Have had Lunch here a few times and they have nice dishes to share. Also, they have some decent beers on tap. Have tried their sliders too but will stick to the lunch deals. Aaa and try their sweet potato fries Nice interior but maybe a bit too many tables? That's ok though as I am not that fat ;)

Didn't know the place beforehand, but it was a welcome surprise - great taste, good sized portions for the price and friendly waiters.

The seasoning was on point and the caramelized onion marmalade that it is served with is the perfect combination of flavors.

Most of the time when you're in a city or a country that's much different than your own, you want to experience their food, but I was so intrigued but this concept that I had to check it out for myself. Sure enough, when I walked in I felt like I ended '50s America. This was a legit old-school diner, but with more wooden fixtures than the checkered patterns and plastic type seating that you may be thinking of. It still had the look and feel of a diner, but with a slightly more polished looked. The wait brought over the menu and a small glass of water. If nothing else, come here just to read the menu. It's hysterical. Small jokes within each menu item. I decided to get breakfast here so I got eggs, bacon, toast and French fries because the waiter didn't understand that I wanted home fries, but whatever. It's a potato so I ate it. The eggs were cooked exactly how I asked for them and the bacon was nice and crispy. Looking around, the milkshakes were passing me by constantly and these huge sandwiches. It really made me see how much we, as Americans consume. Their portions were out of this world big if you got a sandwich or something like that. My meal was just the right size, but as most things in Norway, it was expensive so I passed on the milkshake because I'm sure it was out of my budget. A fun experience none the less. I would take friends here the next time Im in town and if I was a local I'd probably be a regular here if I lived nearby.

I went because I wanted to see Norway's interpretation of a real American diner. It really wasn't bad, but I had to do a triple take when I got the bill. That said, the fries were hot and crispy, the Mac and cheese was delightfully creamy, and the burger was okay. I'd want to try their great-looking breakfast menu, but don't want to go broke for American food on my vacation.

[[UPDATED REVIEW: September 2022]]…read more 'Ello chaps! Return trip a few years later to a hip "Southern American" restaurant in the artsy district of Oslo, a short bus ride (or even walk) from downtown. As someone from the southern United States, where folks are judged on their fried chicken and BBQ, Lucky Bird hits it out of the park. Simply some of the BEST fried chicken I've ever had -- ANY WHERE. The chicken was perfectly moist, and the breading was crispy without feeling heavy or overly oily. The creamed corn and mashed potatoes were top notch. The only complaint about Lucky Bird is that there weren't more locations around Oslo. This is certainly a gem hiding in plain site. On the return trip the fried chicken was still living up to the standard. Delicious. Overall the sides can really put a dent in your wallet, so you want to be careful with your order. Oh, and the tea - don't order it if you're expecting a traditional southern American sweet tea. Their tea is not that. It's a mix of tea and lemonade it tasted like. This was also one of the few restaurants in Norway we found to have full service (meaning a server took your order) Overall I give Lucky Bird five stars out of five.

I had an order of 8 wings. The wings were covered in a sweet BBQ sauce. I liked it very much. My friend ordered popcorn chicken and mashed potatoes. She didn't like her meal. But, I thought it was okay. Service was polite, but very slow. Overall, I thought it was fine. 3 stars.

Not what I hoped for…read more I was visiting Oslo from the USA and thought it might be cool to check out an "American" BBQ joint on the 4th of July. WDS makes a big deal on their website about making reservations and what it serves large groups as the try to have enough cooked meat on hand. I was traveling solo so I emailed the week before to make sure I could get a table- no problem they said. When I got there the had to check if seating was available though the restaurant was half full at best. Service - The guys handling the seating sounded American but were not particularly friendly or welcoming. I'm pretty sure by my voice and appearance they knew I was from the States, but made no comment. My actual waiter was fine - friendly and attentive. Food- Shame on me for ordering a burger at a BBQ place- should have had the brisket. Still this smoked burger was undercooked for my liking and not particularly flavorful. Maybe their other barbecued meats are phenomenal-don't know. They promote themselves as a southern bbq experience-one wall is covered with a mural of the USA south, highlighting the regional bbq's. I have had better food and hospitality at dozens of bbq joints throughout the South. I accept part of the blame as maybe my expectations were too high. Just feels like an opportunity missed. All the local diners seemed to be enjoying themselves so they must be doing something right?

However, the great food cannot make up for the lousy service I seem to get every time I am here. The worst was a few months ago for my boyfriend's 30th birthday. It was supposed to be a surprise dinner with all of his friends. I made reservations 2 weeks in advanced online. I then called the day before the dinner to confirm the reservations. Apparently I talked to the cook and he said that my reservation looked fine. He repeated how many people the reservation was for, my name, and at what time so all seemed fine. My boyfriend's friends showed up to the restaurant before me and called me to say they did not have the reservations. When I arrived a few minutes later they tried to tell me that the cook had told me to call back in a few minutes when I talked to him on the phone the day before. I explained to them how if that were the case I obviously would have called back because of the importance of the reservations. They tried to reserve us a table for the next evening, but obviously that wouldnt work. The great thing about being an American in Norway is Norwegians are quickly intimidated when we raise our voice. As soon as I raised my voice and let them know how pissed I was, we were given a table. It was not quite big enough for all of us, but we were at least seated. The service after that was still awful. I would have thought it was because I raised my voice at them, but having been here several times before that, I wouldnt have expected the service to be anything but lousy and if it werent for my boyfriend being Norwegian and used to bad service, I would never go back, but unfortunately, he loves the place.

The chicken wings are tiny. The pork rib was super tender. I wonder if they maybe make it in a sous vide, because the fat wasn't really melted into the meat. Other than that, wonderful! They did mess up our order, and gave on at our table a coleslaw instead of the beetroot salad. When we told him, the waiter took the beet root from the shared platter, and gave the rest of us the coleslaw. But we already had one, so now the shared table had two coleslaws and no beetroot. Not good. We told them, and eventually got a beet root salad at the end of the meal. For the sides, I'd recommend the mac n cheese, sweet potato, and the beetroot salad. The beans are ok, but not that special. The cornbread is yummi! They have an impressive beer selection! Unfortunately they were out of a couple of my favorites - Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (on draft!) and Dales Pale Ale. Luckily they had really good similar beers - Rudie Session and Modus Hoperandi. The service was good. I wished they knew more about beer given the large selection, but at least they tried. The place has a nice atmosphere, and we ended up staying for hours. You should go here, and you should eat the chicken or pulled pork, and share a mac n cheese, beetroot salad, and corn bread.
