It is our 60th wedding anniversary. We rode the metrorail and bus down the bus way from South Miami…read moreto Florida City to Rosita's for lunch. it is located at the end of the busway - last stop, right across from the Youth Hostel. We had been here once before, 30something years ago..At that time I was trying so hard to diet that I just sat and watched the rest of the family enjoying their meal. This time I selected the caldo de rez with three warm tortillas, onions, parsley, tastey rice, lime,(and I skipped the jallepeño peppers). there were bottles of elevating unmarked homemade sauces. The big chunks of beef were tender, carrots, cabbage, chunks of potato and piece of corn on the cob were were cooked just right so they retained their taste and individual textures. The broth was mild and not fatty. Our young waitress was helpful. The music was fun and relaxing, as were the decorations on the walls and ceiling. The atmosphere was casual. We sat at a table way at the back, so we could watch all the goings on from a little quieter spot.

Rosita's Mexican Restaurant proves you don't need a big fancy place to put out some seriously good…read morefood. It's a smaller, no-frills spot, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in authentic flavor. I stopped in for breakfast and ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo and potatoes. This thing was LOADED! A big, hearty burrito packed with chorizo, eggs, potatoes, rice, beans, and plenty of flavor. Everything worked together perfectly, and you're definitely not leaving hungry. The salsa was another highlight. It tasted fresh and authentic with just the right amount of spice--enough heat to wake everything up without overpowering the food. If you're looking for a small local Mexican spot serving big portions and authentic flavors without all the fuss, Rosita's is worth checking out. That chorizo breakfast burrito alone is enough to bring me back!
