Out of Country Review - Spain
Had dinner at El Txoko De Martin on Friday night. Lots of service issues, many of them easily resolved by simply moving dining inside, while the food was not exciting enough to justify the price-tag.
Quality: The wine list was lengthy and filled with some excellent options. I was disappointed by the food. The Burrata was okay, but the tomato tartare was very bitter. The Beef Tartare is a hit, if you visit it is a must order. The Scallop Ceviche was a bit boring and very heavy on citrus. The Selection Of Croquetas was good, the ricotta was the best of the options. For mains we ordered the Steak Of The Day, which was okay, but not worth the price, while the Chestnut-Fed Iberian Pork, proved a very dry and unexciting dish.
Quantity: Large portions even for dishes classified as small plates.
Value: High prices.
Ambiance: El Txoko De Martin is a high-end restaurant in Palma. It occupies a strange space near many pubs, so the decision to seat everyone outside was a strange one. It ended up being loud and rowdy, instead of more intimate as it should be. A brief look inside showed a stylish bar and lounge filled with wood, which would have been a significantly better environment to enjoy our dinner.
Crowd: Outside was in full use, inside left empty.
Service: Very distracted. read more
