Another great night at Redemption. Service and atmosphere-- always great. Foods: Appetizers - smoked chicken wings with blue cheese. Must have if you like wings. Entrees - Truffle burger with fries. Layers flavored ingredients bring the satisfaction to you. - Loaded potato soup. Very rich and creamy. - 20oz Porterhouse steak with asparagus. Personally would not recommend. We stopped by Redemption Restaurant on our way through Faribault on a Sunday afternoon and we're pleasantly surprised by our experience. The building and decor were cool and interesting to look at. The menu and food were lovely, there were several things we wanted to try. The most noteworthy food item was the burrata appetizer, it was wonderful! The service was relatively slow but there were several large groups that were being waited on at the same time we were and our waitress did acknowledge and apologize for the wait. Ambience was lovely! My fiancé and I brought my mom here as a little treat. She's visiting for the week and she said it was very good! She's been craving steak all week and it definitely hit the spot! The service was very friendly and we appreciated the constant check ins we received. For the drink I got - I think the ice cubes were made of something spicy. (As my drink melted it got a little spicy) was a good drink but if you don't like spicy then this drink might not be for you. I review businesses based on their water cups. Bruh a plastic water cup at an establishment like this is wild. We looked around and everyone else had proper glass cups. Felt like I was sitting at the kids table type of vibe lol. With that being said, the staff were chill but some clearly had more experience with serving than others. The food is great and the atmosphere is equally great. (Solid 4/5 for the food.) Definitely planning to go here again and would recommend it to anyone. Once we figured out where to enter, Redemption has a warm and yet bold atmosphere. The outside is open or a covered section for seating. inside the space of the main room provides a great view of the bar or the chef area. The basil margaritas is hand muddled and excellent. A gard salad and steak crostini was plenty for my meal. Steak was tender and juicy on crostini seasoned perfectly.- plenty. The grilled meatloaf was also ordered - with great beans and garlic/onion mashed potatoes. The portion was huge and the meat was grilled like a lean steak. We were at Redemption for brunch. Group of 9 of us. Nice dining area. A little echoey but we loved the atmosphere. Nice cocktails, Bloody Mary with plenty of stuff, nice beer selection, not excessive but some nice options. Food was great. I had the Austin breakfast which was fried spam on an English muffin with eggs and hollandaise sauce. I can't help it but I like cooked spam. My wife had the chicken fried steak and loved it. Great server and the management checked on us a few times as well. Semi open kitchen. There's a room downstairs that looks like they might have music occasionally. I had been to all the other short-lived restaurants in this building (haunted??!!) but had yet to try REDEMPTION. We tried it out today for Sunday Brunch and had a great experience. Attentive staff and a nice layout... and the food was great!! The prices were very reasonable and the quality & portions were solid. There were giant screens for football fans and a long bar area to the east. It is a beautiful space with a lot of natural light. Nice downtown post office views. It took a long time to get our food, but they had a big group in the back apparently... so maybe save this place for when you have time to lounge. -Note on the hash photo-- they forgot my eggs the first time around so they didn't make the photo, but our server resolved the missing eggs ASAP! Re: accessibility, the bathrooms are located in the basement and a staff member has to send the elevator to the first level due to apartments in the building. FYI for wheelchair/walker users in your party! Definitely recommend Redemption brunch, and I hope they stick around! read more

Second time eating here and even better than last time. Beautiful restaurant and great atmosphere. Service was excellent with very friendly and attentive waitress. Stopped in around the dinner hour and sat at the bar. Our bartender was very welcoming and attentive. She recommended the crostini steak appetizer. This was the highlight of our meal. After the app, we ordered two sandwiches, the pulled pork grilled cheese and chicken bacon pesto sandwich. We both agreed the chicken pesto was the better of the two, with both being good sandwiches. First time at Redemption. Arrived at about 6 pm without a reservation and was seated immediately. They were busy which made me optimistic about the food quality. Our server arrived within a couple of minutes for our drink order. I had the southern fried chicken with the green beans and buttermilk mashed potatoes. I got the queso cheese sauce on the side. The chicken had a nice brown crust and was exceptionally moist. The green beans were fresh and seasoned perfectly, and the fresh mashed potatoes had a nice blend of small lumps within the creaminess. Obviously I loved the meal. The only downfall was, I ate almost all of it and did not have room for dessert. It might get a little loud in there, but that doesn't bother us. We will be back, and looking forward to trying other dishes. read more

I was meeting up with an old buddy after about 2 years of not going out to lunch together due to the pandemic and other life events. It was mid-afternoon on very warm Sunday and many of the small restaurants in the Faribault area (specifically American fare) had closed early or were only open a few days during the weekdays. We were both surprised and quickly looked for whatever was still open (and new to us) and my friend ran across Redemption Restaurant. They were open for a few hours yet, and had menu items that seemed to match what we were looking for, so off we went. Buddy tells me the building housing this restaurant used to be an old furniture warehouse back in the day. It's big, spacious, brick, with tall ceilings and one can see a pretty penny has gone into remodeling it. It's more upscale than most restaurants you'll see in a small town like Faribault--more something you'd find in, say, Lowertown St. Paul. Most patrons were in groups of 4 or more, some bigger groups looked like they'd just been let out from church. It wasn't overly noisy and still felt a little empty. Nice ambiance for a Sunday afternoon. My buddy ordered the smoked beef brisket, minus the potato puree. While she enjoyed it (she was famished), I thought it was just "okay". It definitely needs a starch (the potato puree), and I felt the caramelized apple/bourbon sauce was a bit thin. I didn't like the cut of meat--too stringy and a bit tough to cut through. The grilled vegetables were sheet-cut yellow and green zucchini. Maybe I tend to set my bar too high, but I felt the plating/presentation/cuts were amateurish. I will point out that my buddy was not wowed by this dish despite saying it was good. I had decided to play it safe and ordered the pasta carbonara. There had been some hesitations prior to ordering because I'd looked at the photos and reviews of this restaurant on yelp--most of the positive reviews were more about the building and staff than the food: a red flag to me. I should've listened to my gut. When the pasta carbonara came out, it did NOT look right. The cook had messed up big time--there were a bajillion little lumps of boiled egg yolk instead of the smooth, creamy sauce one would normally find in this dish. I stared at the plate, wondering which step they had screwed up on to get this result. Yes, I did taste it--it was tasteless and dry. Where was the garlic? There were no chili flakes either. There were perhaps about 6 quarter-sized pieces of grilled chicken, about 6 tic-tac-sized pieces of diced pancetta--and let's not forget the one short, dark, curled hair that I also found buried in the pasta. I pushed the entire plate away. I had had better-tasting play-doh. The young server, while polite and neat in appearance... that was the extent of her skills. Maybe she's new? Maybe she's nervous? I had asked her if this was supposed to be what I'd ordered. I even pointed out the wrong photos on their online menu--to which she made a show of admitting that the site needed to be updated. But she didn't bother asking whether there was anything wrong with my dish (hint: something is obviously wrong if a patron barely touches their food). She was more invested in questioning repeatedly whether or not she should keep the change for my friend's bill. For what it's worth, I tip 20% minimum at all restaurants in the USA (even for crappy food/service) and my buddy followed suit. Restrooms are down the steps, past an iron cage (dungeon-like, anyone's guess as to why an old furniture warehouse would have this). Clean, no thrills. Toilet flushes are super weak though. Is the building pleasing to look at? Yes. Are the servers nice? Polite but very basic. Is the food good? Absolutely not. I can understand and maybe appreciate that Redemption is going for a more upscale vibe in a small, dead-ish, midwestern town, but that's likely the problem there. Perhaps the lack of patrons means the cooks don't get to practice making the signature dishes much, and therefore the dishes look/taste like they're cooked and plated by a grade-schooler. The restaurant reuses paper menus spattered with sauce, and don't even bother updating their site. The price points of their dishes are too high for such abysmal quality, and front of house staff need training on the finer points of reading their patrons/patience/and the ability to hold brief conversations about the establishment/menu (current staff seem more appropriate for a dive bar or fast food place). The cooks either need to be let go or undergo heavy training under a watchful eye. Allowing this carbonara to even come out of the kitchen is embarrassing. I'm being kind, really. There's potential, it may be far away and it may require more work than what the current owners are willing to put in, but I believe every small town needs at least one nice, fancy restaurant. Unfortunately, Redemption likely won't get a chance to redeem itself with me. read more

We were in Faribault for a Shattuck- St. Mary's graduation. One night we had a reasonably good Mexican dish at The Depot. To celebrate graduation, we went to Redemption. First of all, the menu was limited with nothing very appealing. And Ai love any kind od food. Finally, I ordered a lettuce wrap, hardly a good choice for a celebration dinner. It was disgusting. The food is good but the wait staff should be more personable and if you serve good Whiskey you should have good water as it is important to the palate in food as it is in alcohol so at least have a good water filter if your putting it in nice bottles & good eye contact when you're talking to customers goes along way's. We were regulars here until our last visit when they changed the menu. We are healthy eaters and loved coming here for the steak, potato (plain) and broccolini. In our last visit they removed the baked potato and broccolini off their menu (amongst other things) and not only were we told we were out of luck but when we tried to substitute the mashed potatoes for more healthy side options (there really are none anymore) and we were told we could not. Although we are Faribault residents and prefer to keep our money in town we will just travel 30 minutes for better food at Porterhouse, healthier options and better service. Maybe that is why you have to book Porterhouse well in advance and for Redemption there are plenty of tables available the day of on a FRIDAY and SATURDAY. Change your menu back to some healthier options and we would consider coming back. I have to believe we are not the only ones who feel this way. But our food came out and the side dishes were cold (mashed potatoes), the Ribeye was very tough and had a lot of gristle. We have eaten at Redemption several times, but the food has been hit or miss. We have been hoping to find our go to restaurant, but we haven't found the consistency that would be expected for the price you have to pay. Redemption is the most inconsistent restaurant. The menu changes constantly - not value add, but disappointing instead. They literally take their best sellers off the menu. It is super weird. Each time I return for one of my favorite things, that favorite thing no longer exists or they have modified it for the worst. For example: their Caesar salad was exemplary with whole baby romaine halves, fantastic dressing drizzled over the romaine halves pooling on the plate. Now, it is the average cut up salad tossed in dressing. Their salmon was seared crispy and moist on the inside. Lots of flavor. It was a tiny piece that looked like 4 oz. Amazing and not just "for Faribault". Food, service, ambience. All 5 stars. We ordered the bbq for 2, which was food for 4 and is still amazing today. They served it with sauce on the side because there's no need to hide the flavor of perfectly cooked, good quality ribs, chicken, pork and andouille. Our friend had the salmon and the kids each ordered from the unpublished kids menu. Everyone loved their meal. Our server was attentive, friendly and offered another cocktail at just the right time. In this time of understaffed, over stressed restaurants, it felt like pre Covid times when going out for a nicer dinner was an experience. We were seated in the back of the restaurant with great natural light - perfect for the wall of plants that contributed to a high end yet comfortable environment. Finally, the ladies room was clean and beautifully designed with tile and granite. Completely unexpected and representative of the clear attention to detail at this restaurant in general. Redemption has been a favorite restaurant when I am in Faribault. However, I met my friends there last night and we were all very disappointed in the new menu. The only favorite thing left was the steak crustini. I got the Shrimp PO Boy and it was just okay. The shrimp were small and the roll was huge so you had a lot more bread and onions than shrimp. The service is very good our waitress was excellent and took in stride our complaints about the menu. Today I looked at the brunch menu online (so it may not be accurate) AND all the favorites are on there. Crab Cake egg rolls, lettuce wraps, Louisiana Shrimp and Nachos.
