Customer service is always awesome! Authentic food and the best Queso is the reason we come back! Consistency on food makes this place easily a five-star restaurant. Starting with drinks, they have all of the classics, Corona's ect. but for me it's all about the margs. I get a classic and add Paton tequila for a sharper/ more tequila taste. It's hard to go wrong with Cazadores or there rail ones too. Food! I'm a huge fan of the lunch menu. Perfect proportions for lunch with amazing prices. Dinner menu I love fajitas, combination chicken and steak. Awesome quality and plenty to take home. I also love enchiladas, chicken is awesome but beef is where it's at. Shredded beef is amazing and you will not regret your decision. I also like to pair queso with the meals. More cheese always makes it taste better. Overall. Great restaurant. We come down from the cities and this is a hidden gem in the south metro. Also a location in Northfield. read more

I got the burrito mojado, the Guacamole was brown should use more lime juice. The sauce was very bland, although they charged me for a more spicy salsa the one they gave me with chips was watered down and had the flavor of tomato sauce. It's better than Taco Bell, however I'd gladly pay more for better ingredients. read more

El Tequila is one of my most favorite places to eat- authentic Mexican food. It's about 45 minutes from the cities, would I drive there to just eat there? Probably not, but if I happened to be in the area, I would definitely make my way there, even for take out. The exterior is a dated orange building sitting on the side of Lyndale Ave amongst unkept tall grass, a little dilapidated but don't let that turn you away. Once inside you're greeted by familiar faces of the family that keeps the operation going, the smell of freshly cook tortilla chips and more orange walls reminiscent of a Hacienda, decorated with traditional art and pottery. Once sat, complimentary chips and salsa are bought to the table. Pro-tip: ask for seconds. The salsa is made in house, a liquid salsa consistency married together with chunks of onions, cilantro and tomatoes creating this robust umami flavor of goodness! I have drank the salsa before, it's okay. On to the rest of the food, I highly recommend the Molcajete and Burrito de Asada. The Molcajete is for someone who can't decide on their protein (so why not, have it all?); it is a mix of chicken, beef, pork and shrimp comes out sizzling hot in a Molcajete served with rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream and tortilla. It's essentially a DIY burrito/taco/wrap- what could go wrong? Burrito de Asada is also served with rice, lettuce, salsa and sour cream; pro-trip: ask to "spice it up" for an extra kick or on the side if unsure about spicy levels. I love this place the only thing that is not "good" is there is NO ambiance but its a Mexican restaurant so is it really post to be relaxing. Ordered 3 dishes - chicken/steak fajitas which was tough & fatty Pork burrito was a small portion of dried up pork in green verde Pork verde dish was the same dried pork with green chili sauce Overall the margarita was the best thing so they cannot even say authentic mexican food If you want good Mexican go the The Depot restaurant in Faribault or go to the Gran plaza in Northfield and you will not be disappointed. Went with a coworker on a Tuesday at about 11am. We were the first diners here today. Greeted with a smile and seated pretty much immediately, got our pick of where to sit--booth seating for the win! The space: This restaurant has a small parking lot for maybe 2 dozen vehicles. It sits next to a big empty lot where a KMart used to exist. The building itself could use some touching up but I've been to worse-looking places and had great food so I wasn't fooled by the exterior. The interior is colorful (as is just about every Mexican restaurant I've been to) and proud. The dining area has 6-7 booths and at least the same number of tables. The food: I felt a little overwhelmed by the number of menu items but decided on #21, a combo platter of taco/enchilada/tamale. For the meat option, I went with pork (extra $1-1.99). Now, I'm used to strong flavors so I was a little disappointed that everything was so bland. The Spanish rice was just ever so slightly hard, it didn't taste freshly made. There was a point where I questioned myself if I was eating chicken or pork--the meat was cube-shaped, a little dry, and very white in color (like what you'd expect from chicken), not pulled or fall-apart juicy. The tamale was probably the most flavorful item on my plate, but still lacking a lot of punch. Taco wasn't anything to write home about, the shell had been fried which was all right, but soggy and falling apart wherever it touched liquids (sauce, steam, etc). I think I would've just preferred a soft shell. I did order a fruity daiquiri and it looked fun, was...fruity tasting. Haaa! It melted rather fast and wasn't too boozy for me. ;-) Service: Great! Very attentive, super polite and always smiling. There were about 4 other tables, ranging between 1-4 people each, by the time we were ready for our check. Service was consistent from beginning to end. And of course, how was the bathroom? Hmmm...it was clean but felt like a closet turned bathroom in the back of the kitchen. Flush was weak, faucet was all right, hand soap was the watery pink kind. I didn't like having to reach up to get a paper towel--the water on my hands ran down my elbows. There is an air freshener...but no fan/vent...so, time your potty break or just hold it. I probably wouldn't go back again, mainly because I've had much more impressive Mexican cuisine elsewhere. If you can't handle spices and strong flavors that pack a punch, this might be a good place for you--just not for me. Service was great though! read more

We always eat at the other main Mexican restaurant in town but thought we'd try El Tequila tonight. Spent $45 for two entrees and chips and salsa and it was terrible! Never again, way overpriced for very bland food and the carne asada was tough and very fatty, couldn't even eat it. read more

Good prices, and plenty of menu options to choose from. One interesting note on the menu listed the complimentary chips and salsa as "Limited." I guess someone had to ruin it for everyone. This is a little gem for well cooked and delicious Mexican food. My two favorites are the Arroz Con Camerones and the Picodilla Enchilada. They also provide an excellent salsa and chips that is hard to beat. At one point this was the absolute best restaurant in Faribault. It still remains in the top 2 spots depending on whether we're in the mood for Mexican or Italian! Wait staff is always friendly and this place has a family-owned atmosphere. For it's relative obscure location, this place was surprisingly good. I've been very fortunate to have grown up with some great homemade hispanic food made by my brother-in-laws mother and this place had some good food. I wouldn't say great but it was good. I ordered a breakfast burrito lunch combo, Chorizo & Eggs, I'm more used to finely ground chorizo but in the midwest that's hard to find The chorizo was good overall, it had a little kick and the rice & beans that came with the lunch special was decent. On our way to a wedding, our stomachs were grumbling and we stumbled upon this place. The looks of the place, as you're pulling up, can be rather intimidating, but don't let that fool you. The parking lot was full, and we walked in to a full restaurant. Everyone sitting at the tables seemed to be enjoying themselves. We were seated pretty quickly. The menu offers all sorts of your typical Mexican/American dishes. We were greeted by a server immediately and water/chips and salsa were delivered as well. I used to love this place back in my high school days! I always remember good food, hot plates, and attentive/prompt service. Their shredded beef tacos/enchiladas combination plate was my absolute favorite, although I think they also had a pretty good chile relleno. OMG, and really good fried ice cream, with lots of honey! Great find in Faribault--thank you Yelp!! We arrived near closing time but were treated like the 1st customers of the day!! Tacos al carbon were good--not over dressed with fixings allowing the meat to be the star, a little guac and lime were all that were needed. Chile Relleno was well cooked with a perfectly creamy center Chips/salsa were better then normal served with a smile! Only thing missing for me was the lack of Carnitas(pork) on the menu but there was an abundance of shrimp dishes----and the beer was served well chilled too! read more

This place is so yummy. My family just moved out here from PA, and I grew up in TX, and I have been struggling to find a good Mexican place out here (Mexican food is my weakness). Every time we come here to El Tequila, I just LOVE what I'm served. What specifically? My husband got fajitas once and I did not care for them, which is unusual for me because that is usually my go to at Mexican restaurants. The flavor was good, but texture of the chicken was chewy. However, their enchiladas are amazing, as is their green Verdes sauce and red sauce. Their salsa tastes authentic and has a kick, but not too much. We first tried their Owatonna location based on reviews, then Faribault, New Prague, and Faribault 2-3 more times. I highly recommend you give them a shot; and if you love enchiladas, try theirs... You won't be disappointed! PS - service has been awesome every time we went to Faribault, so-so at New Prague, and good in Owatonna. read more

This is a great little Mexican joint, I've had the pleasure of being here more than a couple times with extended family and it was always good food and good fun. I do recall the drinks being a little light on alcohol (big margaritas). I walked in and was not greeted by any if the 3 workers standing near the door. So I decided to walk in and find a seat. There were 4-5 tables empty in the back so I walked up to grab a menu. When I got my menu someone asked me if I had a takeout order. I said no, I'm just going to have some lunch. He said how many are you. One. Oh, I have a spot for you and he took my menu and walked me past two more empty tables to place me in a corner behind a large family that would have basically smothered me. I said, I picked out a table on the other side can I sit there? He said no because if we get busy we might need that table. It was 2PM on Sunday and they had at minimum 7 empty tables. I don't believe that they have a house specialty or a signature dish, nor do they have a happy hour.
