My son has a strong aversion to shots, and the doctor told us this was a painful shot given in the rump. He should not have discussed that in front of my son - it only built more fear and anxiety. When the nurse came in to give it, she was very short with us and yet again told how painful the shot was going to be. Of course, my son was not wanting to cooperate then for fear. The nurse got mad at my son and said she was not going to fight a "half-grown man" to give a shot. This infuriated me - my child is on the small side, not a half-grown man! Plus, things could have gone much differently if the doctor and nurse hadn't discussed everything in front of him, and the nurse approached things much differently. I would think most people know that you have to handle children differently from adults!
