Not the best experience I was hoping for before my graduation. To give you a context I have been growing my hair for more than a year, and thought about getting a nice haircut for my best pictures at graduation. The only mistake I made, was to choose this barber shop. I was late to my appointment by 20 min, but what could I have done with the new York traffic on a Saturday. I tried calling the salon about my delay but it went to their automated system. I received a call 15 min later to check if I was going to keep up with my appointment or not. I arrived within 5 min of them calling me. Well, it went haywire from there. I didn't get a good welcome, was directly asked to sit on the chair. The barber then asked me what I wanted, to which I laid down my expectations of this haircut in detail. The guy listened without uttering a word and took to his scissors. He was quite aggressive while cutting my hair and I could feel that something isn't right. The pull on my hair with his scissors and comb was something that I have never felt with any barber before. Still he had started cutting my hair and my graduation was at stake so I thought to be quiet and let him do his work. He took 15 min, not a single word during the whole time, and finally he asks me If I want a beard trim too. I was like, what? He did not even ask me I liked the haircut, or if I want to style it in a more subtle way, nothing! I had to then jump in and ask him to cut my hair to a little bit more detail. This was an outrageous attitude towards a customer who is willing to pay so much. I'm not sure if he was mad at me for arriving late or what, but he didn't even have any customers when I arrived. Anyways, I was in no mood to get stressed out before my graduation, so I accepted what he did to my hair. The charges was $75, but when I swiped my card I got a receipt of $84 something. That was weird, was she trying to trick me? And then came the tipping part, I cannot believe I tipped the guy 20% for the horrible service I received. I thought about it all the way my ride back home, but I just felt obligated to tip 20%. Maybe he was having a bad day, I don't know! But overall, horrible experience, would never go there again and advice my friends and family too. If you do decide to go I hope they have changed for the better and you get what you want :) good luck Edit: my bad, I got the haircut on Friday instead of Saturday as pointed out by the owner. When you leave, you'll truly feel like a Gentleman! The barber (and owner), Mike, is pleasant, laidback, and a bit soft-spoken. He does not pressure you into have an ongoing conversation like other barbers do, but will gladly chat with you regarding any subject should you bring it up. He offers a wide verity of services worthy of the old school Gentlemen's barber treatment, and uses fine, traditional products. The price for services are comparable to the neighborhood (trendy, "hipster" Williamsburg). You're not just paying for the actual haircut, shave or trim, but also for the overall experience of a place where you'll be treated as a Gentleman. Drinks are complimentary while enjoying the services (water, sodas or canned beer). The shop itself is quaint looking with an appealing décor. Got a hair cut here a whole ago but I forsure won't ever go back cause what I asked for wasn't given...especially for the price I'm paying. So I had pretty long and thick hair and I wanted a decent amount cut. The barber was quiet and didn't really communicate with me and by the end of my cut the back of my hair was sooo uneven. It literally looked like a child cut it. Since it was scissor cut and it took awhile I got charged like $70. I recently moved to ny and expected better from a gentleman's barber shop but I shoulda followed my gut and went with the much cheaper guy on my corner. Michael styles hair with ease, always considers first what the customer is looking for in their cut. The first time around I was about to go into an interview and wanted to look fresh. I had a pre-existing undercut that had grown out a little. He worked with precision and efficiency. Towards the end for the finishing touches, he used a straight razor to clean up the back of my neck and the hairline by the ear near the eyes. Grabbing a warm scented towel from an oven-like compartment, he held it draped over my face. Today I went in expecting the same professional service for a much shorter version of my current haircut and, of course, Michael delivered. New to New York and new to Brooklyn I'm picky when it comes to finding a barber after scrolling thru yelp and comparing pics this place seem to do the best with fades and my type of haircuts. Definitely lived up to my expectations great haircut. Only bad thing I got to say is I asked for my facial hair to be edged up and trimmed but the barber didn't edge it up at all just ran the clippers thru and charged me for it.. but that could have been easily been fixed if I acknowledged it. But to be honest I was impressed with the haircut and didn't even pay any attention to the facial hair until I got home. Will definitely be returning. Also $5 off to new yelp customers. Everyone knows the horror of moving and having to find a new barber. I went to 2 other places before I found Mike and I'm so glad I did! This is just a really good barbershop, had that nice old school feel, Mike greats you by name. They offer refreshments while you wait and best of all the cut is perfect, every time. I get a cut, beard trim/shave always a great experience especially the hot towel shave. It's not the cheapest barbershop but it's the best cut/service I've found in Brooklyn.
