I wish the order came with atleast some tortilla chips to not let the additional sauce go to waste. Service was great! They are old school so you'll have to call to order ahead. Everything was fantastic, but the Botana sampler was definitely the standout. I'm a huge fan of flautas, and these were fried to perfection. The quesadilla was another highlight. This is hands down the best Birria I've had in south Florida. The perfect amount of cheese and meat ratio and the consome was thick and rich! Drove down to homestead to shop for fresh tortillas in the Mexican market and stopped in La cruzada for a meal after. This restaurant is right next door to the market. The service was very nice and attentive. There was live music playing outside on the patio and they had plenty of fans. We ended up sitting inside so we missed out on the music but the overall experience was authentic and inviting. We opted for two plates that had an array of options and shared between the table. Came here after the Homestead Rodeo this past weekend (Jan 2025). There was a short wait for a table but it was pleasant weather outside and we enjoyed it. Inside the ambiance is cozy and typical for a Mexican restaurant. They have an outdoor covered patio area with live music (at least while we were there). We sat inside but could still see and hear the action as the two areas are divided by a glass partition. The food was good, authentic. Hoenstky, the first time I came here, a few years back, the food was better. However, it's still very tasty and worth a trip when you are in the area. I went with the Tres Amigos platter / which comes with Tacos, two tostadas and two enchiladas. It is alot of food. Easily shareable if that's your thing. The service was also prompt and friendly. While I was down in Homestead, exploring the local National Parks, I was looking for the best local cuisines to dine at. In my research, I found La Cruzada, which seems like more of an authentic Mexican restaurant, and less of an American Mexican restaurant. Both have their merits, of course, but I just had to check this place out. The inside décor felt similar to the Mexican restaurant vibe I got from the menu and pictures online. I liked it a lot. A variety of Mexican music blasted from the speakers in all of their many dining rooms, all looking very different from one another. It was tough to keep up with my host, with all my looking around at staff. But anyway. I got seated and ordered some food. I looked at the menu, lots of good options, and I settled on the Molcajete (Chicken, Beef Fajita & Shrimp mixed in red sauce, fried cheese, chives & cactus leaves. Served with rice & beans). I also asked for a side of tortillas. Look at the pic. This thing was intimidating and very attractive. Everything was soaking in that deeply flavored red sauce, so you have to go digging. But one you find your prize, man, the chicken is just so juicy and charred up, the beef was tender and spiced well, the shrimp were huge and plump and not overcooked. The unique elements here were the fried cheese and the cactus, and I loved them both. Put some with some rice and beans in a little taco, mwah, chef's kiss. I also got to try the Tres Amigos (2 tostadas, 2 tacos, 2 enchiladas with rice & beans). I love flights, and this was a nice little flight of some simple basics. The tostadas were excellent and crispy, and the enchilada sauce was perfect, just a good dish. No complaints. Overall, the difference between a place like this and an American Mexican restaurant is very obvious in aesthetics and menu items. If you haven't been to a place like this, I recommend it. This place was one of the recommended area restaurants by our Hotel. We were handed large trifold menus in plastic. All drink prices were listed on the menu with Margaritas clearly listed at $6. There were no prices listed for the food, but we figured what the heck, for $6 margaritas I'll pay $20 for a dinner. My wife and I ordered the small chips and guacamole and two entrées. We had 3 margaritas and one Modelo. The food was adequate but when we got the bill, it was over $95. The receipt claimed the margaritas were $8 each instead of $6. They also added a 3% surcharge for the credit card, which is listed nowhere that I saw on the menu or in the restaurant. When we questioned the waitress, l she first asked if we used the QR code to check the menu. We told her, of course not, you handed us a large menu to look at. She then went and spoke to a few people and proceeded to come back with a menu with all the drink prices blacked out and telling us she checked all the menus and couldn't find any menus with margarita prices at $6. The restaurant had many local looking patrons inside, and we probably stood out as tourists who that could try and take advantage of. Beware! They will hand you a menu with the wrong prices on it...
