Madison fixed it. Clean lines, actual shape, the kind of cut where you leave the chair looking like a person who has his affairs in order, even if that's a lie you're telling everyone including yourself. While I waited, they offered a free beer or a soft drink, and I stood there weighing the beer option with more seriousness than the decision probably deserved, before remembering it was noon on a Wednesday and I still had places to be that required functioning as an adult. I took the soft drink on my way out, quietly, like a man protecting a reputation nobody was actually monitoring. The shop leans into the whole "Keep it handsome" motto without it feeling like a bit, old-school chairs, a barber who clearly knows what she's doing, a George Bernard Shaw quote on the wall about gentlemen putting more into the world than they take out, which is a high bar for a place that also sells beard oil and, apparently, day-drinking opportunities. I will, predictably, wait too long before my next visit and show up looking like I lost a fight with a hedge trimmer. Madison will fix that too. This is the system now, and I've made peace with it.

This place is great. Friendly and all really good haircutters. I've used several of them. Wendy…read moreSmith is the best! In addition to electrocuting your head - if that's what you want, she can also do a cool rock 'n' roll hairstyle with scissors. Rare in these thar parts.

This is not to be seen as some personal attack on the barber shop as I overall do not wish to be…read morehateful, but frankly my experience was pretty disappointing. To start, I booked an appointment with the only female staff(that I'm aware of) there. My reason for this was because I googled characteristics of the type of haircut I was looking for and frankly her name was what popped up as being "very skilled and experienced" with this type of haircut. the morning of the appointment came and I received a text message from a "Madison" stating that she was sick and kindly asked if I would either reschedule or book with someone else. I was unable to reschedule so I went ahead and sought booking another barber in the shop to cut my hair. Unfortunately their haircut price was significantly higher than hers, however it was the option available at the time so I went with it. When I arrived at my appointment this person who needed to reschedule/have me book with someone else was in fact present at the barber shop cutting hair. Obviously I am not suggesting that this was done to be personal because that would be pretty weird and bizarre to think. However it still presented as quite an unprofessional and frankly rude thing to do. in regards to the haircut itself the barber that did the work was very nice and welcoming. i was not satisfied with the haircut that was given and while yes I can admit that in a situation like that it could always be due to how I requested it, possibly poorly described what I was looking for etc etc. That's fine and I understand that but overall I really intended to get my haircut with the person that according to google was "highly skilled" in this particular cut. I have read other reviews on here that would suggest some innapropriate behavior towards the female staff of the establishment has occurred in the past and I don't know what's true and what's not true all I do know for certain is that as a first time customer with no other intentions other than getting a solid haircut, I left feeling quite disappointed in the whole situation. I've rambled enough, but I say everything to simply say... The vibe and so called atmosphere of a place like that ends up coming across as cringe and just not very genuine when the experience that is given doesn't really match the tone that is being attempted.

I came to the appointment at 2:45 because I wanted Madison to have enough time to cut my hair. Marvin suggested I leave and come back later. Madison was preoccupied with other coworkers. When I returned I conversed with Marvin. I asked for his portfolio and he had one on instagram. I wanted to schedule my next appointment with him. At 3:15pm I was greeted and was given a nice hair cut. Madison mentioned shoes that another coworker had that were great. I decided that since I liked her service and I appreciated the atmosphere. That I would do the right thing and help someone who was in pain. I bought her the shoes that were mentioned. Few days later I'm told that the gift needed to be returned, I requested that it be given to someone in need. GREAT PEOPLE. BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES. UNAMERICAN
