Ian who works there has a wealth of knowledge of carrousels and gave out a lot of great information and history about one of the world's oldest amusement rides. Certainly worth a visit in the area and going for a ride on the classic Carrousel that's on location.

Of course, the Roycroft Inn, but there is the copper shop, visitor's center the antique store, the museum, the "chapel" building. There is a parking lot, but also street parking available. There is plenty of signage that will help you make your way through the area. You can wander through on your own but you can also book guided tours where you learn a lot of great information about the Arts and Crafts movement and the founder and the history of this charming space. Definitely worth it if you love art, architecture or history. The people that work here are fantastic. Knowledgable, friendly and love sharing stories. If you are in the Buffalo area, make sure to take the drive to check out this great and historic space!

You'll find actual china, era posters (Currier and Ives), and even books hand signed by Millard Fillmore. But that's not the best part. The best part is far and away the guides. They truly care and are passionate about "their President" and in spreading true information about this often forgotten U.S. President. I gained new knowledge and even a broader perspective of who he was, how he was raised, how he climbed the political ladder as well as the good, the bad, and the ugly. The guides are fun and engaging and went above and beyond to answer all questions as well as give us extra suggestions for nearby sites (both in East Aurora and Buffalo) to visit to enhance our understanding of Millard Fillmore. But, okay, he has some pretty decent accomplishments in American history that cements him as an influential figure in the shaping of Buffalo and our nation. The Millard Fillmore house is an absolute must-visit when it comes to local history, and certainly to state-wide history too! This is certainly a hidden gem of whatever reason, overshadowed I feel by the Roycroft campus just around the corner...but I am so glad to have had the chance to tour this historic home. I don't want to spoil any of the history of the house or its inhabitants here, so I won't. Seriously, take some time to visit this house! The museum is tour-guided, running on Wednesdays and weekends every half hour from 1-3pm. $10 for visitors, with discounts for seniors/children/etc. They take cash or card. No pictures allowed inside of the house, but photos of the exterior & gardens are cool! It was really cool to see all of the artifacts here, many pieces being genuinely owned by Fillmore throughout his lifetime. (They even have a lock of his hair on display!) If you're a bit of a history nut like me, a lot of what you'll find in this museum will be pretty common knowledge. I did find it really cool to learn the history of the house through its ownership, a bit more about Fillmore's personal life in Buffalo that I hadn't known before, and his accomplishments throughout and after his presidency. The docents were very knowledgeable, friendly, and had answers for every question I asked! I would honestly love to return here with friends, or would enjoy bringing someone from out of town to this amazing gem. It does my heart good to know how much love and appreciation this place has gotten from East Aurora - so thank you, for giving me such a wonderful experience in the process!

There are some that are dead-on for the celebrity to the point of it being creepy. Others look like a 5-year-old did them and look nothing like the celebrity. Nonetheless its a fun time and worth the visit, just not at full price.

He's recognized as one of the most distinguished American painters. Charles Rand Penney was a Buffalo native who donated his collection of Western New York Art, including 183 works by Charles E. Burchfield. The Burchfield Penney Art Center is dedicated to works by Burchfield and by regional artists. You'll see those active in the previous and the contemporary century. The Burchfield Penney functions as a gallery and a museum, serving as an institution affiliated with the Buffalo State University. For this reason, many events are related to education and personal development. It is worth checking what is happening and which events align with your individual needs and interests. Either way, it is definitely a place worth visiting. It's New York's first green museum certified by the U.S. Green Building Council's (LEED) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. It's a two-story open and bright space, pretty great to be honest :). On the second Friday of every month, admission is free. "Be ready for special events, music, workshops, happy hours and more!" It's also free for Burchfield Penney members, Buffalo State University Students, Faculty & Staff, United States and Canada Active Military and their families, United States Military Veterans, ASI Arts Access Pass holders, and children and teens under 18 years old.

The Buffalo botanical gardens has an expansive collection of plants and the building itself is just…read moreimpressive, making it a good way to warm up on a cold day. I recently came back during the annual poinsettia display and enjoyed walking around to see the variety of poinsettias and other plants. They also had an art exhibit featuring portraits of heroes of horticulture. Overall, I highly recommend to both locals or anyone visiting the region.

This place reminded me of the Exploratorium in San Francisco, , except instead of interactive exhibits highlighting scientific principles, these interactive exhibits were all about play! Play for both the kids, and the grown-ups. They had a ropes course for the younger kids, and another one for older kids and the grown-ups. For the kids, they had a scale model of a local grocery chain, where the kids could either "work", or "shop", right down to the working checkout lanes. They had a Sesame Street exhibit...., A butterfly habitat, and and All kinds of different indoor and outdoor play areas. I can still hula hoop! (for a whole five seconds...). They also had all of the exhibits on toys, games, and video games. This is the home of the national toy, Hall of Fame, and the national video game Hall of Fame. it was so cool seeing toys from my childhood, and a wide range of video games and pinball machine machines that are playable. The price to get in is very reasonable, and they also offer a military/veterans discount, and memberships to the museum, which offer free museum admission. There is a parking garage attached to the museum, with a small charge for parking, and there is a also a small charge for the ropes course, the butterfly habitat, or to play the video games/pinball machines. (4 tokens for a dollar, and every machine only takes one token...) This is an absolutely fun museum for kids of all ages. Thanks!!!

Reliving childhood memories and making new ones with the whole family…read more The Strong National Museum of Play is the ultimate place for interactive play with over 282,000 sq ft of fun exhibits. Smaller kids were able to immerse in the toy Grocery Store, Reading Adventureland pirate mail, and Sesame Street exhibits on the 1st floor. There were neat areas including the Pinball Playfield and outdoor Field of Play with a D&D dragon statue and Monopoly for photo-ops on a nice day. The Hulk strength and Spider-Man city climb exhibits in the Comic Book Hero area were also fun. On the 2nd floor, the Digital Worlds and Video Game Hall of Fame featured many classic and independent video games that kept us entertained on various consoles. We also had plenty of fun in the Level Up area, especially with the interactive stealth zone and wall toss games. These were all included in the admission price but my personal favorite were the arcades at $1 per 5 tokens and featured Mario Cart and Halo plus many more games from the past four decades. We literally visited three days in a row here to experience the many parts of the museum for multiple days of play. With added admission, we also worked up a sweat on the Skyline Climb rope course and zipline above the atrium. It was well-designed with a safety rail & traffic light system that made it suitable for young kids. The site has a rainbow parking garage with 6 parking entries included in each annual family membership. Skip it or hit it? We had such a fun time that we'll definitely revisit in the future. Good thing it's only 3 hours drive from Toronto.
