We came for the paella! Traditionally on Sundays, we will drink Spanish vermouth, then eat a lovely paella. We got in without a reservation. That was luck. Unfortunately, we could not get a beach view. The table was sticky from the previous party. Oh well. We ordered red vermouth, but they only had "Martini" OH well. The paella came in 40 minutes as promised. We also ordered a bottle of Rosé. They did not have the one we wanted, so they substituted. Oh well. The paella was pretty great. 7.5/10. They could have crisped it up a bit more, but I understand they won't because tourists think it's burnt. The chicken was a bit dry. Watch out for chicken bones!! The langostena and gambas were good. If you love seafood, then you will love this paella as it's flavor is so unique and intense (in the best way possible), as well as the fish being so fresh! Their house salad is nothing special, as it lacked flavor and their veggies didn't seem that fresh. We also had their Valenciana paella, which has chicken and rabbit, but it was too overcooked and that not juicy. Service: Very nice and attentive staff. This is a calm seafood restaurant by the beach, with a relaxing view of the ocean. I recommend their orange juice sangria, since Valencia is known for their oranges. It's sweet and crispy and very refreshing! The potatoes bravas are fluffy and light, and extra creamy with the white sauce over them. The calamari is surprising! The pieces are so thickly cut, you would think it is tough and chewy, but fear not, it is extremely tender. The outside is crispy and the inside is soft. I was very pleasantly surprised by the texture here. The mussels were quite standard; they had a bit of the briney ocean taste to them, but it's not as pronounced after being slathered in fresh lemon juice. The acid from the lemon really makes the suppleness of the mussel pop. Lastly, the seafood paella was well seasoned and standard! The rice was rich and sprinkled with veggies throughout to lighten the dish from becoming too heavy. Overall, this is a relaxing dinner spot by the beach. read more

The disappointment that I feel when I tell you that I had ordered just a paella and it took over 50 minutes. We watched other people get their orders, and two tables get their paella and finish it before we even got ours. They clearly did not put our order in. We never actually got our order. we just paid for our drinks and just left: Just this alone tells me not to come here because the service is terrible and when asking the status of our order, it was brushed off. read more

If you're looking for a great family friendly restaurant with an amazing view this is it! The food was delicious and drinks were great but the service and attention our server Juanito gave us was like nothing we had experienced in the previous two restaurants we had dined in near the beach. We were dreading a long wait like we had at other places but he made sure we were taken care of and that the food came out promptly. We had the fried calamari and grilled octopus for starters. Then they brought out our paella and Oreo cake for dessert which were incredible. Cappuccinos were way better at El Trompo than at our hotel. We highly recommend it! read more

We spent a day at the beach and were starving so we walked around trying to find a beachside restaurant that looked appetizing. This place fit the bill. They had ample outdoor seating with great views of the sea. It took a while for someone to come and give us menus and to take our order as well and it appeared to be an issue with others seated around us as well. With the outdoor seating came people wandering off the boardwalk and asking for money at our tables or attempting to sell goods right at the table. They would quickly leave when asked for the most part though so this did not deter us. They had menus in English, though they did not seem to have any servers who spoke English very well. This wasn't a big issue for us because my husband can speak Spanish but this could be problematic for others if they do not speak Spanish. We ordered a fideua and it was so flavorful and the seafood tasted very fresh. We absolutely loved it and wanted more! read more
