Inside the small strip by Boo Han Market, the name changed to Song Gio Salon and mostly in Korean words so I was confused at first. I have past shoulder length hair and wanted a hair cut with layers and I love the layers! I will definitely be back for a permanent straightener. The cost for haircut was $30 and she said permanent straightener would be $180. It was awkward walking in at first because there were 3 stylists but no one greeted or even turned when I came in, one eventually made eye contact with me and I had to speak up and say I had an appointment. There's a sign that they do not do walk ins right now, appointments only. They were pretty full and my appointment was a week out. read more

I typed in "magic straight perm" in the search portion on the Yelp! app and poof! J&L topped the list of salons near my area and I decided to give them a try. I've been getting this particular service for over 12 years so I am very knowledgable about the procedure. The stylists were friendly and hospitable. They definitely seemed experienced and generally moved with ease. 5 hours later, my unruly hair was tamed and straight as a board. Don't let the location or their facilities fool you. There's really no fluff about this place. It's a mom and pops kinda place that know what they're doing. I will definitely be back. read more

The owner, Song Gio usually cuts my hair. I think it's fair to say that depending on how busy they are you might have to wait a little bit, but I don't think you can find a better hair cut for $20. He's fast, efficient, and doesn't mess up my hair ever. I've tried out a few places for a sub-$20 men's haircut, but I've never seen anything near as good. read more

I got the same day appointment with Susan, who was mentioned in some reviews with positive comments. The salon changed name to Song Gio Hair Salon. So don't worry you are at the right place. Susan is very nice and cheerful. I showed her the hair style I'd like. I think it's an efficient way to communicate with your hair stylist. She cut my hair carefully and layer by layer, and ended up with what I exactly expected. The haircut is $30, which is a normal price. Now I have my bob style for summer time! read more

My wife love's this hair salon! Use to be J & I Salon until a change 5 years ago, I think!? But we see Su or Sue!? She is great! Find out that she is from Guam as well. So we talk about Guam quite frequently! Food, culture, and lifestyle! Sue does an awesome job of cutting my hair! Even lines and always clean! Sue does a great job my wife's hair as well. Terrible customer service! I made an appointment with Susan at 11:30am. Went in at 11:32am with no greeting and the store was full of customers. After over one hour wait, finally someone asked if I had an appointment. Yes I do have one but this store makes appointments look like disappointments. They assigned the wrong stylist, and I got told to remove my hoodie or I can't have my hair washed....since when is asking customers to remove their clothes normal???? In the end, I got a haircut without washing my hair and my husband couldn't tell that I have a haircut at all...So not coming back and recommend no one do the same. There are so many other options with better service and your time won't be wasted. read more

Love Susan, she did a great job on my hair! I had the magic straight plus color to hide my grays all on the same day and she was quick and efficient in making sure all process done are perfect. Best place for a haircut. The owner is quick and efficient - you bring a photo of what you want your hair to look like and he matches it. Mr. Song is so talented! One thing to note though, this salon is very Korean. Most of his customers are Korean and you probably will hear people speak Korean around you. read more

Really enjoyed my time at the J&I Hair Salon! Susan was very patient with me and did an amazing job of cutting and coloring my hair. She is very detailed and even asked if I tie my hair often to have some hair framing my face when in an updo. She also gave me great tips on how I can style my hair and what products to use after having it colored. Would go back for sure!! If you are in need of a stylist and someone who actually listens to how you want your hair styled I highly suggest popping in and asking for Susan. I had the male stylist cut my hair on a Thursday afternoon 3:30 pm. He was 30 minutes late. When he returned he helped the other two ladies with perm so kept me waiting for another 10 minutes. If my cut was great I wouldn't mind the wait but it wasn't. He rushed it (probably because he was behind schedule) and the layered hair looked butchered with two tiers. I came home and had to cut the lower tier myself so it doesn't look wierd. I will never go back to this guy but probably try Susan next time. read more

I LOVE Susan and wish I found her sooner! I've gotten haircuts, highlights, and permanent straightening from her and have been pleased every time. I bring in a picture and she executes. She still works there as an employee. So not helpful right now because her name is slipping my mind. But I'm sure you will be able to deduce. I got a Japanese Straight Perm and I absolutely LOVE it. Worth every penny. Considering they have the main owner/Stylist orchestrating and taking the lead on the work and her two assistants who are also licensed stylists-- help with the different stages of the long, arduous process. It took 5.5 plus hours but it went by so quickly. They have stacks of magazines; lively conversation and each step was like a spa treatment (plenty of scalp massages and hair conditioning). They have products for the deep conditioning that maintains the chemical treatment and this should last about 10 months. Looking good so far and it's been a month. The compliments I get every day makes me wish I had gotten this a long time ago! For cuts and manicures too--this salon is super professional and friendly. I like the ritual of, coming in and they take your jacket and replace it with a nice cotton "robe" or salon jacket. They take your purse or bag and put it in an armoir. Tea or water is offered as a refreshment. Oh, I thought I would add--please don't let the fact that it is in an international strip mall--or the fact that it is a Korean-operated salon with stylists who have accents mislead you into thinking that English is not spoken. Like I mentioned, we had lively and fun conversation and everyone is super positive, inclusive and welcoming. Susan was great! My sister and I are super picky about where we get our hair cut (my hair is a terror and my sister just has a whooole lot). For the past 4 years we've only gone to Camille's in Lakewood or a salon out in Korea, but we got kind of tired of traveling 50-5000 miles for a haircut. Susan was quick and careful, taking extra time on our bangs to make sure they were even. She also wasn't judge-y about our obviously damaged hair from boxed dyes and cheap shampoo. She's really good about recommending what would look best for your face & style too. Everytime i get my hair done here, people are always asking where I get my hair done. She's always so booked up but really tries to make time to squeeze you in.She also isnt just good with the classic course dark korean hair, a lot of her customers seem to be american & people of all ages, she's cut my husband & sons hair & they both looked good. She also has a really sweet & calm personality that makes the visit that much more pleasant. Its a classic korean salon with two other stylist so nothing high end but susan seriously knows her stuff. This is by far the best hair salon ever. They do magic straightening, color, digital perm. All the materials are imported from Japan so they don't damage your hair. My friends love how my hair look after the magic straightening. If you want beautiful hair without spending a lot of time, definitely go with magic straightening. My mom's been getting her hair cut and styled by the owner, Song Gio for several years and I've had my hair cut and styled by both Song Gio and his wife, and have been pleased. BUT I have to say that I am most impressed with Susan's work. I've been seeing her for over a year now, she has consistently been doing an A+ job. I like how she starts off by listening to what I really want and asks some questions to help her understand what her clients needs are. I will definitely be going back to her again. read more

I had horrible root tough-up and cut at this place. The women cut my hair didn't speak English at all. She couldn't communicate and had a client to help for interpreter. I asked for hair color but she did the tough-up only. The color of the root tough-up came out jet back but my natural color is brown. It took her 2 hours for doing that. She charged me $80 and I gave her $20 tip. I didn't know Susan can speak English at this Salon. Next time I will looking for her. read more

I get my hair permanently straightened/Japanese perm here and they are wonderful. She does a great job and her prices are great. I usually get a touch up straightening for about $180, including a cut, and I have medium-long hair. read more
