Nestled in the quiet block of Grenfell St. just steps from Rymill Park this gem is quite abuzz with crepe making energy; there are two types gallettes (savory) and sweet to choose from. we chose gallettes to share, one La Traditionelle ($11.5: ham, egg sunny side up, and swiss cheese) and one Saint Malo ($14.5: ham, sautéed mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, basil, and olive oil). You can ask for any egg preparation, I chose scrambled. Opened for long hours each day they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The tiny bistro is a powerhouse of excellent, friendly customer service. It is adequately staffed with friendly counter help who care about your dining experience. The three times I have been there in the last month indicates consistent excellence and quick, though not hurried service. There are well prepared croissants (prepared in site daily) in addition to an authentic pain au chocolate. I plan to eat my way across their dessert case and will keep you posted on my progress. Always amazing! Been here a few times now and the crepes are to die for. I love the fig and walnut crepe and who doesnt love nutella with banana! Staff are very friendly and service is efficient. They are always accomodating of my daughter and I do recommend booking a table during busy periods as it can be difficult to get a seat. One thing you will find when you go there, apart from being transported straight to Paris, is the incredible range of crepe options, including both sweet and savoury. Well stroke my moustache and call me Francois. This french creperie doesn't hide away from its origins. French accents exist both in the interior design and the people, you don't have eggs in your crepe you have oeufs and the kitchen is as tiny as a boulengerie display cabinet. As a result the service is in French time, the French way and without fuss and pamper. Don't let it bother you, just don't be in a rush or expect to make friends. But realistically, we're all here for one thing. Those thin, perfectly cooked, simply designed gallettes (or crepes if you're sweet tooth got the better of you). The best news is that their gallettes are made using Buckwheat flour which is gluten, sugar, egg and milk free (perfect for those intolerant people out there). My favourite is the oeuf with goats cheese and mushrooms or the one with spinach. Le Carpe Diem means "seize the day" in latin but I am curious as to why this place doesn't have a french name like "le petite déjeuner crepey crepe" or something? Oooo la la! A little bit of Paris just landed in Grenfell Street... and the story is just so romantic. Star crossed lovers, he was from Australia and she was from France (which makes me love the shop even more), have moved to Australia and in the suitcase also came a cute as a button French patisserie. After owning a similar store in Paris they have opened up this brand new little French patisserie which cute French décor to match in the less busy side of the city and boy it's cute. French ciders, pastries galore and their specialty - crepes, I am in heaven! The wife is too cute with her French accent, and she isn't afraid to correct your pronunciation so maybe stick with pointing if you don't like being corrected! read more

Sacre bleu! This place is magnifique! Excuse my sub par French skills, but who can help but be inspired by the beautiful decor, gorgeous french speaking (and accents) of the girls behind the counter and delicious items on offer! My crepe was warm and light and was recommended by one of the staff members. With figs and walnuts and icecream, it was delicious. I also had a fresh juice, which came out in an old fashioned glass milk bottle. Staff were awesome, holding off on my friends crepe until I arrived to join her, answering all my questions, and being prompt with both service and organising/cooking the food and drinks. I felt so sorry for one lady at the counter, a croissant was given takeaway to a girl and she wasnt happy with the shape! To expect handmade croissants to look the same shape as each other is utterly ridiculous, but the staff member was polite and helpful, despite the customer clearly not understanding it was a perfectly fine croissant she had been given, despite it not looking like one from a mass produced company like Coles. Very happy to see such an authentic French Crêperie in the CBD of Adelaide. With delicious crêpes, good coffee, and super friendly staff, it's easy for me to give this place 5 stars. Whoever is in charge is doing things the right way and didn't takes the usual shortcuts many other French Crêperies away from France take. Amazing! So happy that Adelaide now has some brilliant French options including this delightful creperie / cafe on Grenfell St in the city centre - a huge difference from a few years ago. Le Carpe Diem offers a great selection of sweet crepes, savoury Gallettes made with buckwheat flour (all around $16) and a host of pastries and sweet treats. Everything on the menu and in the cake counter looked amazing. Staff were all so friendly and many are French and/or French speaking. My Gallette was incredible - blue cheese, walnuts, fig and honey with a light side salad. The perfect lunch and truly comparable to some of the better galettes I've eaten in France. A 'Oui' bit of Paris in the East End of Adelaide is Le Carpe Diem. A Crepe Café at the core serving both sweet Crepes but also Savoury Galettes savoury buckwheat crepes. This was my 1st time there, and I am impressed. The staff are delightful (and at least half are native French speakers. I totally enjoyed my lunch Galette, a crispy buckwheat crepe full of cheese, chicken and chorizo and adding to the decedance a rich cream topped Iced Coffee. And if you are not in the mood for a Crepe, there are other delights such as a selection of pastries and great Sundaes and Desserts Recommended for something just that little different. read more

A review is overdue, I have been coming here every month or so for the last year, for lunch on the weekend. They serve a range of French pastries, sweet crepes, and buckwheat savoury crepes called galetes. You can have small green salad added for just $2. The crepes are fresh, service is friendly, often French, and it feels like a small dose of Paris in Adelaide. It can get busy on Sunday for brunch, but we have always managed to get a table. There is seating upstairs, downstairs and outside. My husband always has the Saint Malo and a Rouge juice. I tend to end up with a traditionalle with salad added and a juice verte. Creatures of habit, at time I venture out to the one with Brie. Highly recommended, a bit away from the shopping crowds. read more

Frenchies unite! Le Carpe Diem is the place for you! I'll start with the atmosphere here, because I think it really sets Le Carpe Diem apart. This eatery is heavily French influenced, being, of course, a creperie. This is embodied so well, from their decor right through to the fact that you can order in French (but never fear, you don't have to!). I think they go far enough with the French theme without overdoing and potentially ruining it. I love the upstairs section of Le Carpe Diem, it's often quieter and tthe window seats are right next to a large, green, leafy tree - great in Spring through to Autumn! One downfall is that they aren't open Mondays, but hey, everyone needs a break! But of course, what about the food? The crepes here are top-notch, and you aren't emptying your life savings in order to eat them! The toppings are delicious and the meal leaves you feelig very Frenchy! I've eaten from both the savoury and sweet menus, and both are equally delicious. However they sometimes leave me still feeling a bit hungry! That's really the only reason I can't give this place five stars. The service here is great! The crepes can sometimes take a while to come out, but are worth it. And quite frankly, there's a lot of interesting wall hangings and decor to become distracted by that I often don't notice time pass! The waiters are always lovely, never had a problem! This is a place to try if you want a light lunch or a dinner with friends. I come here to practise my French, to have a delicious treat and to have a delightful dining experience, and it always delivers. What an absolute delight! From the magnificently broad range of sweet crepes and savoury buckwheat galettes to the impeccable service which is frequently delivered with a lilting, melodic French accent, Le Carpe Diem is a gem in Adelaide's East End. The range of options will make your head spin and they cater to a number of different dietary requirements and preferences. I often struggle to decide between the Ham, Egg and Gruyère Cheese Gallete and a number of the sweet options featuring everything from Nutella, banana and strawberry to ice creams, sorbets and coulis. Although I shouldn't, I sometimes go for one of each which is delicious but surprisingly filling. To round things out, the coffee is also excellent, the range of sweet pastries looks particularly inviting (although I haven't yet indulged - well there was this one time with a Cronut but I swear it was just one time and it meant nothing) and the atmosphere when sitting at a roadside table on a balmy morning is to die for. read more

Well...I may not be too handy with my knowledge of all things of the French persuasion however the team at Le Carpe Diem are all over it...I even begin to feel a little bit knowledgeable just by being in their presence! The beautiful décor transports any visitor far away from the streets of Adelaide - it's like going on a holiday just by stepping through the door, which truly makes a visit worthwhile. I ordered a traditional savoury gallette with ham, cheese and egg. It was not like anything I've ever had before - I usually go straight for the sweet choice and for some reason I wanted savoury...and it was gooooooood! I would highly recommend stopping by to enjoy the beautiful tastes and lovely surroundings - I can't wait to get back and try some of the sweet options! Caramel crepes anyone?! Amazing! When I walked in here and heard the distinct french accents of the workers behind the coffee machine I new I was handing over cash for that pear tart... It didnt dissapoint... reasonable size and impeccable depth of flavour and texture.. and well the coffee was perfect.. I felt like I was in Montreal.. the atmosphere in the caffe is great too cool decor and well the French accent certainly does add that genuineness that no $300 000 fit out can deliver.. Luckily I booked ahead for Sunday brunch as it was packed but that's always a great sign and I was not disappointed! My savoury crepe was delicious and the Le Orange fresh juice was beautiful, I could have drank litres of it! My only criticism would be that although I booked stating I have a pram, my reserved table was inside however there is no room for prams so we had to sit outside or leave the pram outside and sit inside. Luckily it was a nice day although does get a bit chilly as constantly in the shade of the buildings. Still searching for a dessert place we tried this French creperie. A combination of Authentic cooking methods, skill and chic French waitresses made for the tastiest thinnest crepes. Served with lashings of cream and various fruity or chocolaty toppings they are not for the faint hearted. Sat night and it felt very French with a guitarist belting out chansons. The Belgium chocolate was good and creamy but I prefer darker stronger stuff. Overall lots of fun and attentive service. They also have a selection of patisserie on offer which was reported delicious by my fellow diners. But the search for a comprehensive dessert place continues! read more

What a pleasant surprise. Adelaide has many nice coffee shops, but most are similar and none could be as French to be called a cafe until I came across this gem today. All these passionate ladies with luscious French accents ready to bestow the best of France upon one. I ordered a flat white and was gently admonished for choosing something so Australian. This wonderfully quaint creperie is the perfect place for a quiet meal or snack, and the coffee is very good too! Inside is beautifully decorated in a French style and outside is shaded by trees. Over priced, the "galette" was overcooked and worst service ever. I went on a Sunday, it was very busy and it looked like the owner was screaming on her staff and was rude to them and to her customers. I still decided to order something for my friend and myself and what a disappointment! It was overcooked and not that much filling at all. I have been to France a few times and love galettes and crepes but that was not what I expected. Very poor quality and very disappointing! After my experience, I actually told a few people who have been there and they told me exactly the same thing so that place does not have a really good reputation and now I know why!!!
