I asked for a skin fade. The barber doesn't know how to fade hair. It looks like two separate parts on my hair. The barber also couldn't make a straight line when I asked for a hard part. It was crooked and two different lines. Will not be going back. read more

Very pleased with my haircut and also with how the shop has adapted to new regulations. My barber wore a mask the entire time and only one (two maximum) customers are allowed in the shop at a time. The chairs are sprayed down before sitting if you request it and there is hand sanitizer available as well. When the barber finishes the cut you will have your face wiped with a light alcohol solution. The chairs are also separated by plastic partitions (see pic). Got a cut there yesterday. They gave me a "just fuck my shit up" special. I've had haircuts here before and they were fine. But damn, it looks like the guy took a scoop of my hair out. Also, the guy used an electric shaver on the back of my neck (like the kind you shave your face with). Usually this area is done with clippers or a straight razor. It irritated my neck and kind of pulled some hairs out as he was going. Probably won't be back. I uploaded photos of the cut. read more

Well, I got many hair cut in there I feel like this is a bit of chance from now on if you get your hair cut one those guys in there however there is a very sweet lady she knows what she is doing and never dissapo me once. Every time I go there she is kinda bussy with other customers sometimes I am asking to get hair cut from her but they are insistenly giving my hair cut the chinise old gentleman on the first chair and mostly he is messing with my hair. Both of them were thorough, precise and accommodating to our requests. Gulya especially was very patient in getting me the style I wanted (first time getting an undercut with a wolf tail), showing me the difference between a 1, a 1 1/2 and 2 lengths on the clipper. Stopped in on a Saturday before noon to get a cut. Didn't wait a single minute and was warmly greeted by Ray. I was in and out pretty quickly and not in a rushed way. My hair is pretty simple because I just get a buzz cut. Ray did a great job and even rinsed my head when we were done so that I wasn't walking around shedding hair shavings. This is my favorite and all time go to barbershop. The atmosphere here is super friendly and super chill; you always feel welcome and taken care of here. The barbers here are super attentive and talks to you as they cut your hair, making sure it is in alignment with what you want. Being a queer woman of color, this place definitely makes me feel welcome and doesn't give off that machismo type of vibe. My go to guys here are Ray and Serg! They are definitely masters at what they do and they do it with pride. The best days to go are weekdays, less busy but if you do come during the weekend, that's ok too. So, I came in looking as if I just stepped out of some weird time machine on an episode of Dr. Who. I'm very particular but Ray definitely put me at ease especially seeing how unsure I was regarding their experience with afro textured hair. As I sit here typing this looking at what Ray did for me, I have to say I am truly happy and glad that I made this trek in the blistering cold, sidewalk filled with ice and snow to Elegant to get my hair cut. There's a ton of barber shops in the neighborhood but it's still hard to find a good barber. I first got my hair cut by Casey at the Elegant 4th Street location. She's a great barber and always provides a great attention to detail even when the shop is busy and it would be easy to rush. I'm so impressed with the quality of service that I followed her to the 7th Avenue location, even though I live just around the corner from 4th Street. The 7th Avenue location has the same look and feel of the 4th Street location but it's much bigger. It's much more comfortable and you don't feel cramped while waiting for your hair cut. I will continue to visit this location so long as Casey is there. read more
