This restaurant easily has the best Mexican food out of all the Mexican restaurants, anywhere around here. They have this beer simmered pork and chicken burritos that are incredible. The meat is always juicy and the red ranchero sauce is delicious! I think it might be family owned because the staff are always so kind and personable. This place is superb and has lasted for decades regardless of recessions or competition opening up nearby. This is your hole in the wall Mexican spot that has great salsa and authentic food. This is our first time dining at this restaurant, after seeing it located on Bragg Blvd. for a number of years. We have been eating at El Calzador on Skibo for years and have been wanting to try this place. Upon entering we were greeted by who we assume was the owner and he seated us. I think his family was also working there, a couple kids running around. We ordered our food and was served very fast. Now, the issues were with the food. I had the combination plate with a taco, burrito and tamale and wife had the fried tilapia. Rice was dry, tamale was dry, tilapia was over cooked, Taco Bell taco was better than this one. I can say that the chips and salsa was good. It seemed like the food had been microwaved before serving, very very dry. I don't think we will be returning to this place, not happy with the food. read more

Wouldn't recommend calling during lunch time. Called in and gentleman probably forgot to put my order in as I waited 30 minutes when I showed up and was told 10-15 minutes over the phone. Stingy with the sauces too. Was given one sauce for two combos I ordered. Once I got home two of the 5 flautas from the combo had nothing inside of them. I have been to El Tucan multiple times, and the food never disappoints. However, the massive construction zone in the area makes it very difficult to get to the restaurant now. On this occasion, I had the Shrimp Quesadilla, which consists of shrimp, bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, and cheese in a grilled quesadilla, and is served with rice, beans, guacamole, and sour cream for $7.99. The shrimp are small, but there is an adequate amount of them. Service was a lot slower than usual, but the food tasted fantastic and portion size was perfect, as usual. They also supply a TON of complimentary chips and mildly spicy salsa prior to the meal. read more

Fresh, Fresh, food and great great service. I've been coming here for years and just never sat down to write a review. I have traveled all over the world and within the states and I have always compared other Mexican restaurants to this one. There are two dishes that I would highly recommend; Quesadilla California (shrimp, eggs, beans, and cheese) and the synchronizada ( Mexican three layer sandwich). They have fresh guacamole, tasty cheese dip, and delicious horchata ( best I've ever tasted). The owner Arturo has been a constant sight ever since I started coming here and he is always welcoming to all patrons. The menu is full of great food and I have never had a bad dish. I would highly recommend making a stop to this non-traditional and non chain restaurant. Get a way from the speedy Gonzales and get something different. read more

Have done take out from here 3 times in the short time we have lived in Fayetteville, and the food is amazing. Everything my wife and I have tried has been really delicious. Whatever you get definitely try the Pico, it is so fresh and flavorful, we always get extra and put it on everything. The shrimp have NEVER been this small. I've always loved coming here but when I let them know about the shrimp they acted as though they did not care and I was acting crazy. Then when I asked for the manager they said there is no manager and did nothing to accommodate me or my family. After all the great reviews here on Yelp!, I expected better. For me, the acid test of a Mexican restaurant is the chili relleno. El Tucan fell flat. Although made with a poblano chili, they must've scraped out all the seeds and taken out all the ribs, because there was absolutely no heat. In addition, it appears that their deep fryer was too hot. The coating came out too dark (overcooked) and the cheese inside was not fully melted, supporting my assessment. The chips were fine, the beans were tasty, and the taco was a standard taco. Had been here once before years ago. Cant remember what I had then. Was recommended this place by a friend and popped in while on vacation. Had the parrillada (steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, rice and beans) Was impressed the chorizo had a different flavor from what I'm used to trying and I loved it! I had to ask the server to wear a mask on my last visit. It's a family owned restaurant and the "family/employees?", often walk around without any mask. They do not enforce customers that walk in to wear masks either. This is not acceptable in an indoor restaurant during a pandemic. The food is great but the hours on the website are out of date. I've showed up at 8:30pm and 5pm on separate Sundays because it says on Google they are open until 9pm, only to find that they were closed. I was dying for some tacos and my first choice would have been Pablos, or El Aguila but I was right here and I have been meaning to try this place forever so why not... The menu is pretty much the same as all the local "Mexican" food places in town you know where they load everything up with shredded orange cheese and cheese sauce neither of which is actually Mexican food in my book. The service was good and the people were very nice in trhere. They had 100 on their Sanitation rating woo hoo!! I opted for the TACOS MEXICANOS (3 tacos on soft grilled corn tortillas with meat of your choice, chopped cilantro and onion with a lime wedge on the side. My plate also came with a reasonable portion of refried beans and rice. They added a small brown paper bag of corn chips and a rather large cup of salsa to the bag for a total of $8.80. ......sigh.... I chose "al Pastor" meat for the tacos maybe that was the problem. Can someone please make some Al Pastor that is Authentic, spiced correctly, not salty and not full of fat and questionable meat particles???? or in this case too much pineapple!!! For the record AL pastor is: Thin steaks alternating pork and beef marinated in chile and spices and vinegar and pineapple juice then they layer the steaks on one of those greek Gyros spits and throw a hunk of pineapple on one end, and a whole onion on the other side, They then grill the steaks and slice the meat onto the tortillas and add Guacamole (mashed avocado with a little sour creme for texture, salt and lime juice) cilantro and cebollas and chile. We just moved to the area last week from Arizona and we have been dying for Mexican. We found this restaurant by chance and we are glad we did. The location itself doesn't look like much on the outside, but the food makes up for it. The service was a bit slow, but hats to be expected in a small Mexican restaurant with one waitress. My husband had the Arroz con Pollo and it was seasoned just right. I had the Piña Rellena and it was amazing. The pineapple was sweet and the chicken and shrimp were both full of flavor.
