After some online research, we made reservations here to try some classic Paella Valencia. The website recommends to provide at least a day notice for that specific paella - since it has rabbit in it I'm guessing the restaurant needs time to prepare the ingredients. The waiter was very nice, helpful, and spoke enough English to accommodate us. We ordered a bottle of red that was local to the region and recommended to pair well with the paella. It was so good. For food we started with foie gras (had to try it at least once but probably won't get again) and then split the Valencia and Seafood paella between 4 people. The foie gras was really good. The paellas were both good but not quite as good as expected. The Valencia one was very salty. The next day on the trip we did a paella cooking class and made a Valencia Paella and the seasoning was much better. So I'm not sure if the saltiness is normal for Raco del Turia or if we just got a fluke. The seafood paella was delicious and not as salty. Portion wise, 2 paellas was more than enough for 4 people but we did finish everything. I can't say if this was touristy or not. Another place that came up was La Pepica and that seemed to be way more touristy based on reviews and the location on the beach. read more

A very important mission was entrusted to this place - to show us a Valencian cuisine at its best. We came here to taste Paella Valenciana and we did it. I can't say that we were very impressed. Surely, it was well cooked and tasty, but we had no wow. Just one more good paella. It seemed to us that for such money the food should be outstanding. It cost something like 40 euros per 2 persons. Without a doubt, you can say that it was not expensive but I want to emphasize that I was lucky to try a better paella for a more reasonable price. Dined here late on a Sunday night and there was still a small wait to get in. They seated us as quickly as possible. The service excellent and the staff hardworking and attentive. We ordered the salad with goat cheese, nuts and fruit and the seafood paella. Both were fantastic. This is my second time touring through Spain and by far this is one of the best Paellas I have come across. We took a weekend side trip to Valencia in the middle of time in Spain. We had already been in Barcelona for 5 days and had not eaten a proper paella, and I'm glad we had our first one at Racó del Turia. This was a beautiful restaurant with white napkin service, really friendly people, and they have menus in different languages. We were lead to the back dining room and as we passed by the kitchen, my wife noticed two elder Spanish abuelas behind the stove, a really good sign of good things to come. I had seen pictures of the grilled squid on tripadvisor and Yelp, so we had to order it as an appetizer. Pictures don't do justice to how fresh and flavorful the squid was, and it was cooked perfectly. The garlic/parsley/olive oil dressing with wedge of lemon infused such great flavor to the tender squid meat. For our main, we ordered the seafood paella called Arroz del Senyoret which has pieces of cuttlefish, sweet shrimp, and monkfish. We wanted to try the squid ink rice (Arroz Negro) but it would have been too much squid for one meal. We were also served some delicious, warm, crusty bread and she was kind enough to bring a bottle of olive oil (that she proudly mentioned was produced in Valencia) for dipping. To wet the whiskers, I got a Spanish red vermouth (with ice, orange slice and olives) and my wife got the house red. The one thing I really appreciate about Spain is that many restaurants, even their house wine is of very good quality. Next time we're in Valencia, I really hope this place is still open. We will definitely have to try their Paella Valenciana (chicken, rabbit, snails) and come back for more of that grilled squid. read more

First time in Spain and this place was recommended from our concierge. Didn't make a reservation but knew that if I got there around 9 pm on a Thursday that I wouldn't need a reservation. Read the other yelp reviews and I was very happy with my choice. The Restuarant clientele was a little older crowd and a little stuffy but who cares! I was greeted by the friendly waitress and sat down immediately. I ordered a glass of House wine (Red) which was a bargain (3 Euro's) and it was excellent. I ordered the grilled squid in parsley and garlic sauce AMAZING! 3 big pieces and I started getting full. I then asked the waitress if I got the black paella if it was too much seafood and she said it should be fine. The paella came out as soon as I finished the grilled Squid great timing by staff and was it a home run! Loved it and ate every bite. The flavors of the squid paella was so fresh and chewy. Definitely not Uncle Ben's Rice-aroni ! Great place and cool ambience. The four female waitresses were very nice. When I originally walked in one of them was cutting fresh prosciutto so that was cool to watch. read more

Hotel concierge recommended and made reservations for us. We were hesitant coming, it might be too touristy. The restaurant was quite busy for the evening, most of the people had reservations. Menus were offered in several languages. Clearly lots of tourists dine here. We tried the paella, noodle paella, garlic shrimp and steak. The garlic shrimp was so tasty that we used extra bread to soak up the sauce. Paella was one of the best during the trip, and the only place serving noodle paella. It was a big hit! When I travel, I try and research local culture, cuisines and must-see sites as much as possible . I do have a habit (thanks to my lovely wife) in asking hotel concierges to make recommendations of local restaurants that would best represent their local cuisine. We were recommended Raco del Turia which in the literal translation means "corner of Turia" The Turia River after the 1957 flood was diverted and the former river turned into a pedestrian park/gardens. So the restaurant lends its name from the Turia River. This restaurant represents traditional Valencian cooking. Very simple, no non sense home style cooking. Now, Valencia is touted as the city that gave the world paella, we of course had to try it! The paella we ordered was the traditional; with mussels and chicken. Our paella was delicious, not over salted and did not taste like Uncle Ben's rice! We also had grilled baby squid and grilled sardines. My wife was ecstatic with what we ordered as everything we ordered was seasoned superbly. This place has been around since 1991 and should not be shunned by anyone seeking a true Valencian experience! read more

A few days ago, on the strong suggestion of our hotel concierge, had dinner in a restaurant that was named something that I interpreted as "The Racket of Tourists". Aside from the obvious kickbacks that the restaurant gave the hotel, there was no need for a reservation. We arrived to a 3/4 empty restaurant full of other tourists-looking folk, all clearly in search of the "authentic Valencian experience" that we'd been so passionately promised. Clearly all that people in Valencia do is eat overpriced rice amongst other English speakers. Uncle Ben himself would be proud. At least that's the impression that I took away from "The Racket of Tourists". Of course, this is data extrapolation... as not a single person from Spain was eating here. Perhaps they never have. An extremely expensive excursion into the wonderful world of Spanish sodium. read more

OVER PRICED AND UNDERWHELMED! I've been traveling through Spain trying regional Paella and I went here on the recommendation of tripadvisor. First, if you aren't older and dressed to the nines prepare to be ignored. Second, the rice was undercooked and hard, some of it still stuck to the pan. Went to a well known restaurant for authentic paella order the best with lobster tail. Arrived over cooked with majority of the rice hard as a rock. Waiter said it was " Valencia style". Only 2-3 oz of lobster for my ice and I. Very disappointed. 27 euro each! Nada mas. read more

I love this restaurant for a number of reasons. First, the decor inside is calming, elegant, and relaxed. The female waiters have been enormously welcoming and gracious. Its the food, however, that keeps me coming back. Though only in Valencia for a handful of days, it was Raco del Turia that always came to mind when I wanted to eat well. The prices are very fair for the quality of food. I dream of their Foie Gras with Apple and Port Wine (I am a chef myself, and make it very similarly---and their's is done with perfection as well as a very generous serving for the price). I also love their Grilled Vegetables with Remoulade---you could make a meal on them alone. The Shrimp in Garlic Sauce is quite yummy as well. This place was recommended by our concierge at our hotel. Seems like a lot of concierge recommend this place. Everyone eating in there were english speaking people, so the local feel wasn't there but the meal was nothing short of spectacular. We had the goat cheese and jamon salad as a starter. I will be craving this for many many months to come. We had the seafood paella for dinner. It was the best paella we had on our two week trip. When they brought it out, we thought we couldn't eat it all but we in fact eat every bit of it. The crunchy rice is so good. We shared the chocolate sponge cake for dessert. Delicious.
