Most of my sentiments are still the same. But I've got to hand it to them, the peanut choc waffles are enough to jump another star. Yep, all that in less than a month. I was a little lack lustre about returning to Elephant Walk so soon, but with Eggless closed and a quick ring around of dessert bars at 11:40 on a Friday night it seemed they were the only choice open. After a few awkward moves to actually make it into the booths (they can be low down and a bit squishy) two out of our party of four decided on the peanut choc waffles. Ohhhhhh my. Elephant Walk gets onto my dessert bar favourites with these alone. I still wish they'd vamp up the rest of their menu, but at least now I have a favourite to keep coming back for. read more

We arrived to Elephant Walk at 10pm on a slightly chilly Sunday night of a long weekend to learn that there were no indoor booths available. A table out the back (eg. outside) was offered which took a little bit of convincing until the waiter mentioned the word 'heater'. Seated around our table under the stars, enjoying the radiant warmth of the gas heater, we certainly didn't feel like we were sitting in our 2nd option! The vegan menu was well-suited to my being lactose-free & the multitude of waffles/banana split/etc was indeed appreciated by the other three. I always love the multitude of tea options & the staff always serve everything with a smile. A great place to chill & wind down and leaving the previous dining establishment to enjoy dessert here invariably makes the night last longer! read more

The first time I came in here I wondered what I had gotten myself into...very brothel-esque, little private booths, low lighting... then I realised it was a different kind of dessert we were ordering. I think it's a lovers bar, I was with two of my girlfriends and I couldn't help but think it might be nice if I could replace them with some kind of attractive man. oh well. I wasn't a big fan of the menu, everything was far to guilty for me, I believe I had a juice which was quite lovely...but I had to pass on the desserts, waffles make my insides curl. Service is quick, I believe the lady who was serving us also had ownership, she treated us as though we were a kind of nuisance, not sure why, it's not like she had to interrupt a serious necking session like what was happening in all the other booths. jeez. (So I went back recently, with an attractive man, which of course was always going to make the place seem better. I have a couple of things to add: the chocolate fondue - one mouthful and we burst into fits of laughter. I wondered if they put something in it other than the amazing, bitter, molten dark chocolate, because adult episodes of childish glee usually require a little something extra. Also, if anyone manages to figure out what the colour of the walls are, please let me know, the place is bathed in a low, red light which isnt all that easy on the eyes - best bring an attractive date with you to look at instead.) read more

A quirky little Adelaide institution, The Elephant Walk has been on my 'to visit' list for some time. I finally managed to get into this cute little joint and although the desserts that we ordered were indeed delicious, I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a huge amount of range. We're very spoiled for choice when it comes to dessert bars in Adelaide, which means that inevitably standards are high. I think that Elephant Walk may need to add a bit of variety to their menu in order to compete with some of the others around. In regards to service though, they could not be any better - our waitress was so incredibly friendly and attentive - but also good enough to know when we needed to just chill out and be left to our own. The decor is certainly unique - but very comforting too! Pop in if you're after some old fashioned goodness and friendly service - and just so that you can say you've been because I've been told that it's compulsory in order to be a 'real' Adelaideian! read more

A cute lovers stroll it may be but I find this cafe a bit over-rated. Elephant Walk has a similar problem to Spatz in that, the ambience and furnishings are charming and cosy but the menu is outdated. Up and coming dessert places and cafes popping up in Adelaide these days are modern and on trend, with creative dishes like panna cotta's and strange concoctions that resemble the snow egg on Masterchef. The service at these new places is brisk and professional and they don't rely on cutesy quirk to get customers in the door. Elephant Walk is still holding on to the old school style and their banana split and chocolate sundaes may be tasty but a little dusty. I love to recline in a straw booth and murmur sweet nothings over coffee as much as the next person but my sweet tooth is growing up a little and they can't just rely on teenagers to keep the place busy. it's time for this lovers lair to get with the program and update their service and menu a little. read more

Romance costs a little more these days. Elephant Walk opens at 8pm every night, so we poor customers must have to cover their no doubt monstrous rental costs. It is a dimly red light night cafe, with multiple booths enclosed very privately with a kind of bamboo/cane perspex. The seating is low and comfortable and the perfect place to venture for dessert after a romantic meal. The food and beverages sadly don't seem worth what you pay. As far as taste and quality goes, I would place it on par with Cibo. It's a lovely experience for sure, but not something I would rave about. I get the feeling that I could achieve similar effect if I turned all the lights off in my house, put a red lampshade over a light, and cooked a Sara Lee chocolate pudding and made some coffee. read more

After hearing so much about The Elephant Walk, I finally got a chance to go. Much like Spats, the Elephant Walk is a cosy dessert bar with secluded seating within an extremely dark setting. I found the seating a little awkward to be honest, and my eyes kept drifting parallel, where a couple kept making out. Not exactly a pleasant sight. With somewhat of a jungle theme, the best thing to do at the Elephant Walk (aside from eat) is to snuggle with your significant other or watch others snuggle with their significant other. Having said that, there is absolutely nothing wrong coming here with friends. Again like Spats, the food is nice, however not quite as good. I feel as though I need to visit the Elephant Walk more times to confirm my opinion on the grub. Definitely a fun setting and I love places like this, which are dark, mysterious and romantic. read more

You'd be forgiven if you didn't know this place existed. Tucked away in North Adelaide, Elephant Walk Cafe offers a delectible range of mouth watering desserts. The ambience is cosy and romantic, so it's a suitable place for that special occasion. Open 8pm-11pm, it's worth the treck down. The desserts range from sundaes, to waffles, to mousse, and cakes. Yeah, this place is a pretty damn good option for dessert. And I'm pretty sure that's the main theme of this place, somewhere to enjoy something sweet after your main meal. I thought what was on offer was reasonably attractive (I'm talking about the food here, not the opposite sex), but it was the hot chocolate that I enjoyed the most. The staff were pretty good, even though it was fairly busy. It's a nearly perfect place for a first date. And they do a decent coffee too. read more

I love this place! The dimly red lit is like stepping back in time. The quaint booths are a nice place to sit and catch up with friends or a romantic coffee date. We've arrived late a few times as a group and they've always been accommodating to try and find us a table. I've been to Elephant Walk before and received excellent speedy service and delicious food. Tonight we waited 25 minutes just to have our order taken and that was with getting a waitresses attention. Then another 35 minutes for our food to actually arrive. It seems they have also changed management as the dishes no longer match the descriptions on the menu and the waffles are different. A little disappointed in the service standards. Very nice staff but being told to please wait after trying to get their attention to order was not a nice touch at all. read more

This snug, dimly lit and warm Melbourne Street institution provides reasonably priced desserts in a slight-shabby but ever-so-charming environment. When it is busy it can be tough to score a spot, and some of said spots require a bit of yoga moves to ease into - but they are romantic and cosy - and make for a great place to have a chilled out sweet-fix. read more

This little gem is easy to miss, however it's one the best desert bars in North Adelaide. You're hit with this quirky atmosphere as soon as you enter. Then when you look around and see people canoodling, that really amplifies the quirk. It serves some seductive treats at the late hours of the night. Ordered two coffees, enjoying the atmosphere with a friend, all was nice... until we were asked if we wanted anything else. We said no "thank you" and then with an abrupt and relatively loud tone this guy whom I believe to be the owner says "well you can't stay here all night with a $10 purchase". Disrespectful. I didn't even get involved but when he realised I was not impressed he proceeds to ask me what I do for a living, presumably to explain to me about how a business works and how there are costs involved as though I wouldn't know. I don't need to be patronised. My friend and I looked at each other with shock and just paid and left. This guy essentially kicked us out of the place. I understand that they need to make money but we'd done nothing wrong, we'd gone out for a coffee and chat and not only where we told to leave but also in a disrespectful manner. Out of respect to his other customers (which is something the establishment clearly doesn't practice), I decided not to argue the point with him and not make a scene. But I could easily have. Then again why would I want to lower myself to that standard. Very disrespectful, completely unprofessional. Not recommended. read more

Awesome place for late night munchies. The setting is a little weird and dark but the food is awesome you must try the waffles.

After not going to the elephant walk for years. Was a little disappointed. The walk to the toilet was littered with balls dropped from the palms. It's almost skating and could have lead to a fall. The waffles were dry and almost biscuit like. Still had the atmosphere. Service was ok. Music still cheesy but was a little loud. read more
