he replaced immediately. He says he is able to fix a broken necklace for me as well. My friend was pleasantly surprised at the comfort of the office chair thoughtfully provided so that waiting customers can sit down while service happens. The energy of his small shop is unusually serene so that the experience is of walking into an oasis. The keys shaped like cats are pretty attractive to a crazy ol' cat lady and he has jewelry for sale as well. I had to find a place to get my battery replaced for 2 of my watches. Both of them high end watches. I thought I would try the closest one Pinole key. I give 1 star based on my experience. First of all there is nothing posted that only cash is accepted. I called first and asked about the repair and nothing was mentioned about the accepted form of payment. When I arrived and also while I was waiting, nothing was said that only cash is accepted. It was only when the job was finished that he said that only cash would be accepted! He said that everyone knows he only accepts cash! Well I'm a new customer. how is one supposed to know when it it is not displayed or disclosed anywhere!! To top it off, he said that I had to leave one my watches to ensure that I returned with the $29 cash!! Wow! I hope this business owner becomes more forthright and courteous with customers in the future and let folks know the cash only policy right away. Stay away from this place. I made the mistake of bringing my watch here. In trying to set the date and time on my watch after replacing the battery, the owner broke the windup piece. What's worse is he tried to act as though he had no idea that the piece was broken as he handed it to me. He asked me to try to se the date and when the piece fell in my hand he acted as though he was clueless. I bought a Fossil watch online and it came in too big, so I went to this little shop (recommended by my dad) to get it resized. I tried to resize it myself, but I just ended up chipping two of the links. =( If my dad didn't recommend this place, I wouldn't have seen it, but I am glad that I found it. I got my watch resized for $9 under 5 minutes. He even took out the links that I had chipped when trying to resize the watch myself. He did an amazing job and upon paying, I decided I wanted one of those rubber liners for the head of a key and he threw it in for free (well, it was only 35 cents) But it was a nice gesture. I went home the same day and tried on my watch and after wearing it for a few hours, I realized it was still way too big. After debating whether I should go back and try to get it resized again (I didn't want to pay again), I ended up going and he took one more link out for free (since I had just been there the day before) Not to mention he took about 2 minutes! I would recommend this place to anyone. He has great customer service and is very accommodating as well! 5 STARS! read more
