I hired kendra in March for a December wedding. She charged me the full cost of service as a…read morenon-refundable which I now know is an unethical business practice. She books trials too close to the date, so when the trial went sideways, I had to add a to do to the busy planning, which wasn't ideal. Kendra seems to have a one size fits all approach to makeup, and she doesn't listen. She has a heavy handed approach to application (see her instagram). She is condescending and makes little snide comments that are little biting insults. When I mentioned that my eyebrows were way too dark and overdone, her response "eyebrows are a non-negotiable"... umm, wth is that about? Anyway, upon calling other artists, it seems that Kendra has quite the reputation with her peers. They've heard my story from other folks that have attempted to work with Kendra. Recently, Kendra has announced that she is "mostly" retiring from makeup application, but beware that she is still hiring out makeup artists under her KLS business. There are numerous other capable professionals in the area, and I would highly recommend looking to them if you have any interest in natural and flattering makeup. I gave kendra the opportunity to make this right with a partial refund, which she chose to ignore.

I knew I would be super stressed trying to do it myself, even though I had a small and fairly casual wedding, therefore, it was the one thing I was willing to splurge on. So I chose Hanna based on 1) the pictures of women here and on her site looked like actual, lovely women and not weird dolls and 2) 5-star reviews. My experience: My wedding was plagued with rather insensitive visiting in laws (example, showed up two hour late for our wedding breakfast, and then "joking" that I was rude for running out the door to get my nails done. Also texted us at 8:00 am the day AFTER our wedding - ummm, honeymoon anyone? to find out where we were going to meet them for breakfast...anyway). So unexpectedly, I was a bit stressed and a few minutes late coming back for my make up appointment by the time Hanna arrived (SHE was exactly on time). I had e-mailed some ideas to her previously and all of our communications were pleasant and prompt. But in person was even nicer. Instantly in her presence on that stupid stressful day I started to relax, she was calm, smiling and ready to work. Even though I made us start late (so sorry!!) she didn't give me any grief for it and got it all done on time. I needed that so much. And she's just a nice person. She kept chatting in a soft voice to my curls while she was pinning them up..."Okay curl, you tell me how you would like to sit, okay, like that? Oh you look nice now"...it was crazy soothing. In the end, I got so many compliments on my hair and makeup that I really should have taken some cards for her to hand out to the crowd. But most importantly, my groom, who always sees me sans makeup, really loved it. The look stayed put all night and the best part was that when I finally unpinned my hair, she had done something that made it look cute down too - so bonus, two more days of wedding hair awesomeness before I washed it out! The only thing I would have done differently would be to spring for the trial run, so that the day of my wedding I would have been excitedly anticipating the look, instead of being kind of worried it would be weird (it was so not weird!).

I hired 2 makeup/hair stylists and realized maybe I need one more. It is so close to the wedding that I knew it may not happen but Hanna worked her magic and got us a 3rd person. This review is about one-on-one makeup lesson with Chimi…read more I will have a professional photo shooting session soon, so I was looking for a makeup artist to help me, but then I thought maybe I should just learn how to do my own makeup so that I could do by myself for all occasions without looking for a pro. Instead of hiring a makeup artist for the photo shooting session, I called around to find an artist to give me a lesson. It's in June, a wedding peak month, so after calling so many makeup artists recommended online, Chimi was the only one who called me back. I booked with her for a 3-hour lesson. We met at a conference room in her apartment complex. When I arrived, she had prepared everything and set up everything we needed. Before the lesson, she texted me to bring my own makeup and skin care products to the lesson, so I also brought my own. She carefully reviewed what I had used, and she gave me her advice on those products based on my skin conditions. We started from the basic skin care routine as getting well-conditioned skin is the foundation of pretty makeup. Then she applied makeup on my half face to explain to me all the techniques. After she finished my half face, I followed her instructions to apply the other half face. I am not a crafty person, so I kind of had a hard time on detailed eye makeup. Chimi was able to use a technique that simplified the process but achieved the same result, which was amazing. She also went over my current makeup products to tell me which one didn't work for me and which one I should use more. The advice helped me get rid of unnecessary makeup things but keep the essential things. We actually used more than 3 hours as planned. I was a bit anxious, but Chimi told me not to worry as she's happy to extend longer time to make sure that I learned what I needed. We had lots of fun doing makeup together, and I did learn a good makeup lesson. I am now confident to apply my own makeup for the photo day!

I always thought I had oily skin, but after her professional analysis, I realized I have healthy normal skin. We started with a basic skincare routine, and then she showed me all the techniques and explained them to me. After she finished half of my face, I followed her instructions and applied the other half of my face. I've always wanted to try European and American-style makeup, and I'm glad Chimi was able to teach me so much about it. Chimi was very helpful in answering my makeup questions, both in terms of makeup application and concealer, and I learned a lot more than just what I learned online. It can be difficult to find someone who can actually accomplish that and Kurumi is able to do that better than any makeup artist I've worked with. She's got a great eye for detail not only with makeup but with her hair styling as well. The difference between the work she's done with my clients compared to other artists I've used in the past is night and day. She's now the only person I call when I need a hair and makeup artist for a shoot. What I also really value about Kurumi is the way she works with my clients.
